Title: What will you do when Bitcoin reach$20k?
Post by: jonathan6655321 on August 03, 2020, 06:23:54 AM
I was in the market few years ago when bitcoin almost reached $20k. I wasn't acting then (hodling for few years already) and I think a lot about when I should act next.

I wonder what other people who hodl bitcoin for few years plan to do.

Do you have a price in mind than when bitcoin will reach it, only then you plan to sell?

Going to continue accumulating bitcoin as per usual. If 20k is your target price, are you even bullish? Those are rookie numbers, you gotta pump those numbers up!

While most of the people are here for the money, some of us are here for the revolution.

Do you have a price in mind than when bitcoin will reach it, only then you plan to sell?

Perhaps I will sell half of my savings. Perhaps a smaller part. What I definitely won't do is sell everything I have.

in reality $20k is just an arbitrary number that doesn't matter one bit. but when it comes to users behavior they are all known to build up imaginary resistances at previous all time highs, which is  why sometimes they are referred to as psychological barriers.
we saw this last time too when price got close to $1200 which was the ATH of that time (during 2017 bull run). people tend to sell more for some reason and regret it in about a month.

what would i do? mostly nothing because i don't day trade bitcoin and i have already bought what i could afford when bitcoin was undervalued. by the time we reach ATH we will be in a full bull run mode. if i had some extra money to dump to buy bitcoin then i would do it then like i always do.

To me, isn't a choice based solely on price. It's something that will depend on a lot of factors actually, the crucial one being Bitcoin's legal status around the world. I would not sell for a very long time and just keep accumulating instead, but if I find it a defeat against the authorities, I might reconsider. This is like talking about the choices I'd make if and when Bitcoin touches $1M - is price the only decisive factor?

I am still accumulating bitcoin, and I still try to make more bitcoin, but I also want to sell bitcoin at that price since I want to repeat the memories that I've already had before ;D

$20k is not my target price because I am sure that the bitcoin price will be more than $20k, no matter if that will happen this year or next year. So when I can see that price again, I am still trying to calm down but will sell some bitcoin to make another profit. I hope that the next new ATH will be more than $20k, and it could be $30k-$40k ;D

I will be honest about it. I am not gonna repeat the same mistake I have done on previous ATH. Although I am not holding much bitcoin, holding some shitcoin. Once it will recover and bitcoin touch ATH again, then I am gonna sell all of them. It's because when I will sell my all holding it will be very easy to start any real-life business for me.

So I will do good real-life business and I will accumulate bitcoin again from my profits. Just holding bitcoin wouldn't be a good choice for me since I am not a very rich man. And I shouldn't wait when bitcoin price will be million dollars. If I can't enjoy my earns then what are the benefits and who know if bitcoin dump again after touch ATH. I am not gonna be greedy again.

We can't have the same idea here as we don't buy btc at the same rate, just do the right thing, before you buy bitcoin you believe that is a cheap price and you have plan to sell it at a specific price, so if it's your plan to sell it when bitcoin reach $20,000, then you should do it without hesitation.

I learn a lot in the past, I was greedy so I would not make the same mistake again, sell when you are in profit and don't worry, the market is volatile, if it will pump, it will surely dump again and you can start accumulating again.

I will wait it to reach 20k EUR! (j/k)

As @pooya87 said: 20k $ is just a number like any other.
Yes, for the most unlucky (who bought at ATH) this would mean finally profit. But most are already on profit at this price and if you stop to listen you can hear the party.

Some will sell (more or less), some will hold (more or less), some may just start buying (FOMO WTG!).
I don't know what will I do. I tend to believe that 20k USD is only a small stop to something much higher. Although I sell now and then tiny amounts, I may wait a little longer, so maybe I can make the bigger part of my stash actually worth something.

I think to me I will immediately sell my bitcoin because we are talking about the 20k market price and this is so sure during the fall down of the market price of the bitcoin I already invested on this year on the month of March when the market price of the bitcoin falls and this is a good thing I take a long time to hold all of my funds and I think the 20k dollar market price is the right thing I'm not a holder for a longterm like for almost a year because I made an investment only just for getting profit. I know some of you will do this too but still, some of them are holding this coin to make more profit for the next coming long year but I will need this to build my future goals.

It would be a epic day.... or should I say a few hours, because it is not going to last long. There are a lot of people who bought at the all-time-high back then and these true hodlers are going to cause a big sell off when this happens.

Just remember that the big spike back then was smack in the middle of the peak of all those Initial Coin Offering (ICO) and when the large social media companies started to ban Crypto advertisements ...it all tanked.  (What will be the trigger for a $20k spike now?)

I might sell on $20,000 to have some celebration pack as it reaches back there but I'll definitely hold as it's more likely to over-extend that price.

I'm aiming for higher price than that but as usual, I'm adjusting to whichever price is good to sell.

Answered more or less the same recently, I have two trigger points for liquidating and retiring (not 100% too, liquidating most and giving the rest away as inheritance): time or price, whichever comes first.

