Title: Why most people think Bitcoin is a scam?
Post by: Abiky on August 07, 2020, 09:28:31 PM
Bitcoin has been around for 11 years now, with a large ecosystem of exchanges, wallet providers, and apps behind it. There are now many governments recognizing it as legitimate, bringing a large number of investors into it. For just a short amount of time since its inception, I'd say that Bitcoin has achieved extraordinary results. While all of this sounds good, most people still seem to believe that Bitcoin is a scam or not worth their time. For instance, Warren Buffet criticizes Bitcoin telling that it'll become "worthless" over time. It's these negative comments, which make people skeptical about using Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies as serious money for day-to-day payments.

No matter how crypto enthusiasts try to convince people to believe that Bitcoin is legitimate, everything seems to be the same. I'm starting to wonder why most people have this kind of mentality towards Bitcoin? After all, the pioneer cryptocurrency is being traded at legitimate exchanges. Even some governments have been collecting taxes from Bitcoin. But that hasn't changed people's minds about it. What are your thoughts? ???

What do you mean by "Most People" ?? Do you refer to most btc users or to people in general?
Your opinion seems not to be based on a valid reason.
In general, negative comments came from govs and bankers who are negatively infected by bitcoin. However, many of them start accepting it and even legalise it.
Bitcoin is unstoppable and maintained by its users, not like traditional currencies controlled by a single authority. And if we compare it to Dollars for instance, dollar currency is the biggest scam in humain history, although we are stucked in and we can't really change it.
Even the one you mentioned doesn't confirm that bitcoin is a scam when he says "will become worthless", which is a general prediction without any solid reason.

In my opinion, most people don't think Bitcoin is a scam, I've attended seminars and talked to a number of people about it and I was mostly met with enthusiasm and interest in understanding it. People who see bitcoin as a scam are those who would consider anything which is different from their norm as a scam and not necessarily Bitcoin itself. As for those that spread FUDs, I would believe they actually know better, but due to personal interest they try to criticize it.

One limitation I have identified overtime is that most people consider Bitcoin's technology too complicated to be understood without background knowledge on such stuffs

In short "You cant please everyone" even people do able to see on what bitcoin had achieved but still they do put up into their minds that it cant still be trusted and do still remain to trust up
fiat in the end of the day.So what would be the solution? better just ignore and just free up yourself on stress on trying to convince someone to believe on bitcoins benefits or actual usage.
They'll surely realize in the end that they should have entered the market earlier and do regret for the rest of their lives on being behind in talks of profitability aspects.
Just let them be and the most important thing that adoption is on the move and us supporters do know its importance.

Nope, Bitcoin enthusiasts never think that Bitcoin is a scam. Otherwise, you don't also blame those people who didn't know Bitcoin and thinking it is a scam. The disadvantage of Bitcoin is prone to scam and those people don't know how Bitcoin works this may they will think, a scam. The problem is, people don't understand the technical stuff behind Bitcoin and how it works. Once they will be educated on it, they will figure out that they are thinking wrong.

As of now, there's nothing we can do. If we have friends thinking like this way towards Bitcoin, let's explain to them and educate them on how Bitcoin works and how to avoid scam using Bitcoin. Don't let their first glance on Bitcoin think that it is a scam.

Hello to all. This problem is related to fraud, which causes irreparable damage to the reputation of the entire cryptocurrency community. There are still many more people in need in the world - they do not have time to delve into the problems of the cryptoindustry, many of whom today have nothing to eat. They draw their knowledge from the news, and the news at the moment is only negative. When the main population of the planet receives some kind of financial privileges closely related to Bitcoin, only then will the attitude towards cryptocurrencies begin to change. Negative labels are hung up instantly, but it takes years to get rid of them.

in short, a lot of these people are drawing conclusions based from the media or from what they hear from others. ignorance is the source of this misconception. if those people will try to sit down and learn more about crypto, they will change their outlook towards crypto or blockchain. however, as you said many of them don't have the luxury or the privilege to dwell on this matter - like reading about crypto and educating themselves about the true benefits of blockchain. they have more pressing matters on hand. so it is a matter of time when they will recognize what advantages of bitcoin or crypto will bring to their lives. just dont push them to the edge, it will come naturally.

