Title: I need websites that convert fiat amounts to BTC without precision loss.
Post by: NotATether on July 22, 2020, 08:23:37 PM
As the title says I need an easy way to convert a fiat amount of money such as $5 to its equivalent BTC value, the problem with Google's and many other sites' converters is that they only show the BTC value to two decimal places as if they are paper currency. Since BTC is very valuable this causes a few digits of precision that represent 10s and 1s to be lost and thus are useless for converting small BTC values. Ideally it should be something online that I don't have to download and it should display all 8 decimal digits of BTC.

Sites like what I'm asking for are useful if I were to send someone a dollar or euro amount of bitcoin.

You can use the link below to convert BTC to more than 40 fiat currencies, and vice versa.

I like these sites, preev has a simple layout that can convert between common currencies but coingecko supports even more at the expense of more javascript and a heavier page. I'll keep these in mind and leave this thread open in case anyone has other sites to add.

Btw, Coinmarketcap also has a fiat to BTC converter as well: https://coinmarketcap.com/converter/usd/btc/

Also you can try the coindesk conversion tool. They supported more than 100 fiat currency to btc and vice versa. I think almost all fiat currency. The site is very simple and dont much have ads. Only few probably using this compared to coingecko and coinmarketcap.

This suggestion is for an app thou, I hope you don't mind. I have been using the Bituniverse app for a while now. Once you open the BitUniverse app, The Crypto calculator can be found by selecting the Me option on the bottom right, then Tools and finally Crypto Calculator

You can never get perfect pricing because it all depends on the exchanges which keep changing for seconds. Normally I will use Preev to check the price because it shows the actual value without refreshing the pages every time.

did not know for preev before, simple and effective, would say that it is an old one, since it is covering BTC, LTC and DOGE, team from before ETH

You can also try this:

YouMeAndBtc (https://youmeandbtc.com/bitcoin-converter/convert-btc-mbtc-bits-satoshis-usd/)

It also includes other Bitcoin units such as mBTC, uBTC, and Satoshis.

They used the live data from CryptoCompare Price Index (https://www.cryptocompare.com/) on their conversion.