My price trigger is way above ATH, haha.

So the only way I actually sell at 20k is if by the time my time frame is reached or almost, and price is 20k.

Expexting too much really hurts. If I were those who are holding bitcoin will going regret not selling it when it reaches to almost 20k. There are high chances that it can go high more than that but it will be a  little chance to happen.

I think one must think on how to earn in bitcoin not really thinking of how much one can earn but as long as one can earn. This how one should think. Being more practical in the investment.

Maybe it will reach 20k and more one day, but not during the actual pump.
I'm expecting a crash (August is not a good month usually for crypto) and in September we will have a second wave of COVID with the alarming economic bilan mainly for EU and US. The amount of $$ printed couldn't be good either...
From my point of view all these points can't help BTC (nor ETH) to go to the moon for the next two month.

If the price of bitcoin reached this amount, I will sell all the currencies that I own from bitcoin because I do not think that the price of bitcoin can never exceed this amount and I will achieve good profits through that because I purchased those currencies at a low price

There are a lot of people who will sell off their coin when BTC reaches $20k again. Personally, I would sell a part of my holding. It does not make sense to hold still when you have almost 100% ROI. If I average my BTC purchase price which I did long ago, the average is around $8k(can not remember exactly but around).

If it hits $20k again, I wouldn’t mind selling my gains rather than all of it. In other words, I keep my capital and sell my profits. I still have hopes that Bitcoin would reach $20k again, but we won’t know when it will happen again.

I see that DeFi projects are on a roll, and Ethereum is going up like crazy. It’s all-time high was $1,400 I think. It did flash crashed before going up again.

I made a big mistake at the time because I invested some bitcoin in altcoins that are now worth nothing.
If I was smarter I would leave everything in bitcoin and now I would have a lot more in my wallet, even with the decline in the value of bitcoin in the meantime.
I was too inspired and delighted by the sudden increase in the value of some altcoin.
So, What will I do when Bitcoin reach $20k?
I will close the loan I have in the bank first and when bitcoin reaches $ 100k I think I will finally quit my job and be financially free.   ;D ;D

I would act depending on my situation if I need the money then why would I keep it in crypto if I want to buy something and I could with the Bitcoin price reaching $20K then why wouldn't I,
But if I have nothing to do with the money then I would just keep on holding it and see how it would be moving and then decide if I would keep it in crypto or in cash for the next couple of weeks, months or maybe year.

Waiting on Bitcoin to reach higher values is only natural and would really be profitable if you started to invest on it right now. Bitcoin will reach higher and higher values and the only time we can sell it are those times when money is needed. You have the decision to take out your money that you will be using on your necessities. Bitcoin hitting various values does not affect someone when they needed money.

My profit target is just bit lower than 20k, meaning that by the time we hit 20k, i'll be sitting in some decent profits so i'll get to enjoy stress-free how everything unfolds once we reach the magical number.
Then after things calm down for a bit, I'll try to find a new entry-point to buy & hodl for the long-term again (:

I will do absolutely nothing. It will be a signal for the start of the next phase of growth, not the end of it.

We had similar threads about what would happen when it returned to the $1200 area. Imagine how you'd feel if you'd gotten rid then, though if that figure met the cost of all your dreams and requirements then more power to you.

But Btc might double your price target and that would be stressing as well. Let's look back what happened in 2017, some investors sold their Btc at $10,000 - $11,000. Unexpectedly, Btc continued to rose to the point that those who sold at the $10,000+ level bought back at even a higher price then Btc stopped rising at around $19,000 or $20,000(from other exchange) as an ATH.

But then your decision is still a good position of making a realistic profit. What I want to emphasize is that, Btc can potentially breakthrough the $20k and might surge to a much higher figure.

^ I will still hold my bitcoin and accumulate more when I have enough money that can I afford to invest. Every one of us has a goal about reaching the price of bitcoin, but for me is different, I accumulate bitcoin for saving purposes. Just like a pension plan that someday I still have my fund to use. I know bitcoin will just fly up high, $20k is just a small number to wipe out your wallet and convert into fiat. I saved my bitcoin emergency fund purpose, if everyone has been saved bitcoin during a pandemic, there's no economic crisis and no one has been suffered financial problems.

Thats the price that I've been waiting since the last bullrun. Seeing the value reach $20k again is really good because thats my target price to take profit. I will sell some of my bitcoins and hold whats left. If the price experience correction I will accumulate again and hold.

Bitcoin not only serves its purpose as currency because it is indeed good as investment as well specially if we hold longer.

Just accumulating more and more Bitcoins :D.

I know that some here will do the same too but I don't think that this will happen this year. Maybe next year is when $20,000 will be reached. Maybe there are some here that has $20,000 as their target price to sell but for me, anytime is the perfect for me to sell because I already separated my long term holdings to my Bitcoin that I've been using to pay some expenses. For me, $20,000 is just a low target price for long term (around 3-5 years) so if your target selling price is $20,000 then you should think twice before doing it :D.