I don't agree to say that "MOST PEOPLE". One or two persons leave bitcoin because they think about it is a scam that never represents the whole community that it will think the same. Besides, if we can see the number of crypto users and holders, definitely you can tell that more people had come into Bitcoin rather than to see them leaving.

Saying that this Bitcoin is a scam is just an assumption because they are a victim into scamming but that is their fault instead and not because of Bitcoin but because they are greedy to be fooled into scammer's trick.

People who think that Bitcoin is a scam are a small minority. Even your example Warren Buffet actually thinks that Bitcoin is a bad investment because it can't be fundamentally analyzed like he used to with stocks. He no longer says that it's a ponzi scheme.

It's true that Bitcoin isn't very popular and most people don't want to invest in it or use it as a currency, but it's for other reasons like volatility and being hard to use. If many people believed that Bitcoin is a scam, they would more vocal against it, calling to ban it, for example. We don't see this happening.

You should really show us some surveys or something to prove that most people think it's a scam.

From what I see most people don't understand it and they don't know what to say when asked about Bitcoin so they look for something they can associate with it.
Usual responses?
-you mean that money of hackers?
-the currency on silk road where that guy wanted to pay for a murder with it?
-that Internet money some hacker created?
-the money terrorists were using?

Not many good things appear in the news. Usualliy it's hackers demanded Bitcoin, bitcoin ransomware and so on.

The reason why they think Bitcoin is a scam is because of how these so-called gurus introduced Bitcoin to them.

Unfortunately, there are some investors who are just ignorant or lets just say average Joe who are just living without any investments and suddenly he saw an investment that is related to Bitcoin. Sadly, what he saw is some kind of a networking scam where Bitcoin has been used to scam people. These Joe attracted into this investment and invested his money hoping that he will earn in a short amount of time since most of the scams are like this. Invest xX amount and it will double in XX amount of days.

Bitcoin has been introduced into different people the wrong way instead of the correct way. Fortunately for me, I didn't learn Bitcoin the wrong way since I made some research when I'm still learning it but unfortunately for some investors.

Probably because of it having no backing? The idea of money that has a value of which they have no idea where it came from is quite foreign. I think they refuse to accept the idea that it came from the supply and demand of Bitcoin, and even if they did, they'd be asking, why is there a demand for it? or something like that. Well, that, and how Bitcoin has been pretty much introduced by quite a few as a negative idea, as well as the government pushing for the negative opinion of it at times.

Though most of them are just pretty ignorant of how Bitcoin works tbh. That, and yea, Bitcoin isn't a scam simply because it's just a medium. If you get scammed, blame yourself, not Bitcoin. Most people refuse to acknowledge they got fooled on after all, so they tend to blame other stuff. Seeing as they aren't on the know of what Bitcoin is, they think they can put the blame onto it. The idea of Bitcoin being a scam because someone introduced Bitcoin to you back then is already an idea of the past after all.

Because they heard about dome scams which have been done with bitcoin or they have heard about hack where bitcoin was demanded. In my country, the very basic idea about bitcoin is- it is way of earning money, it is a darkweb currency. I doubt this people ever had any investigation other than hearing one or two times about bitcoin.

Why? Because they are ignorant. They prefer staying away from the truth which led them to believed that Bitcoin is a "scam" or "worthless". Others do understand Bitcoin but still insist on calling it worthless to promote their own agenda.

Still, the people who have knowledge of Bitcoin and its adoption is increasing each year. Sooner or later, more and more people are going to use Bitcoin as it is being develop to be more user-friendly and being regulated to be accepted in different parts of the world.

