I found this on Medium with several thousand clapps, they also made na fake screenshot of Elon Musk Twitter account for free bitcoin giveaway. I did a search on the real twitter account and it turned out to be a scam. Do not fall for this cheap scam, bottomline, they will ask you to send them some of your bitcoin or ethereum for them to credit you the bitcoin. Scammers on rampage. I wonder why Medium has not taken down the false article.

Oh, there is a new platform they are using which is the Medium. Because before I only see those scam giveaways on twitter.
Their actions on twitter were replying to tweets of Elon Musk or other famous crypto twitter accounts, and also it got lot of liked from other twitter users, for sure it also a bot.
Those kinds of tweets on twitter or replying to some tweets is for sure a bot.

If we are browsing about the scam using Elon Musk's name, there will be many sources that report the scam and fake giveaway.
Moreover, this kind of scam was since around October 2018, with the almost same ways.
https://www.coindesk.com/twitter-let-a-fake-elon-musk-account-promote-a-crypto-scam

And now it is there again.
One of them can be found here:
https://news.bitcoin.com/elon-musk-bitcoin-giveaway-scam-millions-dollars-btc/

Be careful about this kind of similar scam. What you need to watch out when participating in a giveaway is:
1. Never only believe in one source, you must do your own research to the official sites, social media, and also compare to the other legitimate sources.
2. Never easily tempted by big giveaway rewards, so that you aside the logic to analyze it and just follow the other friends.
3. be careful if you must send ETH/BTC first to unlock the rewards, it may be suspicious and need to watch out, better to check, and recheck again.
4. Never only tempted by the big name, you must know which one is legit and scam.
5. Last, never be greedy because greedy may lead you to play or do without logic analysis and consideration.

Probably one of the oldest scams in the book in the cryptocurrency markets. Originally being used on Twitter, this is pretty much the same scam, just in a different platform. Don't expect this scam to go away any time soon as it looks like it's been effective.

You know this is fake because it says he is giving away BTC/ETH.
Everybody knows he only deals in doge. :D
He was the CEO for a day. ;D

Seriously though, these giveaways are on youtube showing even Bezos giving away cryptocurrency.
BUt know they have a new medium to try and get people to give them their funds. ::)

Hard to protect people against themselves..

I just don't get how people can fall for these scams..after so many warnings, and the obvious shadiness of having to pay to receive funds.

Twitter and medium have very fast reflexes when it comes to people's feelings. They ban or quarantine users over racism and harassment in an instant. Even after a single report.

But somehow accounts getting thousands of botted likes for obvious ploys to part users from their funds can remain up enough time for the scam to actually get enough attention and be spread to a wide audience. You have to wonder, with something so obvious, why aren't twitter doing more to address such incidents?

Where is the link though? And just what others have said, Elon Musk has been used by scammers to make this fake BTC/ETH giveaway. But it's good that the community is actively reporting this kind of stuff around so that newbies won't fall for this trick.

@grolsch - noobs fall for this trick because of their greed and think that they can make free money here.

That is a wonderful thing about crypto community, I like that they watch out for each other when scammers are rife, if you are to encounter this kind of give away scam then you should consider this questions.

Why would Elon Musk give back to the community that will only affect a few select individual?
What are the comments that are present in the giveaway (It is important to check the online chats because they give clue)?

Remember that there is no quick buck in cryptocurrency so you better use your common sense and judgment when someone is offering you something that is too good to be true which sometimes is.

Claps can be faked too. This is a common scam method on twitter and now scammers have choosen medium to be more good looking since people know about twitter scam this day.

I wonder why Medium has not taken down the false article.
Did someone report? If not, how will they know. Also, what about their content policy? If possible, report the post and see what medium do.
Please move this Beginners and Help. Most newbies visit that section most often.

This guy was earlier promoting this same SCAM GIVEAWAY on YouTube. Since the channel got deleted as it was reported by the community members after a topic was created earlier here, they have now shifted to a microblogging platform like Medium.

The next destination would be other blogging platforms that allow cryptocurrency-related articles after this article gets deleted from Medium.