It would be a very hard decision to me. If bitcoin would suddenly reach it's price up to $20K again because I don't know if holding all of it would be the right decision due to most people might sell out most of their bitcoins. So I think selling the half of my funds might be the right thing if bitcoin's price will reach $20K to maintain my long-term investment.

I think I'll sell a small percentage of my bitcoins then, and I don't think I'm the only one.  Just to see some of my profits, but then I don't think I'll sell anymore until 50,000. I plan to sell small parts as new ATHs are reached, but never selling all.

I will definitely keep my bitcoins until my goals are achieved. The fact is that today there is a large investment in cryptocurrency, with quite meaningful tasks, compared to the period of 2016 and 2017. Each investor today takes into account the risks, and at the same time made certain conclusions, invests his funds in the cryptocurrency. In addition, if we take into account the attraction of funds from the stock market, as well as from larger investors, then there is a very high probability that Bitcoin, thanks to institutional investments, will not stop at $ 20,000 in the near future.

No doubt to sell my Bitcoins, just to be honest. I've missed that chance before and I don't want it to happen again even though if the market surpasses $20k, I was thankful by then. And to think about buying this time, definitely, it is not what I have to do. I have to wait for the market to fall back, then have to start accumulating Bitcoin again.

Maybe I am wrong, but the market won't be easy to move over $20k. I was looking at the 2017 case and it is unlikely to see it happening again knowing the case that we have at this time. Well, that volatility will make it possible but I'm not a bullish person, and not even it gives assurance for the next Bullrun will be more bullish compared to 2017.

The strategy should not change even if you bought at the last bull peak. I might have to do a little audit of my portfolio then, move more altcoin into bitcoin if the price goes sideway at a point probably to share the portfolio with equal half with other coin. I would like choose the price for taking profit from $20k, IMO $65k should start the price of laddering taking profit into the peak that might come.

Will not consider selling under $100k unless I need that money or maybe selling a part of it between $50k-100k if it is necessary.
I am pretty sure this $20k will be the starting price to buy bitcoin after few years!

Well, as usual, i will probably convert it to fiat and then rebuy at down price again with that profits I have earned if ever it will reach $20k again. Reinvesting it to hold more bitcoins, that's what I probably do. Though it is hard to say that it will really reach that too soon but I am still doing that kind of technique. I mean hitting target profit then convert and rebuy. That's my usual way of doing.

Anyhow, why still wait for the $20 while we are at bull run at the moment and majority earn some profits already?

There is no actual plan right now. I just try to accumulate my bitcoin and ethereum day by day and hopefully one day I can become rich with those coins. I have missed the chance in 2017 and I never want to miss another chance again. We are obviously all here for a big revolution ever in the blockchain industry.

I guess bitcoin will hit $50000 in a few more years. But my first target is still $20000. We need to break this point first in order to go any further

Yes this exactly. $20k is when the bull run STARTS getting interesting. Everything up until $20k is just the warm-up part of the bull run.

Personally I'm looking to start selling my long term bitcoin once it goes a bit north of $50k and have most of it sold by like $80k. Probably keep one to sell at $100k if it goes that high this cycle just so I can say I sold one for 6 digits. This way even if the bull run stops earlier than I think, and stalls out at like $60k, I'll still have sold a few in the $50,000s. So when Bitcoin hits $20k I'll be thinking "sweet, now I will likely be able to sell within the next year when it goes several times higher". NOBODY should be selling long term bitcoin at $20k - that was the last peak, so that would pretty much the most regretful time to sell because that means Bitcoin is likely about to go on an exponential run of several hundred percent. I think anyone who is targeting $20k is fairly new to crypto and hasn't even studied the price history of bitcoin.

Like, I sold all my bitcoin (like a dummy) in 2015 at like $250 or something because I was like oh I guess the bitcoin experiment isn't going anywhere. Then I started buying back in at $1300 in April 2017 because I was like crap it's back to the old peak, that means bitcoin is back and its about to start really moving. The old ATH is not the time to sell, it is the time to buy if for some reason you haven't been accumulating for years already.

It will took alot of time when BTC can reach such amount, so better learn to budget and create sources of income to achieved financial freedom. Working while investing can help us to achieve this goals. I also regretted not selling my BTC year 2017 but I was able to quit my job that time thru trading and now Im finding ways to do business while investing in BTC. If ever BTC reach 20k again,I will expand my business hopefully.

That is a good idea to be financially free with or without bitcoin because if we can do that, I am sure that we don't need to wait for bitcoin to touch $100k. Yes, I agree that we must learn how to get more income sources so we can earn more money, which we can convert into bitcoin, so we will be ready when bitcoin price touches $100k. I am sure that many of us are still trying to have more bitcoin in many ways, and even I am sure that many people are trying to make money and convert it into bitcoin. Bitcoin price will reach $20k again, and I am sure the price will be more than $20k in the next bull run, so what we need to do know is saving more bitcoin.

