Title: Why does bitcointalk.org come under US jurisdiction ?
Post by: Mbitr on May 26, 2020, 12:07:58 PM
Whilst looking through the More tab , I noticed this section on “ About privacy “

https://bitcointalk.org/privacy.php

I was just wondering why bitcointalk.org came under US jurisdiction ? More a query than anything else !

This is the quote -“Bitcointalk.org is in US jurisdiction, and is subject to US subpoenas, wiretap orders, preservation orders (which would negate the above retention rules), and similar. Furthermore, our service providers could also be subject to similar orders without our knowledge.“

TIA

My guess is due to bitcointalk hosting, and which I think is namecheap(saw this in previous threads of theymos) or eNom(saw it on whois.net) both are US-based hosting provider which means the presence of bitcointalk is also under the jurisdiction of US law.

This part:

"Furthermore, our service providers could also be subject to similar orders without our knowledge."

is probably related to this =>  Moving to Cloudflare (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2485318.0)

This is what I’m thinking. I can’t think of any other reason tbh !

Slightly confused ? So does this mean , that because theymos is a US citizen and is the administrator, bitcointalk.org ergo comes under US jurisdiction?
Sorry , no good at legal stuff  :)
