I really don't suggest buying any cryptocurrency besides bitcoin, but you do you.

1. Buy some bitcoin in your preferred exchange(Kraken[1], Gemini[2], etc). If you don't want fees, I'm afraid your only choice is to do it peer-to-peer through platforms like Bisq[3] and Hodl Hodl[4], which can be slightly harder to use.

Each person here has different preferences when talking about exchanges, as people here live in different countries.

2. Send over the BTC to exchanges such as Binance[5], and exchange your BTC for whatever altcoin you want.

3. Withdraw the coins, preferably to a non-custodial wallet[5].

I have been trying to find a good service/bitcoin wallet to buy cryptocurrencies but haven't been able to find any.

HEllo and welcome to the forum and to bitcoin community.

I suggest that you take some time to read more about bitcoin.
There are 2 main things you need to choose:

1 - a good wallet to store your bitcoins

2 - a good exchange to buy bitcoins and immediately move them to your wallet. The most risky part is choosing and good exchange, because most of the scams are exchange related.

You won't be buying any bitcoin through your wallet. Sometimes you can do that in wallets like coinbase, but that's not recommended.

I suggest that you download Electrum.org wallet and use the desktop version.

For exchanges, I suggest that you look for the most famous ones, such as Kraken, Coinbase, Bitstamp, Binance, etc.

Ledger allows you to buy cryptocurrencies through their Ledger Live. The coins will be directly sent to your hardware wallet. That is kind of safe. For the fees, they charge 4.5% for credit card and only 1.7% for bank transfers.[1]

If you want to buy without paying any fee, try opening a Coinbase account and make a fiat deposit. They don't charge you for that. With a Coinbase account, you will also have an access to GDAX, their sister company. You need to move your funds from Coinbase to GDAX. Do the purchasing there for free.[1] I took this from the article I linked below, published several months ago. Things could have changed since then. Never tested it myself.

Finally, you may also want to drop by BestChange.[3] You can buy from there from a wide array of options. You can also compare their prices.

Please do your own research. Good luck!

Hi.

I have been trying to find a good service/bitcoin wallet to buy cryptocurrencies but haven't been able to find any. They either don't have the coins that I want to buy or the app doesn't work in my region (United States, New York) or their fees are too high or the app just isn't any good.

Can anyone recommend some good options for how I can buy cryptocurrencies? What are people here at this forum using?

It's been taking too long trying to find one that works well enough to use. I just want to start buying coins already.

hello, there are a lot of ways to buy bitcoins, as previously said by other users you can use the various exchanges that give the possibility to buy btc directly using fiat currency (€, $, ¥, £) such as Kraken or Coinbase , or use the Localsbitcoin platform where you can buy btc from private sellers but to be a little careful about scams. Also if you don't want to use your personal funds you can use Coinbase earn to earn some altcoins to exchange in case of btc. I hope I was helpful

If Binance support United states I will suggest you use it, it is most trusted and you have a chance to buy directly using your card, then look for a more secure desktop wallet or hardware wallet to store your btc, and about the fee, you don't worry much about it since you are buying to hold long term i believe.  Goodluck.

Just found out what that's called. That's what's called a spread fee. Too many fees if you ask me. There shouldn't be any.

Then you are not ready to be here, like it or not this is how they operate,  you can keep digging and looking for where to buy cheap without fees, I just hope you don't fall in the hands of scammers  ;D they will be happy to receive you.

Another thing I noticed is that prices for cryptocurrencies are different between services. For example the price for bitcoin will be more expensive on Coinbase then it is on Kraken. Robinhood is the cheapest and seems to be the only one with the correct market prices.

They're different business entities and so it is not unusual for them to charge different fees.

Quote
Its stuff like this that gives crypto a bad name.

Possibly to some. However, Bitcoin =/= Coinbase, Bitcoin =/= Kraken, Bitcoin =/= Robinhood, and so on.

These are third parties buying and selling BTC and altcoins and setting up exchange platforms for cryptocurrencies but have nothing to do with Bitcoin itself. Moreover, this impression is almost exclusive only among people who have not yet truly understood Bitcoin.

If you prefer, you may use this board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0) on this forum to purchase Bitcoin 1:1 ($1 is to $1 in BTC).

Prefer to use escrow. And as always, DYOR.

