Title: Looking for somebody to partner with me on a website/app project
Post by: unsigned_long_long on June 01, 2020, 04:04:58 AM
I have an idea for a project related to storing data on the BTC blockchain and possibly other blockchains.

I've bought a domain name and I'm looking for somebody to work with on it.

PM me if interested

So just to clarify, you aren't looking to pay for a developer, you're looking for a 100% equity based deal, correct?

Although it is possible to store data (besides the usual Tx-data) on the BTC blockchain, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Just sayin'.

You can save a certain amount of text data in the blockchain, even though it's not cheap. For example, a hash of a file that is saved externally. I have recently used free service OriginStamp (https://originstamp.com/) what is doing exactly this.

@thread creator: You should roughly describe how the project and the storage will look like, to get more attention from serious deveopers.

Yes it would be.

The idea is to make a service similar to Proof of Existence (http://proofofexistence.com) or Origin Stamp (http://originstamp.com) where you can store file hashes, but you can also store entire files or simple messages, so in that way it would be similar to Crypto Grafitti (http://cryptografitti.info).

It would basically do what all these sites do in one service.

Edit: I think the tricky thing about launching such a site is what to do if people decide to put illegal or stolen material on the blockchian. How do you "cover your ass" in such situations ?

To be honest, the idea is not new. As you and me already mentioned, OriginStamp is such a service. But there is also one for IOTA, called IOTAStamp.co (https://iotastamp.co/) what does the same and which is completely free. I already used it from time to time. There may be more for other crypto currencies already. How would you like your service to differ from these?

I don't think you read my last post fully. This would not be just a time stamping service, it would be a service where you can store a whole  file on the blockchain in plaintext such as a jpg or pdf or whatever, then the file is stored forever. So the site would allow you to put files on the blockchain and view them.

In short it allows arbitrary data to be stored, in the most common type of "package" - a file.

The file is not "stored forever".  Only until the last "miner" on the blockchain.

The benefit of the blockchain is the file is stored in multiple places and cannot be taken down.

Do the same thing by saving a file on a cloud service.  Much less bandwidth and you don't need to worry about it being taken down...  unless it is illegal, which is all your service would be good for.  :/

If I want to post my annual investor's share report, I don't need your system.  If I want to post a naked picture of my ex, I do.  How long do you think people will use their bandwidth to transfer garbage?

What happens if somebody stores porn on the blockchain?

The cost of someone doing that would be too much. Have you stopped to think why other services only store text? And why it costs so much to even store text on some blockchain? Imagine the price for storing the file, and its not at all useful  in any way.
