Title: Electrum 4.0 got released
Post by: NeuroticFish on July 03, 2020, 05:45:16 PM
Electrum 4.0. is finally released. It supports PSBT, Lightning, Watchtowers, Submarine swaps. Please take time to read the release notes before you enable Lightning. Thanks to all contributors! https://electrum.org/#download

The only thing I can add is: finally! Great job!

Edit 2020-07-11: There's something to add now, there's a newer version in town, 4.0.2: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5260793

Great! Looks like I'm going to update my wallet then!

See if I have more success on this lightning release than the 2nd alpha one ;D...

Just downloaded the latest one but it's not Electrum 4.0 it's Electrum 4.0.1.

I tried it and it seems Kaspersky doesn't want it and quarantined the exe file.

Anyway, I disable it and excluded it on my AV it's working fine on my windows 7 32bit without any issue.

But the only problem is I can't find where to enable manual fee?

It's in the advanced transaction preview (bottom part) if you click "Advanced" after clicking "Send".
Or just enable "Advance preview" in the 'Tools->Preferences->Transactions tab' so it'll automatically open in every sending attempt.

Very excited to have the new version installed in my system however it seems something is not working for me or I can't find where to tap it.

1. When I try spending coin by right clicking on an address it says:

Screenshot from two wallets.

2. How do I enable Lightning payment?

Cheers,

Yes, it's Version Electrum 4.0.1

Wait! This is my first time updating my electrum wallet. I am using Electrum only to serve as an interface to access my bitcoin wallet using my Ledger Nano S.

Do I need to delete the entire application and then verify and re-install the newest version? Will the wallet file be deleted?

Maybe deleting the entire application is not necessary (although I deleted the entire older version having the backup of my wallet files) but always make sure you verify your new download before installing it.

That seems to be working as intended, the inputs that you've chosen will be displayed in the "advanced preview" if you want to double check.

"Wallet->Information->enable", your wallet should be Native Segwit for it to appear.

Yes, then no.

I'm not sure that's safe, Windows 7 stopped receiving updates for security bugs several months ago. Just fyi

Most users say that they usually uninstall the older version before they install a newer one. But when I installed 3.3.8 I didn't delete the old version. It's an update and it  will replace all your files.

Verifying the signatures for the 4.0.1 version is required, yes.
Your wallet file will not be deleted. You should have a copy of it either way.

whenever there is a major update like this (eg. from version 1.x.x to 2.x.x to 3.x.x to 4.x.x) it is more important to create a backup of your wallet file(s) before upgrading to the new version.
although i don't see that many changes in code that involves handling the wallet, it is best to have that backup. not to mention that you should already have a hard copy of your seed phrase stored somewhere for safety.

Not sure if I was able to explain my issue at the first place.

I right click on an address, then click Spend from and it gives me a message like below:

Clicking reset does not change anything. And it seems I can not spend my coins.

Here is my preference:

Any suggestion why I am seeing this information and not letting me to spend my coins?

After selecting the output you want to use, don't click on reset. just go back to the "Send" tab and enter the receiving address and the amount (as usual).
Then Electrum will spend only from the address/addresses you selected.
Clicking reset will simply deselect the outpits you chose allowing you to start over.a

It does let you spend. The only difference is in UI: you are not sent directly to Send tab, you have to go by yourself and it doesn't show the input(s) there, but it will spend from the address you wanted.
Since you have advanced view, that will be visible (much) later and you can check the correctness.
So all is good, although a bit strange for me too.

Advice: play a little on testnet  ;)

That info is about the number of UTXO from the selected coins/addresses where you want to spend from.
I don't get why you can't spend your coins, is "Send" tab missing in your client?

As an addition to your previous question about lightning...
You also have to enable "Channels" tab (View->Show channels) and open a new channel.
You need to at least have 0.002BTC plus fee to open a "single-funded channel", and with that you can now send lightning payments (but not receive if you haven't sent any LN funds yet).

I've found my wallet using this redirectory
Go to \Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Electrum (or %APPDATA%\Electrum)

So, I need to encrypt my wallet files using Kleopatra and store it in a USB stick? I have my seed phrase written on a piece of paper and is stored somewhere safe.

that's the default location where the wallet files are stored. also clicking Open from menu bar can bring up the location. there is also a Save copy option under File which can be used.

as for encryption, your Electrum client can already encrypt the wallet files. from menu: Wallet > Password.
creating a backup of wallet file would retain any labels you had or any commands you used in console tab otherwise having the seed phrase is more than enough.

But you are using Electrum only as user interface (based on your previous post), so I see no point to save any of Electrum files. Your seed is created on Ledger, and if you delete all Electrum files and install new version, then you will just need to create name of your wallets when connect Ledger first time with Electrum (for example Legacy_wallet, Nativebc1_wallet).

Does anyone have feedback on how the new Electrum version works with the Ledger Nano S/X, are there any problems?

Yes, it works fine with my Nano X. Both beta versions had a problem where this warning (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5222986.msg54691383#msg54691383) was displayed. Apparently, it was fixed in the final release.

By they way, if you still haven't tested the Lightning Network support and don't know what to start with, visit a short walkthrough (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5259973.msg54732922#msg54732922) which I posted yesterday.

I was missing this. My dull mind did not realize that to check from the tab. Before it used to take to the window once you click Spend From.

I do not get that too :-P
My poor observation.

After updated electrum 4.0 on android I had some strange when opening, I got a password on the screen.

I had to write same PIN number on password box to get in the wallet.

https://i.postimg.cc/Bb59BsfY/photo6069053406934313558.jpg

Also made some testing create a new wallet, on the password box, I can create a new password (number, symbol and letter).

Seems PIN number set was gone on new electrum wallet.

That's actually better than an easy to bruteforce 6-digit pin.
It's more of an upgrade, but if you like, you could still set numbers (for users prefer PIN/fast access).