You might try some recommendations from other members here especially for international exchanges using your credit card, pay pall or bank accounts. But you can also try to search some of the local exchange that you have in your country, though you might need to conduct KYC procedures, it is also beneficial especially if you want to sell bitcoins back to fiats if you need money. Maybe you could provide your country for us to further help you search available exchanges.

If you are beginner in crypto then likely you will have to buy crypto with credit/debit card or with native currency. Probably you wouldn't find your expected crypto-currency to buy with credit card, so you have to start with bitcoin then you may exchange it from any reputed exchange. I will prefer use Binance to buy crypto with card then convert your bitcoin to another crypto-currency as you want if you really need it. Of course you will have to verify your account with KYC for that. Otherwise you may take a look on forum Currency Exchange (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0) section, perhaps you would found your expected crypto-currency. You may post there what you need exactly, so perhaps you will found someone from your own country. Before make any deal use forum escrow service to avoid scammers.

Mycelium wallet allows you to buy Bitcoin using credit card and through it's local Market place. It is one of the oldest and most trusted mobile wallet. It is available for both Android and iOS and you can download it for free. It is very easy to install and setup. You can read this article to know how to set up and install the Mycelium wallet (https://cointikka.com/mycelium-wallet/).

You do not need KYC to buy Bitcoin if you use it's local marketplace

I think there are some bitcoin machines located at the United States and you can buy bitcoins or other cryptocurrency there. You can also exchange or convert your dollars into cryptocurrency if you want.
There are so many ways on how you will be able to buy or obtain bitcoin, there are a lot of softwares or online exchangers that allows you to buy bitcoins and other cryptocurrency from them.

Is the coin that you are willing to buy already listed on the coin trackers? You can track the exchanges available over there.
However, you may also lead to some big exchanges or markets that sell the crypto available in the US.

1. Coinbase Pro
You can transfer your money into the account through bank transfer, bank wire, or SEPA. The fee is quite low enough for the transaction and it also offers certain good prices. (https://buybitcoinww.co/Coinbase_Cryptocurrency)

2. LocalBitcoins
This also offers low fees, easy, fast, and also private enough. However, you must be careful of the scams. follow only the rules and guidance by the LocalBitcoins. (https://buybitcoinww.co/local_bitcoins)

3. Kraken
Kraken also offers low fees. doesn't it?
Quote
PROS
Very low 0.25% taker fee, falling to 0.1% with sufficient trading volume
Very low maker fee, falling to 0% with sufficient trading volume
Highly-rated for security and data protection
But you need ID verification.

Well, aside from them, most exchanges have average fees.

You can read more on https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/united-states/#:~:text=Coinbase%20is%20probably%20the%20fastest,using%20a%20connected%20bank%20account.

Fees are inevitable. Some are cheaper than others but it doesn't make much difference.  If you want to invest you can't worry about that. It's better than nothing at all.

I recently came across something called Jaxx. I haven't checked it out yet but it looks like it could be a good one. It's available in the app store. It offers many coins for sale and many wallets.

I wish there was one place where you can buy any and every cryptocurrency and it would be super easy and fast.
Can you access localbitcoin? If yes, you can try to search your local bitcoin sellers, and after you found, you can arrange an appointment with him to meet in one place, and you can make a deal with him. Or you can ask him to send the money to him before he sends the bitcoin amount. Another method is you can find local sellers from your city. Usually, this seller is available on facebook's group, so you can directly send a message to him/her. That is what I did if I want to buy bitcoin.

Jaxx Liberty? You need to use a credit card, which I am not recommending because that is too risky. It's better to find the local sellers from your city, so you can ask him directly everything you want to know.

There is no single universal way to purchase, options often depend on the regions or the needs of the buyer. Of course, in most cases you will have to pay a fee, otherwise you need to look for a person who will directly exchange the cryptocurrency for other money.

These three options will enable you to purchase, store, trade and make profits. Coinbase, Electrum, Binance

Coinbase is your first choice if you want to buy Bitcoin and then you can use Binance to carry out trading operations or Electrum wallet if you want to keep your currencies for a long time and then return coins + profits to Coinbase and withdraw it as profits in your bank account.

it is the basic trading loop and you will add more when have more information.