I have a feeling you'll be selling too early. :P

The way everyone and their grandma is expecting diminishing gains on the next cycle, I'm really beginning to expect the opposite. As far as multiples above the previous ATH go, maybe we should be looking between 2013 and 2017 (16x-36x), not simply assuming the next cycle will be much smaller this time around.

As of now I've got very small amount of bitcoin that's been bought for the purpose of trading. The same is being used on regular buying and selling. Possibly I'll sell what's available with me when the price reaches $20000. The price has reached the peak years back, and people are expecting the same to happen in the near days. While the price reaches $20000, I'll convert everything to USDT and further will buyback when the price drops again.

I believe Bitcoin will hit a higher high than in 2017. In 2013, after the 2012 halving, the value of the coin increased by 12,000%, and in 2017 - by 13,000%. Therefore, there is a very high hope that this time Bitcoin will adhere to the same tradition.

For me it usually depends on the situation. It is just like the last time we reached an ATH price, I did sell just a part of my coins, but when I noticed that the market kept dropping too much I decided to sell my coins and wait for it drop to a low price and after it did I still invested back my money.

So, it all depends. If the price should go up again I’m going to be selling some of my coins for sure and then, if it shows signs that it will be crashing, I will sell the remaining ones and wait for it to decrease to the least price to buy back.

I have no intention to sell according to price.

I plan to keep buying when I can and sell as little as possible when I must. The current price has nothing to do with it. In the long run, the price will keep rising despite short-term ups and downs.

Selling a significant amount at $20k would be as foolish as selling for $33 in 2013 or $1.2k in 2017.

Just sell some bitcoin is I need the money, otherwise I just hold it and wait till it really gets big.

I don't know. To be honest I haven't thought about it because I don't think this will happen so soon. I'll made the decision according to the situation at that moment. Maybe I will sell a part, maybe don't but that will not change my situation in dramatic way. Until then I will try to enlarge my Bitcoin portfolio as much as I can.

I understand what you are trying to say but if you are seeing the market turning bearish and you have all the time in the world to monitor the market then you can book your profit when the price reaches a certain valuation and then plan on buying again when the market settles. I usually tend to do these kind of trades if i am convinced that the market would enter a bearish run to buy back again.

The worst mistake I can ever do is to sell off my bitcoin for $20k price. I would prefer hodling onto it for years, to see it arrive at $100k.
Am ready hodl on to my bitcoin assets, it doesn't matter how long it will take to reach her ATH of "$100k''.

If you are well prepared and you are using spare money then you are good to go.

It's easy for people who have enough money to use separately  from their  investment.  You'll not be afraid
of whatever happened inside the market until your target value will be reached.

It's always good to have good reserve for much better target.

That's actually my approach as well

As a trader if bitcoin touch the previous its all time high I'll expect the other all time high. Now, most of the trader just focus on bitcoin's price its privious all time high i.e $20.000 and after that if new all time high has been reached then there will be two option. One option the investor will see the market sentiment, they will decide to keep hold if the sentiment market is still good because they will expect the new all time can be reached. And the second option is they will sell it if the market sentiment is bad. Yeah, they will learn with the privious situation when bitcoin price touch all time high, its market still volatile and also the regulation from some countries still unclear againts bitcoin.

It varies from person to person if you ask me then I will consider about selling when the bullish trend starts to dump from the long greenish and the price could be 25K or 40K but I hope it will happen after new all time high.

Of course many really hope that what you say can happen, many who have held bitcoin for a long time, have waited long enough for bitcoin to move up high. because at that time many had held onto the results where a long time of waiting could be realized properly.

All bitcoin movements will of course be determined at the end of this year, because the time to get there is still quite a while, it is possible that while waiting for it, bitcoin may fall again. but there is no need to worry that bitcoin will quickly make corrections to bounce back soon until the end of the year.

My prediction for the end of this year is not from the end of bitcoin to increase, it can be ascertained that next year is the year when bitcoin will experience a sharp increase and can exceed its value when 2017. is valued at what price will bitcoin be achieved? there are still many predictions that occur with this assessment.

The fact is that this question can be answered ambiguously. In my opinion, everything will depend on how the cryptocurrency market stabilizes. And I very much hope that the cryptocurrency market will not experience such shocks as it did in 2018 and 2019. Since cryptocurrency is currently viewed as an alternative investment that will save capital for many companies due to the economic crisis, it is likely that attracting investment funds will only increase the value of Bitcoin. Based on this, I will consider Bitcoin as a reliable storage for my funds when it reaches $ 20,000 for Bitcoin and above.

to be honest i would say that if the price reached $20,000 i would sell and expect to see a 10% drop to buy again, but this will also depend on the support that will have when the price reaches $20,000 and the economic conditions that will have when the price reaches $20,000, for example: there may be a case of having excellent news when the price reaches 20,000 $ in this scenario I will not run to sell

Bitcoin price movement is cyclic so at some point it will fall for sure before taking off to the next level but it is impossible to find when it is going to happen that is why I said, I will sell a part when the price movement turns into red after a long green trend.

