I have been using Copay as my main BTC wallet for about 5 years now.
I never thought about changing to a different wallet, because I never had a problem with it.
But out of no where, I got curious about which wallet other people are using.

What do you think is the best wallet out there for BTC? (Other than cold hardware wallets like Ledger)

Try out BlueWallet[1]. SegWit support, great UI/UX, open-source, and it has lightning support if you want to test it out. Pretty much covers everything I need in a Bitcoin wallet.

I've tried the two mentioned wallets, blue wallet and electrum and they're both good but I've used Electrum many times.

You can also try Coinomi, they have also mobile apps like Android and for IOS.
Although this wallet is not only for Bitcoin, you can also store lot of cryptocurrencies there.
But your Bitcoin still safe here are long as you have your seeds backup on your wallet and make it safe.

I have never used copay and have no idea how much it is. So far I have used bitcoin core, electrum and Mycellium for a while. Out of this three, electrum was the best since it does not require in sync (since it depends on other server) while bitcoin core needs sync. Anyway, what's the best depends on what is the use of the wallet too.

I preper electrum for my bitcoin storage. I don't know why but it feels more easier to use to me. Also, I never heard about copay so, I don't about this wallet.

It's hard to trust the new wallets so basically most of us are staying to the wallets that we used to use.

I guess it is. It is not a bad thing per se, since features are more important. New player does not solve anything if they provide more or less the same feature. Unless you're a company trying to make profits, contributing to open source projects might be a better thing to do if you're a developer with limited time.

Then again, this question has been asked many times and the answer would stay the same. It depends on your needs.

I am not familiar with that copay wallet, I am not that so familiar with bitcoin wallet or any crypt wallets because I am only using electrum  for me that wallet is so user friendly because it has no other complicated features compared to other wallets and it can process our transaction fast. I can say that it is good because I never been hacked with this kind of wallet.

why did you adjust the use of the hardware wallet?

If you ask about wallet security the best is the hardware wallet answer, because it has many features that support to keep your assets safe.

But if you are not happy or do not want to use a hardware wallet, you can use imToken as your new wallet that is used on smartphones that have good features and security in my opinion. I have been using the imToken wallet application for some of my assets.
Currently imToken has version 2.0 which is the latest version with many features embedded.

Never heard of Copay before, but the wallet which I have been using for the last couple of years is Green Address wallet on my Android mobiles and I absolutely love it.

The security, UI, TX information etc are all top notch in my opinion and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Android BTC wallet. Apart from this, I also suggest Electrum. MyEtherWallet has served me well for other cryptocurrencies.

Since you are asking out of Hardware wallet means you know the benefit of it. However, my first choice for hold bitcoin is Hardware wallet. I have heard the first time about Copay wallet, and by quick search noticed it's founded by Bitpay. That's not a problem at all since its non-custodial open-source wallet. Not much negative feedback about this wallet, so you might use it as well.

However, if you can download full blockchain then go with the Bitcoin core which is more secure. Or if you don't like download full node then you may use Electrum SPV wallet. I know Copay also SPV wallet like Electrum but Electrum has 2FA where Copay does not have. Electrum also easy to use especially you may set your transaction fees manually according to you but I am not sure if it's possible on Copay. I am using Electrum so I would prefer you to use it, but be careful from hackers. Doesn't matter what wallet you are using but keep your seeds safe and avoid a phishing attack by downloading any software or update from original sources.

I actually mainly use Electrum with a ledger. (but of course you can also use Ledger Live for communication with the Ledger)

Trend goes towards those wallets that provide the highest possible level of privacy, security, self-sovereignty. Wallets that are free, open-source with the option to validate transactions through your own node, personal electrum server, etc are considered the most reasonable choice among bitcoiners. Currently, there are many talks about the best implementation of CoinJoin, should we use solutions with mixing coordinator or not, should we use Whirlpool or JoinMarket. I would say the current trend is all about increase of decentralization (validate transactions with your own full node), increase of security (sign transactions with hardware wallet offline, airgapped, PSBT will be helpful here), increase of privacy (use CoinJoin implementations such as Whirlpool, Wasabi, JoinMarket).