Isn't Localbitcoin just for Bitcoin and Ethereum? I can just buy those easily on Robinhood. I'm looking for more hard to find stuff.
No matter if you could only buy bitcoin and ethereum because if you have bitcoin, you can send the bitcoin to many exchanges, so you can use it to trade with USDT or altcoin and try to make a profit. The most important thing is that you can have bitcoin or ethereum without a problem, and the next thing will be up to you. You can hold your bitcoin in the other wallet if you don't want to trade.

If you do not get information that is not clear from your question, you should follow the forum from your country. maybe there will be more special questions and adapted to the situation in your own country.
maybe if it's not on the forum then you will receive general information, which is always done by all crypto followers.

I cannot provide information that might help you in more detail because the circumstances in your country may not be clearly known to me.
there are many exchangers available and good enough for you to be able to transact, but if it suits you, of course you decide. You can search here: https://coinmarketcap.com

This is what we called in-person cash trading, the method where you can buy/sell cryptocurrency in person. But did you know that even this is also a very high potential of risk transaction? There is a lot of news with regard to this transaction like people getting robbed and scammed after having a transaction in public places or after having a meetup. You need to be more precautions on this and protect your self especially if you are in the big transaction. Remember those valuable assets are very prone to theft.

I suggest buying/selling Bitcoin on a trusted and reliable third party exchange platform or those who have P2P service in any crypto exchange or much better ATM machine.

The best way to buy cryptocurrency is through local exchanges, so you can buy bitcoin in your country's currency. Since you live in
the United States you can buy through Coinbase, Bittrex and Kraken. The three exchanges are quite popular and reliable, for the
transaction fee is also not too expensive.

There are many options that you can do and are not limited of course, as the colleague above informs is part of what you can do. all you need now is whether you understand what you are going to do. of course it is better to learn first if you do not understand clearly so it is not wrong to determine what is appropriate and you can do with your money when you have to buy coins.

there can be analyzed carefully before stepping, so that no regrets occur in the future. learning to understand is absolutely essential before proceeding further.
You can search and study and adapted to the desired needs, you can use references;

Some BTC ATMs allow you to buy a few other cryptos, I do know there are such "BTMs" in NYC and in lots of cities around the USA.  Fees are high!  Typically BTM fees are 7% - 15%, some higher.  BTMs want (at a minimum) your cellphone number and a name, their limits vary.

*   *   *

Just today I tried out a service from LibertyX, who now offers a "buy BTC for cash" at CVS and 7-Eleven stores.  I paid a total fee of some 1.9%, CVS charged me $4.95 while LibertyX charged me 0% fee (they are running a special until July 31).

LOTS of KYC, takes some time to wade through.  Details of my experience:

First and foremost, please do not buy cryptocurrencies without having any knowledge or not really having any underlining reasons why you are buying. Considering your post, I can see you are very new to the crypto space. I will suggest you take some time to gain enough knowledge about the entire crypto space before deciding to buy any cryptocurrency. That might save you a lot from loosing your money.  You might get scammed if you don't have enough knowledge in this crypto space.

I don't usually support KYC sites KYC scams most sites The best advice for buying cryptocurrency is to use binance kucoin or Bittrex. This is a great place to buy crypto and there is no need to look for alternative sites that support each country. Fees are much lower here and most people on the forum use binance You can use a coin base in case of using a bitcoin wallet Bitcoin is much safer to keep.

I am using P2P exchanges, cause you don't need KYC which is good for privacy and safer for you, cause no one can hack to servers and stole your ID. Here are higher fees from people, but it is really fast and you can get your crypto almost instantly.

If you are interested in safe crypto-fiat exchanges you can use Coinbase, but it has extremely huge fees, even much bigger than a P2P.

There are a lot of ways on how to buy Cryptocurrency. First, there must be some applications that are developed within the country that is able to buy Bitcoin and convert it into a few Cryptocurrency. Second, you can learn about exchanges and practice "buying and selling". Buying Cryptocurrency if you are new is not the best move based in my point of view. We must first see that how would some parts of the Cryptocurrency industry really works and gain knowledge on that part.

Well, i use a bank product called Blackcatcard to make crypto-fiat exchanges. The exchange rates you can see in the app as they are changing online but always seems ok for me. the reason i use this method is that  i have 2 products in one: prepaid debit card + hot crypto wallet, not to create more and more accounts for different platforms.