Most people have no idea about Bitcoin, and only a small percent of people call it the scam. Why? The main reason is the lack of knowledge about the first crypto.

For just a short amount of time since its inception, I'd say that Bitcoin has achieved extraordinary results.
Definitely, it has. For something to stagger and rattle age long fiat within a short while is a phenomenal thing. So, naturally the old order would want to talk down on any competition. That was what happened in the past with financial organizations calling Bitcoin a scam to divert people's attention and interest away. But so far so good, that hasn't really worked as planned. Bitcoin still has a great community and following. BTW, Warren Buffet may be financially powerful but I like to think and see him as just ONE individual, not as some people.

usually when many famous people say bad things about bitcoin, that's when people will know what bitcoin is, of course it can also encourage a few percent of those people to become bitcoin investors, so things like this are common, we should know something bad things don't necessarily result in something bad, it could be something good even if it's just a little bit, bitcoin is not a scam because it's just a tool

Title: Re: Why most people think Bitcoin is a scam?

The reason it is considered a scam by many is ignorance as stated by another member above. Once the same people find out that Bitcoin has the most robust security and understand the purpose of decentralization they change their mind.

After finding how it works it might be more of a threat to certain entities as banks so their CEOs come out and talk about Bitcoin being a scam while buying some just in case.

Then the governments see it as a threat as their plan is the national currency which they can easily control. An autonomous currency is not what a government wants. They want control. So while no government has labeled Bitcoin a scam, they still do not favor it. Since CBDCs are on their way I'm expecting a more negative stance on Bitcoin.

This is a Catch-22 situation for bitcoin and us supporters. Everyone wants adoption and for people to realize that it is a technology supported by enthusiasts as well as the professionals the world over. Like every other technology, its usage depends on the user. Realizing this needs a certain level of awareness as well as technical know-how which you cannot expect out of most people. Majority of people know just one thing. That if they can anonymously send money then that money will be used for ulterior purposes. This makes people uncomfortable.

Couple this with the fact that you cannot cite a single authoritative figure or institution as standing behind bitcoin. This is something that people normally want. When they don't find it, the natural conclusion is that it is some grey area which is filled with potential danger. Hence, scam. Now with big exchanges resorting to KYC and conforming to regulation, this perception will slowly change. For that, bitcoin proponents have to accept that "KYC at exchanges is good". This is antithetical to the privacy benefits.

The big so called cryptocurrency project that organized seminars etc are Ponzi scheme like the likes of the very first which was MMM , zardfund and currently forsage and Lionshare.

Although not all uses bitcoin, some used ethereum still it paint a bad image to the bitcoin community since when cryptocurrency are highlighted bitcoin is the most famous and ones dey get scammed in other cryptocurrency business they linked it to bitcoin saying "they're are scams". The media houses too aren't helping matter as they're constantly painting the currency bad always overemphasizing cryptoscam news.

Non tech savvy people are always skeptical about "internet stuff".That's why I don't talk about Bitcoin around  older people. They simply won't understand anything and think it's a scam.
If you were an old non tech savvy person and some young guy was preaching about a digital currency that isn't backed by anything and you can sell that currency and buy real goods and services, would you believe him?I don't think so.
You are wrong about "most people" thinking that Bitcoin is a scam. Most people don't know anything about Bitcoin and don't care about Bitcoin.

Many "Bitcoin haters" see it as a Ponzi scheme, so without doing any research or understanding what Bitcoin really is, they accused it being a scam.  Aside from that, there are lots of criminal due to the "decentralized" nature of BTC exploited it and use the name Bitcoin to scam lots of investors.

The answer is very simple, because only few people know about bitcoin, hence, we can expect that those who does not know bitcoin will think that bitcoin is a scam since it's generating wealth to some investors. According to study.   How Many People Use Bitcoin in 2020? (https://www.bitcoinmarketjournal.com/how-many-people-use-bitcoin/#:~:text=A%20survey%20conducted%20by%20the,percent%20hold%20the%20digital%20currency.)