I can recommend Electrum wallet. One of the oldest trusted wallet, has multiple options and I never had any issues. Also, for on the go Mycelium is very good, secure and trustworthy. My general recommendation is to choose multiple wallets and split funds, not to keep everything at one storage. It's much safer.

I agree with what others is recommending, Electrum is one of the best bitcoin wallet, lightweight, you have total control because you have the private keys and then you can manually set the fees.

They just released v 4.0.1 and If I'm not mistaken, it does support LN.

Electrum is the most recommended one here and that is the one I'm using too.

In the end, the wallet that you will be using will depend on how you will use Bitcoin. If you will hold some Bitcoin for quite a long time (like 1-3 years) then a hardware wallet can be use because it is safer and less prone to hacks compare to other wallets. If you will use Bitcoin for transaction purposes (like you will buy or will trade it) then Electrum is the one I recommend too. Now if the Bitcoin that you have is purely for trading only then just put it on exchange wallets.

In my part, I'm putting my Bitcoin into 2 different wallets. Since I don't have a hardware wallet right now, I'm putting my Bitcoin holdings in Electrum and the Bitcoin that I'm using for transaction purposes is being put in another wallet which I can convert it easily.

I use coinbase over three years and there is nothing problem with my btcand eth. I feel here secure and safety in coinbase. Ledger is also secure for btc, because it is also good for long long time.

Every people love wallet which low fee, can be editing manual fee and have RBF feature, lighting network either. I think which wallet has those features are the best wallet.

then, it depends what address you want to store your Bitcoin, If you want to use bech32 a.k.a Native Segwit you may use Electrum. as copay doesn't support bech32 address to be sure you have to try electrum which address begin bc1 as low fee.

I have been using Mycelium for mobile for quite some time now. It is a HD wallet and had a pretty clean interface. Lately they have been adding some sort of advertisements of the platform but so far this does not creates any nuisance so It's pretty simple. For PC I have not used any other wallet than Electrum thin client. It's just so simple and so clean that you just will fall in love with it. No idea about cold hardware wallets at all.

Edit: Oh yes forgot to add that both Mycelium and Electrum support bech32 addresses so are Segwit enabled. So that's a great add on.

I haven't tried before the coopay before and I don't have any read reviews about this because I'm a fan of coinbase wallet which they have a good security and 2FA which is a good thing everything you transact at the same time I'm using this for a long time but still they have cons like high transaction fees.

Also right now I'm using a hardware wallet not this time for the ledger because I don't have enough budget for now but soon I'm planning to buy that okay back to the main topic i want to use the Electrum because right now I have more in personal computer work which is a good thing and also they have a small amount of transaction fee.

OP, there few good and trusted wallets.Electrum (https://electrum.org/#home) (their github (https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum)), Bitcoin Core, and Armory. The last two is hard to install and for example Bitcoin Core is lack many capabilities which Electrum has. I don't know anything about Armory, because i never used it by myself.

Interesting, but i must remind you, that any wallet on Android can't be considered as "secure", because Android OS is too weak in terms of security (too much bugs, exploits and so on). But it's capabilities is nice of course.

To make this not confusing, bech32 addresses are the segwit addresses and all bitcoin bech32 addresses start with bc1. The P2SH addresses are not truly segwit but a compatible address which can receive bitcoin from segwit, legacy and its own addresses.

The safest bitcoin wallets are hardware wallets like ledger nano s, airgapped devices and paper wallet but for convenience, hardware wallet is better. The best online is still the bitcoin core but many could not have access to having enough data to download the whole blockchain and go for electrum on both computers and mobile phones, and mycelium on phones.

Electrum of course without any doubt. Many would argue that bitcoin core is the best but electrum is go to WALLET for even grannies. I would recommend electrum to my grannies too.

Native segwit, nested segwit, legacy all of them are compatible for receiving and sending bitcoin to each other. Your post is kind of confusing, may be only to me. You said as if segwit can't receive btc from legacy and vice versa while it is not.

I think bitcoin core on a dedicated pc like a mac mini is best.

You can easily clone the ssd and have two or three backups of the wallet.

this is more for a person with two or more btc as it is about 1200 usd to do it.

indeed maybe the first alternative is that people looking for a wallet would want costs if they can be cheap enough and can run well and quickly.

my experience having done transactions with low cost but getting bitcoin consequence is stuck quite long and it's quite annoying because our time is drained for every moment to see where the transaction goes.

