Title: Are there still size limits on image posting
Post by: Jessica Ruder on May 28, 2020, 01:54:16 AM
Is there still a size limit to announcement images? I read it was 2.5 mb per image but is that still true?

Newbies can post imgs by the code

Code:

* where the link of img
[/img]

but it won't be visible (link only) instead of upgrading your member-ship or buy cooper member for 0.0019 BTC only!
image will be visible once you have paid membership even if it was published before that.

For newbies, you cannot post images until you can get the rank of Jr Member instead you can paste the BBCode here or use the code open and close tag.

You can visit our Guideline on posting images (with size adjustments), hyperlinks (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3974517.msg37748469#msg37748469)

Of course, newbies can not show hyperlinks and images till the time they rank up to Junior members (if satisty activity requirements).

According to this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1330653.msg13578831#msg13578831), the maximum file size is 2.5MB
the size cant be more than 2.5 mb and the link shouldnt redirect more than once

If you want to create an avatar (For Full Member and up) the file size is 120px wide, 80px tall and 100kb file size.

Yes you are right. 2.5mb is the maximum size for image in order your post to be display on forum. I think its also applicable even to announcement images.

Check images on the announcement pages. Usually it is lower than 2.5mb, even its dimensions has bigger display.

use this code to change the dimension of your image.
Code:
[img width=??? height=???]image direct link[/img]

Avail this so you can post even with your rank Buy a copper membership (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote)

I haven't seen this comment from theymos before, but I think the size limit is actually 2MB. I've tried a few times with different sizes and what I found was that everything under 2MB goes good.

1.5 does really suck, 2.5 would be perfect

OK, I increased it to 2.5.

Eitherway man the proxy thing is annoying...  :-\

The referenced image is indeed over 2MB, but under 2,5MB, and does not display nowadays (I figure it did back in 2013) because it lacks the https (the image is http).

I just added the "s" to the URL and voilà:

Awesome, so I could have a super long image and as long as the file size is small enough, it will show?

I did read a thread not that long ago which had a piece of code to prevent images from being displayed more than a specified lenght / size.

Are you intending to start an ICO or Casino thread ??  They are about the only ones that insist on long images (all the best scamming ICO's do it with super long images of text instead of actual text)

(but you're not the OP @Jessica Ruder)

Size is what matters. If you want to make one of those big infographies that take a whole page, just cut it in multiple images and put them together in the same thread.

Sure why not, it's your own thread anways. You can do whatever size you want as long as it is important and relevant with the topic. However there are few members (mostly the mobile users) that complaint due to large pictures. They're having a hard time zooming in and zooming out the page, they also hate it because it makes their phone lag. Resizing an image is not a thing you ought to do, but it can be a sign of being considerate to others :). It's up to you.