Let's use americans as an example as they are one of the biggest holders of bitcoin, and based on figure, it only says 5%, so that 95% will say bitcoin is scam or some might not give comment, but still at that rate comparison, we know already the answer.
Quote
5 Percent of Americans Hold Bitcoin
A survey conducted by the Global Blockchain Council and SurveyMonkey that was taken by 5,000 Americans found that 60 percent of Americans have heard of bitcoin and that around five percent hold the digital currency.

If you would extrapolate that to the entire U.S. population, that would mean that an estimated 16 million Americans have invested in bitcoin.

Generally, people might label bitcoin as a scam because they are not very familiar from it, they knew nothing about it. Maybe they have heard about bitcoin from someone who were not able to explain more about it, and it made them think that bitcoin isn't trustworthy.
Probably some of them have been victim of frauds from people who used bitcoin to fool others.
Movies and some known personalities also affects someone's view about bitcoin.

Very true! I guess each countries has this kind of individuals who deceives people to believe that investing Bitcoin through their company is very profitable and gives a promising return. This is where they start to suspect that Bitcoin is a kind of scam.
Same scenario just happened in the PH last year when a lot of ponzi schemes came show up and become a trend to most of the people in the middle class. These companies and groups made them believe they're an experienced crypto and forex traders that could make volumes of profit consistently. It turns out to be a scam on the latter.
Now, people still didn't learn from their mistakes and are willing to become a victim again with this "forsage" eth scam this time.

From the beginning, all good discoveries have overcome various obstacles. So, the same goes for bitcoin as well. Few people will think its Ponzi or scam, but eventually, they will be forced to believe in bitcoin when they will realize how bitcoin is recognizing. We can't stop their mouth right now, and we have to build more strong community worldwide.

Even my country's administration thinks that bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme. Besides there, there are lots of bitcoin lover like me who believe bitcoin is a future currency which would rule the digital currency world. Who doesn't believe in bitcoin, simply they aren't aware of bitcoin technology & potentiality. Hope the world will tech them once a time.

From my point of view, we could not change other people's perspectives towards bitcoin because not all of them are really interested to buy bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies due to false news that bitcoin is all about scam and fraud, and only a waste of time and money. It is why we should ignore other people's opinion about bitcoin because it will not benefit us or make us rich.

People who think that bitcoin is a scam is not understood about bitcoin. They say that because after people buy bitcoin, the price goes down, even the price is finally down too deep, and not increase and back to the last price they purchased. After the price is stable at that price for some time, and not show any sign to grow back, they will say that bitcoin is a scam, and the price will not increase. But they are wrong because bitcoin is stronger, and bitcoin can back to the last higher price, and even bitcoin price will break another highest price.

But today, as many people already educate themselves by learning more about bitcoin, they will not say that bitcoin is a scam. And if bitcoin price now is not increasing, they will still wait for more, and they will try to make more bitcoin from the other coins so that they can have more bitcoin in the end.

There are three main reason. First one is because of the many fake ICO/IEO and crypto scammers in crypto world abuse this technology that makes some newbies think negative about bitcoin while they don't have enough information. The second reason is because many investing projects and new technologies was made to empty their pockets out of money that's why they have usually trust issues about any new financial technology. Also, since Bitcoin was made to always be decentralized for some people it's not acceptable since they say there exactly is my money right now, etc... In short worlds, lack of knowledge is the main reason.

And also bitcoin is not been explained by media very well so many unknowledgeable guys will think that its a related scam towards on those schemes, so maybe we need a proper education on what bitcoin and cryptocurrency really is since if this technology will remain hidden to the other people for sure we will continue see people doubting about this.

the negative mentality towards bitcoin is most likely because of all the scam related to bitcoin that has been shown on the mainstream media and or because they are ignorant about bitcoin. but just like what @meliwilda said "you can't please everyone". people have different opinions on different things. it is good if you, or we, try to explain what bitcoin is but just because we explained it carefully to someone we can't expect that, that person or everyone we explained it to, will agree to us even if they understood what bitcoin is.