It depends and varies to each person yet we know that we do have different set goals in mind when it comes to our investment, some might be a hodler but they do have
particular price in mind on when they would tend to sell because we know that people are way too emotional or can be easily be distracted nor influenced on whats
happening currently in the market. If they do saw that they already profited out then they might have second thoughts on selling it early. It all matters on decision
from time to time because it do changes while we do go ahead.Reaching ATH or not then each of us do have a selling point in mind.

I have a certain price in mind but while I hold it I just hope I could use it.

It feels like it is better if I can just use it to buy things that I wanted to not sell it for me to be able to use it. Either way, I would just reinvest most of that if that price was ever reached.

If ever this thing will again happen ,I would surely sell my holdings. I could also ait for its value to be higher but I won't for sure. Having a market value of as such is already something to be surprised of just like before and more likely, a dump will follow. If ever it will be higher, then it would be better but taking the assurance of the profit I think, would be the best thing to do since we have a volatile market value.

Others would say "I will not do anything but to hold". In my point of view, that will just be more of a gamble. Since we have no assurance of a higher market value, things could be worse. Also, I do not get the point of choosing to gamble it "all" that to play it safe. If you have experienced the "peak" last time, you probably get what I'm pointing out. And hopefully, we will again experience such thing someday if that won't be happening this year.

Well, for now, I can only think about holding, or using according to my needs. however, we didn't know the potential of bitcoin at the time. if bitcoin price hits another $ 20k this year or 2021, the real decision will probably be taken when bitcoin hits that price.

For sure, it can be decided once you already seeing the actual price, the hypes of 2017 makes a lots of people gain wealth from
this market. They get a lots of money out from holding and believing from this assets.

Maybe end of this year or the next following will be the test if we will see that range again.

You can still hold your bitcoin until the price can increase and touch more than $20k, at least the price should be at $25k-$30k, so you can sell it at that price. I am sure that you can make a lot of money if you can sell at that price, but you need to earn more bitcoin from now on to join the party in the future. While we don't know when that will happen, we can keep trying to earn more bitcoin, and we can have more time to save more bitcoin. I am sure you can also help your relatives and neighbors if you can make a big profit.

When bitcoin price reaches that price, it could something more to come and that will be the reason why I still commit to hold rather than to sell at that moment. Most of us are about to miss that price last 2017 but for sure people won't lose that opportunity again if ever it happens. But I don't put into the idea that I keep holding still then even though it keeps moving high, of course, I have to sell some of my holdings.

Others would say "I will not do anything but to hold". In my point of view, that will just be more of a gamble. Since we have no assurance of a higher market value, things could be worse.
Exactly, not we sure everything even in a few hours. If we have that chance, it is better to grab it but we should not also be in regrets if the price will still move higher.

I don't have a level on mind on which I'd sell. 20 thousand would be an important level for me at which I'd probably sell just a bit to have fun and drink to Bitcoin going much higher. I wouldn't sell 50% or 100% of my coins because it's my safe off-grid investment.

i'm sure it's different for each of us. If you by any chance take an important step in life like get married or have a child you could need the money and sell. Those of us who hold for retirement will not.

What will you do when Bitcoin reach$20k?
If we're going to be honest... then probably nothing, because I'm not confident enough in timing the market to either buy or sell at that particular price.

But if I was the kind of person to bet on this stuff, I think I'd consider buying a straddle option.

Given the history, I somehow doubt the price would stay at $20k for long - judging by past behavior of this market, I'd be more likely to expect that either there'd be a new ATH and bull would officially be back in season, or it'd "fail to break through" and a bunch of old money would push the price down by realizing their gains.

If I could find one at a reasonable price, a straddle seems like the right tool to make a bet on that outcome.

Do you have a price in mind than when bitcoin will reach it, only then you plan to sell?
This is a more interesting question.

I think it's a good idea; having a plan makes it easier to keep a level head in a volatile market like this.
But I think having a price in mind is not enough - deciding how much you will sell at that price is just as important.

I don't think it makes sense to have a price to sell 100% of your BTC at, if you are not here purely for trading. I used to post "current money or bust" a lot on these forums. These days, I'm less confident that BTC is shaped properly to become "current money" (i.e., something that circulates like cash and can be used as such), but the point still holds that nobody really knows what the future of this thing will be, so holding back a little of your stash "just in case" seems smart.

So barring emergencies, a better strategy is to say "at these prices, I'll sell these %s of my BTC", picking numbers such that it'll be "worth it" in your real life. For example, an amount that will let you FIRE (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/f/financial-independence-retire-early-fire.asp) without relying on future BTC gains. Or to put a down payment on a house, or so forth. Something concrete that the money will do to improve your life, above and beyond "well I guess I have a lot of USD now".

But that also means the amount isn't necessarily static! You'll have to adjust them if your IRL needs change, or the amounts necessary increase/decrease. And those adjustments must be kept independent of whatever the BTC market is doing; the point of a financial plan is to keep you from getting swept up in the market's emotions and doing something irrational.

