Title: Accidentally sent a transaction with 50 sat/b. Will I have to wait long?
Post by: Jhanzo on July 28, 2020, 06:56:56 PM
Haven't been using bitcoin in over a year so I've no idea where to check or how to make it faster. Can I still spend the output with higher fee to make it confirm faster?

If you have RBF  enable then yes you can. Right now to get the next block you need at-least 120 sat/B (this is crazy) but 50 sat/B is still good. This may take few hours to confirm and if you do not have hurry then it worth to wait.

Which client you are using?

I think 50 sats per byte should take 4nor 5 hours. I sent a transaction before with that fee I'll see if its confirmed.

You can do a cpfp if you want to.

Edit: it's 10mb from the tip mine. So is unconfirmed.

Thanks. Unfortunately I forgot to enable rbf so I'll just try cpfp.

If you have the change address then you can.
In case if you are using Electrum here is a tutorial: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-do-a-manual-child-pays-for-parent-transaction/

I guess it all depends, but yesterday I had a transaction stuck in the network for more than 5 hours and I'd included a fee of 65.7sats/byte.

Right now to get the next block you need at-least 120 sat/B (this is crazy) but 50 sat/B is still good.
That is indeed crazy, and it annoys me when the network gets this constipated.  It was much worse a couple of years ago if I'm remembering correctly--but I do recall that the minimum fee to send about $120 worth of bitcoin from my Mycelium wallet was roughly $45.  That's an issue with Mycelium, though, and it's why I don't use it much anymore.