What I think is some people probably heard bitcoin through news related to scamming, hacking, fraud, and such that's why when they hear bitcoin, they had this thinking already build on their minds that it's a scam. What I mean is, when people lack deep knowledge about a certain thing, they just believe in what they know even if it's not true because they are not interested at all.

It's not really easy to convince people when they already think bitcoin is a scam. Also, it takes a lot of time and effort to teach those what really bitcoin is, and like what I said, not everyone is interested that's why they just stick to what they believe.

~snip~

If we start from the fact that most people who have heard of Bitcoin do not really understand what it is really about, we should not be surprised that the prevailing opinion is that it is some kind of Internet scam. It is very easy to understand and accept how the monetary system works, it is something we learn as children - we get money from parents and grandparents, and we quickly realize how important it is in life.

Bitcoin is something completely new and revolutionary, and the complete opposite of what we have today - and that system is of course defended by people like Buffett who is very influential because he is rich, and people admire him for that and the way he got rich. Although Bitocin has been around for 11 years, we can’t escape the fact that it only became famous after what happened in late 2017, so we could actually take that as the moment it became planetary popular.

I think that "most people" as you put it, are those people who have a mediocre attitude to bitcoin. They have never delved into the topic of trading and cryptocurrency in General. perhaps they once bought bitcoin on a common HYIP and failed on this and now have this opinion about the entire cryptocurrency as a whole. Isn't it the same division when people look at their government.
Others will agree but some will not.

I always looked at how people think about bitcoin like that.
They have their opinions. I respect that.
But, giving them an idea is a good step forward. We don't need to force it to them. Somehow they will bump into something where it would make them interested with Bitcoin.
Or, after talking to them, a chance they will do their research.

Apparently, you don't have to worry 'bout them all the time. As long as you did your part convincing 'em about the possibilities this industry has, then I think, that is more than enough ;). You cannot persuade everybody here specially those dubious as long as they're not willing to take risk or even try at least some stuff here.

Usually people think that Bitcoin scams because most countries in the world have not legalized Bitcoin, the number of crypto
projects in circulation mostly scams and still a few merchants that accept Bitcoin payments. All the things I've mentioned
make up some people think that Bitcoin is a scam.
To sum up, this answers all:
The conclusion is that there are still many people who lack information regarding Bitcoin.
Because usually, they're heading out to faulty generalization since bitcoin is commonly tied up to scammy activities.

Its because they dont understand the uses and worth of bitcoin. Some people are not aware of how it really works and they just simply rely to the news. But sometimes if the report is against btc they will believe on it so they had a mindset that its just a scam. Like what happened here in our country, there's a certain report of how scammers used btc to scam people. They use it as a tool to take advantage others who are eager to earn. So despite of the growing community of crypto enthusiasts, its not unusual to see those against bitcoin.

IMO, it is because of misinformation that people are spreading about the issues of cryptocurrency. They said that "don't judge the book by its cover" , it is not only applicable to us humans,, it is applicable to anything that has a good and bad quality. People are only looking on the bad sides of the bitcoin but not the fact that it can help them grow in their investments. I don't know why people are settling with that bad information only where they make their mindset become negative towards cryptocurrency. Scams only happens when you are not aware about your assets, about the information that you see in social media, and about those people who you have transaction with. As soon as possible, keep yourself from those kinds of ignorance towards bitcoin and investments, that will not help you grow.

Some people who make a bad rumor about bitcoin are those people who hates bitcoin.

They are making false information that bitcoin can easily be scammed, can easily be stolen, and not for those people who are not aware. But that's not true, bitcoin is safe and secured if you are aware about those scamming. Scams are easy to determine so it is not really a problem, you can report it if you find one.