I have tried an exchange before using legacy address, the transaction was reversed back into the wallet two times until I used legacy address. But I have indirectly made a comment about it in the bitcoin technical support today and I was corrected.

A good example of a bitcoin wallet, I used this wallet for how many years and I don't have any problem. You can also use Coinomi anf Mycelium for the multi-sig wallet. Coinomi has an exchange feature that you can ease to change your bitcoin to altcoins or vice versa.

I think your wallet COPAY is the best bitcoin wallet because as what you have said that you already used it for 5 years and never encounter any problem,that's good. I have tried using Electrum and Coinomi but i think i should also try to use COPAY to see the difference between those three bitcoin wallet.

What I did learning here, No recomended using online/webwallet. Blockchain.com had issue like Insufficient Funds (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5258478.0), 2 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5257914.0) and phishing.

I have ledger too, and its good wallet no doubt in that. From recently I'm using atomic wallet for bitcoin and some other coins and tokens, and I am satisfied with this wallet. Except storing you can stake some coins and get passive income from that, which is a very good feature, you can also set transaction fees. Its hardware wallet, you have private keys, their support is great too, I had problem some time ago and they solved that quickly. I have just good words for atomic, so if ledger is expensive for some people they can try atomic and I think everyone will be satisfied once they try it.

Actually it depends on your preference because mostly Bitcoin wallets do just share the same features and they are just adding up some feature to make their wallets unique. The important thing that you must consider on choosing your Bitcoin wallet is the safety of your funds which is the main priority and also the convenience on which you can be able to easily access your funds on the wallet you have chosen.

In my case, our country have generated a local wallet which I still use up to now ever since my Bitcoin journey have started. This Bitcoin wallet is a mobile app which I use for storing my Bitcoin and also other cryptocurrencies because it can also hold ETH, XRP, BCH and our local currency which is good for converting my cryptos because our country are still not into adaptation on using cryptocurrencies but we can use it though not directly because we still in need to convert it to be able to use it for purchasing goods and services.

Everyone has their favorite wallets, so do I have my own criteria when choosing wallets to use. Of course in my opinion the best
wallets are Ledger Nano, in addition we can full control the wallet and also because we ourselves hold the private key. So Ledger
Nano is safest to use, it can at least prevent hacked accounts.

Well for me, my best bet in storing my bitcoin is Coinbase, since it's one of the easiest ways to buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies and it's the safest web wallets you can use. Coinbase keeps almost 99% of their assets in an offline cold storage that can't be accessed. When in cold storage, they cannot be hacked!

The spoken truth, "don't store all your wealth into one wallet" ensure to diversify your wealth storage. Mycelium is my favourite, I have been using this wallet for years without any issue and will wholeheartedly approve this wallet for anyone. Also, Exodus wallet is another good cryptocurrency wallet with good trust and reputation, they have been operating in this industry without security breaches like others. Among all, ensure to store your stash coins into a wallet you have the right of ownership.

I have been using local wallet for long time now mate,like yours it is safe since then so i see no issue at all but
the problem is what if one day our wallet provider shutdown for some reason?or being hacked badly?

I think the safer wallet is Ledger in which we are the one who holds our own currency and this means the

I recommend Mycelium and Electrum wallet because I also used it for 2 years from now, and I haven't experience any issue or problem in both of these wallets. Maybe because I don't store most of funds in my online wallets that I store most of my funds in my hardware wallet because it is much safer.

Use Electrum to make your cold wallet, which are those 12 words written by hand on paper. That's the best in my opinion.

For smaller amounts, you could use one of those gadgets, or a secure computer/mobile. Do not think of storing flash memory somewhere thinking that works, flash memory tends to lose its data over time when stored unplugged, so don't.

I keep telling people those hardware wallets are a really bad choice for cold storage, or an usb thumbdrive; just don't. If you are scared of the 12 words, be creative hiding them, could be a book or something. And remember to always have two physical copies in separate secure places.