That's my take, anyway.

I don't see the need to do anything when bitcoin reaches once again that price, and my reasoning is that once we get to that price there are only two things that can happen, people will panic thinking that a crash coming and that will make the price to go down or the price will keep going up and this will generate confidence in investors and will show them that this time things will be different and we will see a crazy price growth for bitcoin and as you may guess I want to be holding my coins when that happens.

It depends on many factors. If when bitcoin reaches $ 20k and is accepted as a currency in many countries, it is certain that the price of bitcoin will continue to rise, then I will hold my bitcoin and wait for the next price level.
If bitcoin goes up to $ 20k and it's still just as an investment as it is, then I would sell 50% of my bitcoins.

I always set myself a price to get out from, it is not that much most of the time but it is a cool amount that would get me to actually profit a bit and I could just try to get back in later when the price somehow bottoms once again eventually. It is not a quick method, you do not trade once every month, usually it is few times a year, but at the end of the day I do end up profiting, even if it is not a major profit and if it is very slow it is still a profit and I am fine with that.

I just wait for price to go down and wait for it to go up and that is it, it may not be as profitable as day trading but a guaranteed 50% profit a year is a lot better than risking all my money for potentially having 500% increase, it could end up losing me all my money and I rather not have that at all.

im just like you anyway . we are only small players and its hard for us to answer the question of the op because as a small player we wont wait for the price to reach 20k before we start selling our coins . 20k is already a dream amount for us and many things pop on our mind if what are we going to do , make it more harder to decide

For me, the market is really interesting even before this happened.

This year when the world is fearing the virus, the price of Bitcoin rose up to $10K, it may go down and we don't know if that is because of the pandemic or not but all we know is that the price is now at the run of maybe breaking another ATH. I will be waiting for some time but if the time is right, I will be doing the same and that also goes for other investors as well.

If the price of the bitcoin beat its previous ATH and make new ATH where it ls price already achieved $20k, I will do trailing stops. Trailing stop is part of risk management and its goal is to preserve the gains and the profit. I will only sell and close my position if there will be a breakdown in the daily chart because for me it is a sign of weakness and it indicates the trend is not valid anymore where it will transition into bearish.

Many predictions support my belief that Bitcoin will rise above $ 20,000 and this could happen as early as next year, if we adhere to the bull run after halving theory. But the really correct decision would be to minimize the risks if the market starts to roll back again, but in no case should you sell randomly.

That's a good idea considering that you are holding your assets before the current value,
selling the half and continue holding the other half will give you better chances to have a
break even in case the value falls back.

While if the value  continue to rise high, you still have the other half that will grow along the way,
it's always better to have a good set back  plans it will make things much easier once the time
comes and you need to decide.

I will sell half of my portfolio off if the price reaches $20K and continue to hodl the other half while waiting for another pump irrespective of the price behavior bullish or bearish all I need to do is to wait patiently the mistake of not selling some in the last ATH in 2017 had taught a lot of us lessons while some hodlers luckly sold off some of their coins then thus making a massive profits, bitcoin hodling is for strong-minded people not for feeble-minded ones who fumbles and sell off in any massive dump in it price.

That is a wise decision, not to sell all. No matter how price good is don't ever sell all your coins. There is always a chance for bigger and better profit to be made later and it's always good to have at least something in your portfolio to continue with and to invest and hold further to grow. That is lesson that I've learned on my own skin.

That is a gambling method and I would really assume that it would work on trading as well. Let's say you invest 1000 dollars and that becomes 2000 dollars, take out your 1000 dollars into fiat and just put it on savings account or whatever until you need it, and with the other 1000 dollars just keep on making profit if you can, even if you lose all of it, that means you are still not losing it because you withdrew your initial capital.

That is what I would assume that would work for the people if they want to give it a try, I have done similar things for a long time and it did really helped me a lot because thanks to that I was capable of both keep trading but also spending what I needed and never really had to either go all in or just take it all out, always one foot in and foot out.

The dominant emotion will be greed I'm sure with that especially if the Bitcoin reach $20K, people will except that the price will go up more and it will lead to them to hold more. I will also hold my bitcoin if it managed to break the current ATH in this current year. But still everything can happen so we should be careful and we should create a plan in different scenarios that may happen in order for us to be prepared in unexpected situations.

If the price reached it expect that there will be a lot of speculations that will uploaded in different communities where it will create hype not only here in the forum but all over the social media platforms. There is a high chance that it can attract more investors that can boost and lead to the increased of the momentum of the bitcoin.

If you buy low and sell high will you buy or sell at 20 thousand? Will it be low or high?

The answer isn't as simple as most people think. When Bitcoin broke 1000 dollars for the second time that 1000 from being an all time high became the starting point of another bubble and years later we see that we've never even come close to going back there. So we can say that the ATH of 2013 became the no entry zone after the next halving and remained like that for another 3 years.

I think there is no need to risk it, just thing of your bitcoin purchase as 100% of your portfolio, you may have other stuff but we are focusing on bitcoin part here.

