Title: Can someone help a noob with an Electrum problem
Post by: Bradpod on August 05, 2020, 08:01:51 PM
I attempted to send bitcoin from my Electrum account, but the coins in the Electrum account were cash. It now shows sent & the money is gone from my account. The recipient is of course showing the transaction, but it's showing zero received. Can someone help me? Can I cancel the transaction? Is there anything I can do to get the coins back?

Can you tell us a bit more? You had BTC and BCH on the address and sent one but both balances are gone? Is that what you mean by "cash?

Can you post the transaction ID or one of the addresses in the transaction?

This need more explanation. But if I get you right, you set the balance to display dollar, if so, you can press on the balance to display the fiat you set but only bitcoin is stored on electrum, electrum can only display bitcoin in fiats but if you press on the balance back, you will see your balance in bitcoin again.

The recipient is of course showing the transaction, but it's showing zero received.
If the transaction that has not been confirmed show on recipient wallet, it may not appear yet on the balance, there are many wallets that does not work like electrum that will display the transaction not yet confirmed, the recepient use wallet that only display the balance when the transaction is completely mined. Do not be confused.

Can I cancel the transaction? Is there anything I can do to get the coins back?
So far it is zero confirmation, you can still cancel the transaction, but you do not need this. I will like you to send the transaction id as pixie85 said so that we can track it for you. Maybe you use little amount of fee for the transaction, let us check this first and give you appropriate advice.

Can you try to post the transaction ID(TXID) here and then tell us which address that you currently used on the Electrum wallet and the address if where you sent the BTC.

Let us check first and maybe the transaction is not yet confirmed or it might be sent to a different BTC address.

Can I ask if where did you download the Electrum wallet you used? And maybe you currently using a fake Electrum wallet which is an old issue.

If ever you use a fake Electrum wallet there's no way to recover the BTC if it is already confirmed but if it's not you can make a double-spend transaction where you can send it to your wallet with the higher fee than the first transaction.

If this was the issue, he/she wouldn't need to attempt sending for the coins to be stolen, the scammers would already have access to the private keys/seed phrase used in importing or creating the address and can perform the action directly.
OP would need to provide more information regarding the transaction as has been suggested by other members, if you didn't make any mistake you should be able to recover the funds or hasten the transaction so it gets to the recipient.

Before using Bitcoin and transacting independently one should do lots of research and become quite familiar with it, as most errors made using Bitcoin cannot be corrected.

^ We need more clarification by OP, first we need to see the TXID if where the coins landed, probably that was a delay transaction that shows zero balance but the unconfirmed is going to his Electrum wallet. If the recipient's address was right, there is nothing to worry about. But if OP mystically writes/input a wrong recipient probably he was scammed. Please show us your receiving address and where it come from. Nevertheless, if that is already confirmed, there's nothing we can do just to move on. A bitcoin transaction is irreversible.

I don't see the cancel button once it is already hit the send button. Because in the first place, it was ask there to check the address and a non-reversible transaction warning. However, it is to understand that it wasn't clear with you that thing and can possibly cause you to get a mistake since you are a newbie. But to be sure what is really happening with that TX, better to post the TX ID so we/someone could take a look at it and sees where it goes or it is still unconfirmed that is why it never arrived at your wallet. That is also a common thing it happens this time especially when you are just paying small sats on it.

If you're talking about a transaction being unconfirmed then you can use RBF to bump the fee if you have enough balance or you can try double spending the coins you sent.

Yes, you can't cancel the transaction once it is already sent. And sometimes it will take time to reflect in your electrum wallet that it was sent already. If you have the transaction you can check it in blockchair (https://blockchair.com/) to see if it already got confirmation or not or check its priority in mempool.

Also, what site did you download your electrum wallet? Did you check in the Send tab -Outgoing payments, what does it say?

The transaction has already confirmed. There is nothing you can do to reverse it. You should try to figure out where the 1F5L4b317FPYa4ptchTNqS7ejmtmqKZb7U address came from. If it's from an exchange the recepient will need to contact support to have their account credited. If it's from their personal wallet then they might need to restart their wallet app to have the amount reflected in their balance. If you copied the wrong address or were somehow tricked into sending to the wrong address then it is gone forever.

As per reviewing your transaction ID. The amount of bitcoin you have sent to this address 1F5L4b317FPYa4ptchTNqS7ejmtmqKZb7U has been succesfully received and is showing the balance of 0.10312482 BTC. There is nothing to worry about not receiving what you have sent unless there is a confirmation of the other person that the bitcoin is not reflecting on his/her wallet.

Also, cryptocurrency transaction are irreversible meaning you can't cancel the broadcasted tx once it has been confirmed on the bitcoin network.

~snip~

The BTC already sent to this address 1F5L4b317FPYa4ptchTNqS7ejmtmqKZb7U
If you don't have control of this Bitcoin address you can't be able to recover them back your device might be infected with copy/paste that's why it sent to an unknown Bitcoin address.

Can you tell us the name of the wallet(That supposed to be in your wallet) if its another 3rd party wallet or you sent it to another Electrum wallet? Or you sent it to trading/exchange site?

If it's exchanges you can contact their support and report your issue.

I hope that you can give more details about your issue if you want to solve this case, we're not a fortune-teller to guess your issue.

I attempted to send bitcoin from my Electrum account, but the coins in the Electrum account were cash.

Cash? Bitcoin cash, or what do you mean? Please clarify.

It now shows sent & the money is gone from my account.

Yes, that's how transactions work.
You send something, it gets deducted from your wallet. That's expected behavior.

The recipient is of course showing the transaction, but it's showing zero received.

How can he see a transaction but receiving nothing?
Could you clarify this please?

Can I cancel the transaction? Is there anything I can do to get the coins back?

No.

Your transaction got confirmed.
Is the receiving address the wrong one? Or what exactly is the issue?