Indeed. Some countries have their crypto wallet that they developed, so their people could easily buy Cryptocurrency. Like here in the Philippines, we have our bitcoin wallet called Coins.ph, which we could buy bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through remittances services and banks. So if your country has its crypto wallet, it will be easier for you to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.

Why don't you recommend Binance as a recommended exchange. Binance is even now a popular exchange and with the addition of a P2P platform that makes it easy for binance users to buy and sell Bitcoin using FIAT and connect with your bank account.

In addition there are many other ways to make cryptocurrency purchases. just how you choose it and suits you. KYC is not always bad, depending on how we choose a place that is really recommended. Do not do KYC on an exchange full of scammers and not recommended.

You forgot to include in your suggestion that Binance withdrawal should not exclude over 2 Bitcoin per day. The rest, you must be passed the KYC they implemented. There are various ways how to purchase Bitcoin without submitting KYC as your legal documents on the exchange.

I had read a different thread that has an error transaction here in Bitcointalk. As a newbie buyer, you should know how it works and the safe wallet where you will store your Bitcoin safely. Because usually, I have heard newbies are prone to hack and scams.

I think everyone should learn a lot about this before investing in cryptocurrency. The best way to buy cryptocurrency is to buy from a good exchange. For this you can use trusted exchanges like Coinbase, Beatrex, Binance  and Kucoin. A good wallet is needed to store purchased currencies;  For which you can download the Electrum.org wallet and use the desktop version.

To be able to start buying cryptocurrency, of course you have to find a trusted and popular platform. So we are safe to make transactions,
I have read several articles before that indeed provide the best input exchanges that can be used to buy cryptocurrency. There are several
popular exchanges used by citizens of the United States to buy cryptocurrency, such as Binance, Kraken, Bittrex and Poloniex.

It's been taking too long trying to find one that works well enough to use. I just want to start buying coins already.

If i understand perfectly what you really want, you are looking for cheaper and secure way to buy crypto coins as well as a good wallet to store them. Considering the fact that you are in US and most of the platform doesn't have the jurisdictions to operate in the US, i don't think you much of an option but I'll suggest you stick with Binance platform as they have a well secure wallet (trust wallet)  and they have an exchange dedicated for the citizens of US (Binance US)

The fact that you resides in the US really makes your option a little because a lot of exchanges dosen't support users from US due to US strict rules. However, i think there are quite a number of exchanges that work in US, a good example is the BINANCE US which seems to be designed for only people over there and couoled with the fact that binance is the most trusted exchange in this space, i think you should go for it

Have you tried to use PayPal already? I have read some news that PayPal is available to buy cryptocurrencies to 202 countries, I hope your country is included because I believe not all country have their own local exchange.

I would not suggest using Paypal because Paypal is one of the most strict payment processors that we should be careful about making a transaction. I think he can search for a local seller in his city, so I am sure he will not have a problem. Besides that, Paypal needs more things to prepare before Paypal can integrate their system to accept cryptocurrency.

Great news. I've finally found a way to buy cryptocurrencies and its super fast, easy and cheap. This will even work if you live somewhere that does not allow people to purchase cryptocurrencies (for example, United States, especially the state of New York).

All you have to do is buy some Ethereum and put it in a crypto wallet (for example, Coinbase Wallet). Then, you have to go to a website like Uniswap.org, SimpleSwap.io, or KyberSwap.com and connect your wallet or enter your wallet address. Then you can conduct an exchange. That's it.

I did my transactions with Ethereum but it will also work with Bitcoin or other cryptos.

*AND* don't ever use a credit card to purchase cryptocurrencies because your credit card company will consider it to be a cash advance and will charge interest EVERYDAY!

Now the challenge becomes how does someone sell their digital assets? Anyone care to make a suggestion?
I'm glad you found a way to buy crypto and made a good choice. I also like to buy at Uniswap it is inexpensive and has a good collection of crypto. Swap is convenient when you are looking to buy a coin fast.
I like Atomic Wallet because it also has swap of some coins.
Favorite exchanges: Binance, KuCoin, Hotbit, CoinEx, the exchange you choose will depend on where the coins you want to sell are listed.