Let's say you have 1 bitcoin to make things easier to understand as well. It reaches 17k? Sell 0.1 bitcoin. It reaches 19k? Sell another 0.1 bitcoin. It reaches 20k? Sell another 0.1, and just like that keep on going up the way you want, it could be each 1k, it could be each 2k, it could be each resistance point broken, basically you decide when but instead of buying all together all at once and selling all together all at once, I am a big firm believer that people should be buying while going down slowly, and people should be selling while it is going up slowly, just to make sure they have an average instead of all in or out.

you will not be overwhelmed by that strategy and will keep you grounded. as for me, ill just do the same from what i was doing before. just sell what is needed and keep my other stash still in btc. usually, i encash my btc when i needed it like have to pay my bills or something comes up. so what im trying to say is, even if we reach at 20k, i still have the same lifestyle as before. been there in that price level before. so nothing extraordinary on my end.

After the two previous halvings, we’ve seen the price reach an all-time high, if such happens again to be honest, taking profit will be the first thing that comes to my mind and I will definitely do so, from my experience in last bull run when bitcoin hits $20k, lots of altcoin were down before moving up, if such happens again, I will look for solid, projects and buy their dips.  :)

I guess this is a normal strat.

To be honest, even before hitting $10K I've been thinking this for a while now, and seeing your post about this, I realized that not all of the people are just not considering Bitcoin to reinvest(it will still be my main one) but also other cryptocurrencies as well. I have some altcoins in mind and one of them is Ethereum which is said that might pump because something is coming.

If BTC price gets to 20k and keeps this price as stable, selling just dollars and holding them wont be the best choice likely because dollar has demonstrated some problems with retaining value.     The proper way to manage large asset gains would be through rebalancing a portfolio to receive profits and redistribute risk without losing all future growth, theres a whole study of management that would probably be relevant to read up on if people were really so lucky to be this successful.   Its quite likely the dollar has suffered some kind of failure if BTC never stops rising, I dont believe the world moves in isolation and BTC price moves but everyone else stands like a statue and lets it happen.    So I'd recommend holding a series of asset types dont just switch from BTC cash into dollar cash or other FIAT as this could just raise tax issues without being a great benefit.  Money is security, ultimately we are going to see value based on each currencies ability to provide that security and stability across the globe so all kinds of commodities relate to that.

You sell, you lose your bitcoin.
It might feel good having a lot of USD in your wallet but think about it. What's next?

Do you know when the price will go down again to buy it back? Will it ever dump? What if not.
Those questions that will make one person doubt to sell it.

Plus, we haven't even seen the adolescent stage of Bitcoin yet.  ;D

Its active trading and its totally different when you do held up on a certain price point that you had bought back when its still cheap. Long term holds and active trade is totally different when you do mention about price action. What to do when bitcoin reach 20k? you'll normally sell when you had bought cheap but if you do deal with moving price then price level wont really be an issue since you can trade up on no matter what the price.
The question is, have you able to buy when the price is still cheap?

To be honest I am out of bitcoin now. LOL. But what I have I would like to sell them when I will see that same bullish market like 2017-2017. So as most of the trader thought 20k is the best price for selling.
I also think like that. when I will see bitcoin already reach to 17k-20k $. I will sell them and wait for re-buy when price will make corrections.

When it hits $20k I'll start getting excited as that probably means it'll be close to $100k in the next 6 months to a year. I sure hope nobody would be dumb enough to sell when it hits $20k, that'd be like selling at $1000 in 2017 haha.

That was a very optimistic mate because even we have the Bullrun this year or even next year, it is really hard to achieve that price. I'm not actually a bearish person but I'd never think that was close possible to happen.

I know the market is unpredictable but it never looks like that in a real situation. I'd rather have to think for $50k than thinking for $50k because it finds unrealistic.

Anyway, I'd respect your opinion and everyone could make his own, maybe I was not a very optimistic person far different from you. ;D

When that time comes I'm going to keep watching the market and the reason for that is that particular level is going to be critical for bitcoin, if that price is reached there is the possibility that many people decide to begin to sell their coins because they are afraid that the price will begin to go down, not realizing that their actions themselves are going to be one of the main reasons why the price begins to go down.

However if bitcoin can surpass that level then you better prepare yourself because the market will skyrocket and there is no telling how high it will go this time around.

Holders have different mindset some of them will sell or some already sold and some will still hodl thinking that Bitcoin and other altcoins will still have more to give or reach another all time high, everybody made a profit in bull run but those who bought on the floor or when Bitcoin hits the floor and still hodling are the one are jumping in joy.

Everyone will do the same to buy bitcoin when the price drops and sell it when the price rises on target and is profitable.
but sometimes this desire is not in accordance with reality because the price of bitcoin can change suddenly, and making a long-term investment in bitcoin is the most appropriate choice because it is not affected by the movement of bitcoin when it falls and is just waiting for the bitcoin price to rise high to sell it back even though have to wait a long time.
and in my opinion, the current bitcoin movement tends to increase even though it is slow and there is a possibility that it will continue to rise slowly until it reaches the highest price, let's see it until the end of this year and hopefully as expected.

