What we need is to raise awareness for these scam ads. If YouTube won't be taking them down anytime soon because they are profitable, they are just for the sake of the money and don't care for the welfare of the people who watch those ads.

Because anyone will be fooled by those ads if they are not aware of those scammers schemes. If there will be no taking down soon, I guess communities will have to raise it to the government so that they'll be able to make YouTube a quick response.

I think we need to be careful to stop the scandalous YouTube ads and try to stay away from new links since we use YouTube on a PC through a browser the most effective way to block ads on a PC is through a browser extension.

The most interesting thing about browser extensions is that once you add the ad blocker extension you don't have to do anything else. You can use YouTube comfortably without any ads another good news is that you can also use this extension on your smartphone these are also quite easy to use.

Or join with Steve Wozniak suing youtube (aka google aka alphabet) for letting his name be abused in this fashion, when at the very same time, they happily flag innocents of copyright infraction...

Seriously, Google should feel deeply ashamed for pissing The Woz.

The article covers all this but we essentially need people to view the ads for 31 seconds. Why? Because YouTube counts an ad impression for instream ads as a view that lasts at least 30 seconds. Most people either have an ad blocker or just know that the “giveaway” is a scam so they just skip it as fast as they can. This is the opposite of what needs to happen because that allows the scammers ad set to be more profitable and have a larger audience reach. They then are able to use this reach to target new users of cryptocurrency who fall for these ads and end up convinced that everyone who uses crypto are scammers.

The article also covers why YouTube won’t do anything to stop these ads

We can't do anything other than reporting those ads, Youtube will review the ads once they receive certain amount of reports as bad and will remove it if it violates their terms. But such kind of ads are getting approves actually will create bad impression for them only.

The article covers why YouTube won’t do anything. Basically YouTube’s attitude has been “not my problem bro” when it comes to these ads. The only way to stop them is to ensure that the ads are not profitable. The only way to do that is to watch exactly 31 seconds of the ad when it comes up. These ads are several hours long in some cases but since they are in stream ads the scammers are charged exactly the same amount per engagement. An engagement is a view that lasts 30 seconds or more. So just watch 31 seconds, skip the video, and smile at the fact that you just cost some asshole money.

It’s also worth noting that YouTube already reviews every ad to make sure it’s “not harmful” they know these ads are being uploaded in the first place and they are willfully allowing it. They do not care. And it’s partly because they are getting press out of it, but it’s mostly because they are claiming protections as a publisher. If they remove the ads they would not be able to claim the same protections and there would be grounds for them to be liable for any future scams.

I doubt it that they are reviewing it. Because if they do, we will never see any of them popping as we watch a video.

Google is good through taking down fake apps with google play but not with YouTube.

Every time i encountered this kind?reporting is what i am doing first, because we cannot find justice just by sharing report first and then make a post.

This is rampant in our days now because of this pandemic and the coming US election so let us contribute by reporting them mate.

I assume this website is owned by you OP. It has got a few loading issues and it can be easily optimized to load within a few seconds. Please look into it as it took me more than 10s to view the content.

Youtube is unable to control such scams, it is evident by the increasing numbers getting reported by members on this forum. I too have seen these live feeds urging Youtube members to sent Bitcoin with the pretext of doubling the quantity in the form of Giveaways.

I have been reporting them to Youtube and I urge everyone to report them and educate others related about these scams Giveaways.

It may take few hours for the Youtube to review ads or videos related to scam but that is more than enough for those scammers to loot money.Youtube is bit lazy while removing those ads but all we can do is just report the ads and even can tell them about this on Twitter for much faster response by tagging Youtube team.

Honestly, it wouldn't reach an hour for them tor review each scam ad. They have to be dedicated in taking down
those scam ads.

If there is a will from them, there is a way.

Is there actually anything we could do/practice on daily basis to improve the situation?

Remember millions of videos will be posted on Youtube every hour so imagine how much report queue they need to investigate so more reports will get higher priority that is why they are bit slow in removing scam ads and videos.

Has youtube explained why such scams still thrive despite trying to stop them?
I wonder how the company will cope if it has thousands of such ads buying up ad space everyday to scam their customers.

Well, I wish companies (decentralized ones esp) could experiment with some viable decentralized model of moderating sites. That will make moderation way faster, transparent and difficult for scams.

It's not about the millions of videos being posted but it's about the ads that's being reported to them.

They have those records of which ads that they have approved to appear for those videos. If they have a sense of responsibility with those reports, they can easily take those ads out.

Millions of videos means huge amounts of reports as well, people could report the videos for different reasons so ads might take time to be removed but if they have responsibility they should take care them when approving itself so lot of time can be saved and people are also can be saved.

Yes that could be millions of report.

But, that could only point out to the same ads so that's not a matter it could be just counts but it will direct to similar and specific ads.

Reports aren't specific they only give categories while reporting so still the queue will be huge to analyse. Many popular individuals accused Youtube for promoting such things that is why Youtube is start terminating the accounts but still they need to find employees with crypto related knowledge so they can validate the report accurately.

I think you're literally thinking for each of ad report to be separated from each other.

What I'm explaining to you is one ad can appear to thousands of videos and if all of the viewers reports one ad then that's just go into category, it's not literally that they have to count it one by one.

I am also saying the same, one ad could be reported multiple times to get the priority in the checking or investigating, unfortunately most of the people don't understand what it is that so people reporting crypto related ads could be less compared to general ads and videos that is why it its taking more time.