Of course you could use core, if you live in a nice place with unlimited and fast internet, downloading the whole blockchain shouldn't be a problem. Too bad there are still places in this world like my country with garbage metered, capped, slow and unreliable links.

No matter which wallet you use, the main thing is to keep the private key secure. People only focus on the best wallets but does not care about the private key security as much as they should. For example if you have a hardware wallet but you write its private key / password on an openly accessible place, anyone can use that key to unlock your wallet.

Besides the code behind it, there shouldn't be needed trust when it comes to wallets. They were meant to be trustless, so any custodial or closed source wallet falls short for me.

MyEtherWallet is supposedly alright, but since it runs in a web browser, I would rather go for a downloadable (software) wallet instead. A very simple and insesizable mistake when entering the website (or if it's compromised) could lead to the disappearance of your funds faster and easier than you probably imagine.

Actually I also diversify my funds in 2 bitcoin wallets beause I'm aware that it is risky but the good things is I still not experienced to lose my funds from using local bitcoin wallet. I use 2 bitcoin wallets which is Electrum and Coins.ph. Both of them are good to use especially coins.ph because it is really usable for me where it is not just a simple wallet and I can use it to pay my bills and also to buy good and services online. I do not say that it is the best wallet out there but I only saying that it is the bitcoin wallet that is suitable for me.

It depends on using what you're looking for it could be either mobile wallet or destop wallet, and what features are most important to suite you as a user. I think Coinbase is one of the best wallets for Bitcoin. It is very easy to use. You can easily exchange your coins through it. You can recharge your mobile through Coinbase. You can even transact with banks. Alternatively you can use a trust wallet, it is also a good wallet.

I think you somehow missed to read comments above. The two examples you provided are not that good in the way you think:
- Coinbase is custudiol wallet created by Coinbase exchange. If you store your money there, technically you don't own it. Also they don't give you access to the private keys of the addresses you use. You have to trust Coinbase company if you want to keep using it.
- Trust wallet is safer but it's closed source. Owned by Binance exchange, you should trust the platform in order to use it.

Blockchain wallet is the best to me. This wallet is very safe. I'm using it since 2016. But don't forget to save your login details. There is no option to reset password incase you forgot it.

There is no application that is really safe. It depends on a person where they make it safe.

there had any option, I know blockchain com user can't reset password but they can access wallet via seed phrase. cause that to make backup phrase seed at a paper or other safe places.

There is no best wallet. You have to determine it on a case by case basis, based on what the OP needs / wants / has access to.

Talking about running "X" desktop wallet along with with a hardware is good advice. But, without knowing if the OP has a desktop or is doing everything on a tablet is pointless.

My best bitcoin wallet is also Electrum I had been using Blockchain quite sometimes now until when I switched to electrum particularly the andriod phone wallet I really like all its features and user friendly while its interface is easily navigable most importantly is that it is Sigwit complainant honestly the wallet is the best I also recommend it to the OP a trial will surely convince him.

Recently one of my problems is to find out a cryptocurrency wallet that supports to my transaction and at the same time, a friend of mine suggest my the use of the electrum I have doubt because this is my first time to use this kind of wallet and setting up to my personal computer after the configuration I explore more you have a lot of Segwit Native (Bech32) starts with the "bc1" address and also you can adjust the lever to your transaction fee which is more favorable to the users. Also, they have the labels this is one of the most important you can take a note.

How much is the transaction fee from the electrum compare to the coinomi wallet?

I have once tried electrum but uninstalled this wallet a long time ago. I might install it again since I wanna keep the coins I earn to this wallet. Right now I just keep the tokens on online wallet since I just wanna make it available wherever I am.  If its lesser I guess I can move the BTC but more than that I'd like to think about it first.

I started with Blockchain wallet and Coinbase wallet and I was using the both of them on mobile. I never had any issues with them, but I have seen people who complain about these two wallets. Some have said that their money stored in Blockchain disappeared all of a sudden and customer support is not replying their complaints sent to their mail. And some have also claimed that these wallets have bugs and the rest.

So, I then got myself a hardware wallet to back them up. I just stored my assets using these three wallets. None of them are perfect, there will always be those that complain. I’m just being careful with how I use them, because I know the pros and cons.