Undoubtedly, when Bitcoin prices reach historic highs, many ordinary investors will sell their coins in order to make big money thanks to the prevailing circumstances in the market. But I am confident that there will come a time when no Bitcoin owner will sell their BTC to get a lot of fiat money. Perhaps already in the near future, Bitcoin will reach its historical maximum and be stable, which will lead to the fact that Bitcoin will be used not only as a valuable asset, but also as a safe haven for their savings.

This is not out of the realm of possibility, but we will need very specific circumstances for that to happen, in short we will need that people lose confidence in fiat currencies and they look for a store of value, many will use gold as a way to protect themselves but many will use cryptocurrencies especially bitcoin to try to reach the same effect, at that point people will begin to use bitcoin as a currency as most likely the inflation that we will be suffering will be skyhigh.

And as such no one will want to get rid of their bitcoin however I'm not so sure this scenario is going to last that long because at some point governments will do something to try to stabilize their currencies and then people will go back and adopt currencies backed by governments once again.

you'd have to check the chart first before doing anything or else you will lose opportunity. reaching up to $20k doesn't mean its also the peak this time. The market has changed a lot and $20K is not like its the ATH still. Speculations tells us it could be $100K so you better not sell because if this is adoption in the process, it would be hard to tell which one is the overbought level.

I might just hold still just as I did since the past bullrun. If I experience the long bear marketcap again then so be it.

a good decision if you sell it when it is making a profit...

I think we should wait and see exactly what results next year Bitcoin will show after the 2020 halving , given the results of the first two halvings. Given the above, I would not want to sell Bitcoin when the price reaches $ 20,000, as Bitcoin can run significantly higher.

As for me, it really depends on my situation at that moment. If I need the money badly, I guess I will sell but if not, I will hold as long as I can. For as I believe in bitcoin, and its capability to rise in the next coming years, it is better to hold as long as I can. But that is my take on this situation. But it depends on everyone's priorities. Decide on your own and follow your instincts.

First if you invest money here that you can risk losing meaning amount that is not part of your expected money to lose?then these problem will never occur.
Holding Bitcoin is the best way to make money here, though you need to let go od the capital and just wait for the target price for selling.
In this case you will save your self from stress and you will save your eagerness when there is a sudden fall.

This is the most question if btc reach $20k we don't know yet if that's the Ath or the peak price. We can sell some and continue to hold. Well, we have different moves on what to do on our bitcoin once it reaches high in the market. As long as you earn profit it is good for having bitcoin.

Not all bitcoin holder's can afford to hold if they saw already that market reaches its peak, they surely sell it and buy again once it drops. Hope you will keep your words and not be like the others who easily got into FOMO once they saw the price tends to drop after reaching ATH.

For sure I was guilty of this (selling when the market is high), but I want assurance and I don't want to miss the chance again as it happens last 2017.

$20k worth of Bitcoin is pretty much decent number I'd say there's a chance that I would sell a couple of it while the rest will still be kept. I still planning to accumulate more Bitcoins and hold it because I do believe that it will grow even more compared to that price. I once experience that $20k worth of Bitcoin and for me, it was a really big profit for me way back then it really fired me up and sell some of it. Learn to enjoy your earning sometimes.

There will always be a correction during the all-time highs. Set yourself and don't be caught too greedy if that happens so you can sell at the right time.

And if it starts to correct, you will have a budget to spend on buying at lower prices. Rinse and repeat the strategy and you can make quite a considerable amount from it.

For me it is also unrealistic, that kind of prediction are creating hype not only in the forum but in every crypto community. Why would you predict that the price can go up like that if the current price is still consolidating at the $11,000 levels. The bull run is currently happening and the price is continuing to grow but it is not good to expect that the price can go up $50,000 or more easily because remember that there are area of value that the price should overcome it and there are a lot of resistances ahead.

I don't have an exact price in my mind where I want to sell my coin, after seeing how Bitcoin performs during the pandemic I've planned to Hodl as many as I can just praying that I will not be in an emergency situation, where I have to trade my coins , I'm on accumulation stage I trust Bitcoin more than ever because of how they recover after the news of pandemic broke out, other markets are still struggling.

Depend on our own desire about the investment we put here.

Like those Long time holder who holds for like about more years?specifically those who Bought Bitcoin in early 2010 to 2017 when the Bullrun happens?some of them becomes instant Millionaire or even Billionaire as well.
But if your main target is to double or triple your money then Buy now and sell when 20,000 reached the price.

The market goes up and down and there's always opporunity when it goes down and when it goes up, I don't have exact price on when I want to sell my shares, I sold it everytime I have 2 to 5% profit because there's always opportunity again when the market goes down again, the only problem is the time, sometimes it took a lot of time to make profit, you need to be patient to sell at the most profitable time.