BEWARE ALL GIVEAWAYS ARE SCAM, PLEASE AVOID THEM, NOTHING IS FREE.

I am pretty sure that is not published on Medium. Scammers created a similar looking page with fake claps and comments just to fool others. I have seen this kind of giveaway before and even reported once [WARNING][SCAM] Fake Tesla Model S giveaway from "Elon Musk" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5249530.0). Look at this page https://web.archive.org/web/20200519073719/https://procryptovest.com/

Doesn't it look like an article published on Medium? However, it is not.

This is not new most of the scam is using the name of the very popular person like the name of Elon musk today he becomes trending because of the rocket he created and wanted to lunch and this is the time to use his name as supporting the use of the bitcoin and ethereum. Also, there is no reason why they make a giveaway with the use of the bitcoin because the people do not know and need this time one of their goals is to make survival on this pandemic outbreak still we are heading towards to make busted those people doing this kind of scam because we want to safe all of the people and their money to those person does not give a good intention.

Some of the people are making giveaway with the YouTube platform and some of them are needed to make deposit to become participant on this give away and we want to notify those newbies or people that this is absolutely a scam.

You have to say beware of 10000 other fake scams and giveaways. Why do people still want to join all these giveaways even if they are true anyway? You waste your days hunting and then signing up and then most likely, you get nothing. I would rather BUY a lottery ticket,,, at least this way I do not have to waste my time and I can get paid if I hit.

This is the true fact that some of the people actually wait for the giveaway which is free and think that it will help them to make free money forgetting that in today's time nothing is actually free or very few would be genuine and rest all will be fake. So personally, I think instead of wasting so much time on such things better to work on something else unless some people do have free time only in lockdown so they may participate in such things.

They are not using medium.
They have made a fake page similar to medium to fool people.
Look at the following web page I just found.

Edit:
There are some medium pages too.

Following pages have already been suspended.

I've been seeing this Elon Musk scam on youtube the past few days or so. They were using another celebrity as well but I can't recall who it was right now, but I was surprised youtube was pushing these ads. They weren't on the actual videos themselves but the image adverts to the right of the video. Don't they have people vetting these before they go up? They should be liable if people start to lose money on them as they're essentially promoting scams.

Scamming is not new with this crypto world, it always happens because of money, there are many ways of them to do the scamming, some people use the fake website or those clone websites which is really look alike an original website, so you should know how to differentiate, both fake and legit websites, you may check it through the source link if you see any unusual things in the source. Link then it is probably a scam, some people use email which they use to send you link and once you open it, you will redirect to the website.

There are also fake or scam giveaways happen innthe crypto worldz just like with this thread, there are also things happen on youtube, even though they have many subscribers they still do some scam giveaways.

The sad thing is that they wrote a full article and had their fellow scammers pump up/clapp for the post, also putting false testimonies of receiving payments after sending some bitcoins to Elon Musk, a few gullible persons will definitely fall for the scam

It's because there are lot of Youtube accounts being hacked specially those that has a lot of followers. And then use those hack channels to spread this fake Elon Musk giveaways. Again, the rule of thumb is that Elon Musk is not giving free money or any rich person for that matter. Second, be careful and use our common sense and be educated.

Not just in Youtube, but there are a lot of social platforms that has been spreading this kind of trick featuring Elon Musk.

Scammers are stupid guys and they always try to use same methods to scam on different platforms: the forum, other forums, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Medium, Instagram, and so on.

Giveaways: If such giveaways ask people to deposit first before being eligible to join such promising giveaways, don't join them.  :-\

They have a huge budget marketing their fake giveaway, I once saw a fake Elon Musk giveaway on Youtube ads, Google should screen and restrict this kind of advertisement, their platform is being used by scammers to scam people and this is not good for the reputation of adsense.

Good advice on avoiding being a victim of giveaways scams. It seem this particular group launched a coordinated attack. I got a message of the above scam also in my email referring me the same scam, this time, they used a twitter account screenshot. I knew better not to take them seriously