To be honest, this is the first time I'm hearing about this copay wallet, I've been in crypto space for years and i do use Multicurrency wallet for my btc, here are few examples of the ones I've used; blockchain wallet which can be accessed on both web and mobile app, another one is coinomi which is also a multi-currency wallet for other altcoins. I also do use atomic wallet, it has been rated multiple times to be the best Multicurrency wallet in the w hmm ole industry currently

Likewise. I have been using Blockchain and Coinbase as my Bitcoin storage for a long time. Fortunately, I haven't encountered any problem upon using these 2 wallet but just to make sure I diversify my Bitcoins in few different wallets, yeah it's kinda hassle to manage them but I prefer more this way. Besides, I have my hardware wallet as well for more firm security.

This wallet is for users who trade on daily basis or do gambling or require of business purpose etc. Though ideally only limited amount of coins should be stored on any such wallets as this are not really at times when the hack happens and that is why storing it offline are the best way to avoid security lapses.

The best bitcoin wallet is the one that belongs to you and you have all the keys, passwords, mnemonic phrases. Online wallets usually does not provide such info for users. In case something happens to you online wallet, you can not recover it using all mentioned above. Online wallets also charge extra fees. So if you are operating with small amount and count every penny - skip them. I suggest using such wallet, where user can manually transaction fee (sat/byte).

I am actually surprised to see that most of you never heard of Copay wallet. Its been around for a long time.

I don't know if you ever heard of Bitpay wallet, but Copay is part of their project.
Copay wallet is their pure 'wallet' with no functionality other than sending, receiving, and storing Bitcoin.
While Bitpay wallet has other functionalities integrated to it.

Please, accept my condolences, man. To use something on mobile phone if you're not Apple user or highly skilled android user (who have a basic knowledge in coding) - it's not a cleverest thing. Even if we are talking about such wallets as Blockchain info.

After you log in inside blockchain, it sends you an encrypted wallet file. Encrypted by your password. And you suing it on client side (your phone). If this phone is on Android os, and you're not lucky enough (to avoid this) when you have great chances to be robbed. Use something better, or just avoid to use anything on phone.

Until you lose all your savings just for a silly mistake. :P

Its time to grow up and start learning about real decentralized and non custodial wallet, I suggest you to use Electrum which is easy and simple but importantly it gives you private keys.

Hardware and paper wallets are in my opinion the safest BTC or crypto wallets you can use as a trader or investor
These wallets are impossible to hack into online and can only be compromised  if you loose your private keys.
As regards private keys the best way you can store your private keys is using stainless steel dogtags..
Writing your keys on a paper is not adviceable as paper can easily be ruined by water or fire.

One of my favorite wallets was Coinbase Wallet but now I am using other wallets I am using blockchain wallet I am using Translate because if I keep my currencies here I must be in security Of course there is no possibility of my currencies being stolen because of course those who work with cryptocurrencies  They all want a wallet to keep their bitcoin safe

Avoid Freewallet because they are a scam, they are stealing coins from users like Elon Musk, they are not a real wallet because users have no access to the private key.

I do not use cold wallets, but not so long ago I saw an excellent Safepal wallet, made an order, and now I am waiting. I read some good reviews about this wallet. At the moment, bitcoin in different parts lies on the top trading platforms

Nowadays I want to tell you that you can use Coinbase Wallet very easily if you want and you can use Blockchain Wallet very easily if you want. Of these few wallets I think your Bitcoin will be very secure. I think the cold wallets are the best for storing bitcoin, but if the amount is small, you can also use, for example electrum, if you have access to the keys

Please do not try New Wallets if they offer you free tokens first of all and always use wallets that are non-custodials. I have been using Mycelium wallet for more than a year now and I have not faced any issue till date.

I am a new member of the online market. I must say that the best and most secure wallet for me at the moment is Bitcoin Wallet and Blockchain Wallet and Coinbase Wallet. I am very fond of them.  And I think you can use it, you won't have any problems, it's my favorite wallet

For me, the best bitcoin wallet, apart from a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor, would be Electrum. It always works, and afaik it is very safe to use.

And an app I enjoy a lot is the one from Crypto.com, where you can deposit and swap cryptocurrencies, and also send them to your prepaid visa card, but with this one, again, not your keys not your crypto.