Also the reason why people are thinking that bitcoin is a scam, it is because it is not an easy money and you need patience and good control in order to grow with it.

That is because they are blinded enough to see the true potentiality of this technology for now and the near future. Think about how they are brag into such blindness because others say but they never have a try on it. If we could just rely on (bad) news and scam accusations against crypto, they generally think that Bitcoin is no use at all but just a scam ads.

Well, it hopes that they could take a look inside and not just by seeing the outside. We can only justify that this technology is worth nothing if we can have a try on it.

I think they can not open their mind to learn about new technology, which can bring them a new way of making money. They say about the bad thing related to bitcoin because they don't like bitcoin. But some others will say a bad thing about bitcoin because they want to make the market is down, so they can use that chance to buy bitcoin at a low price. We don't need to listen to them because bitcoin is not a scam, and we believe that bitcoin can help us get the new way to make money.

Except you fully understand what bitcoin is and its functionality, you will never understand why it is not a scam. Majority of the people jump into know bitcoin as a means of making quick profit but fails to understand the pros and cons. If you are new into trading, and you lost a lot of money and become frustrated, you will end up making the same statement unless you understand beyond crypto but rather the blockchain technology. Some people that invested in an HYIP that pays in bitcoin but get scam will also call bitcoin scam

We don't see this happening.

i do agree with this guy

for the thread starter

bro every single think have pros and cons, i mean yeah there's people outside that talk not just bitcoin, all crypto is scam especially people who are first try the bitcoin and scammed before, whenever is scammed from friend hyip program etc. Or the people who likely just follow the trend without knowing more. In my country itself there is dozen of hoax news(*not crypto news) and there's some people still trust it.

and one or two people who's not know about the technology much, his barely cant operate his phone well. and you tell them about revolutionary "cryptocurrency" the first thougt come to his mind is the coin are not real they are not exist i can't touch it in real world. But people will change his mind when you give them reall money made from the crypto it self. Trust me  ;D ;D ;D

this actually happen in my family member my dad my mom can't even operate the android  :D
my brother too  :o but after i made small profit from this they are believe  8)

so IMO if you want to tell someone about crypto you must tell them how they work, and show ur result/proof, it can be phone that are you buying with bitcoin, bills you'r pay with bitcoin  or the money you can generate at monthly basis. Thats it.People will more trust about it.   ::) 8) ;D :D

Along with the scam news, there was a lot of news going in the past about the relation of bitcoins with darknet marketplaces and how that money was used to support money laundering and finally terrorism, but the news stations never say that Fiat is used for money laundering and financing terrorism. The image of bitcoin is tainted in the eyes of the public and the government also never miss any chance they get to keep the tainted image of bitcoin intact in the eyes of the public. There are a lot of hacks that are going online and there aren't any big news on TV about those hacks, but when bitcoin gets involved then everyone has to report these hacks and specifying BITCOIN in each sentence.

Even though Bitcoin is 11 years old, many people don't understand Bitcoin, so many people (not users) think of Bitcoin is a scam, because:
1. Ponzi schemes
2. BTC is a speculation bubble
3. Bitcoin exchanges are often Hacked
4. There is an assumption that BTC is too complicated to use
5. Bitcoin is not transparent and anonymous
6, Bitcoin facilitates money laundering.
7. Bitcoin is nothing more than a store of value and commodities
not as a medium of exchange.

So I think it is very important for us to introduce Bitcoin to people around us, either via Whatsapp or live chat.

First and foremost, you should understand that just a handful of the entire population of the world knows about Bitcoin and understands what Bitcoin is and  uses it for their transactions. Majority do not have the understanding and knowledge of what bitcoin is and how different it is from the traditional financial system. Such people will always say negative things about Bitcoin because they don't really understand the exact principles of the Bitcoin ecosystem.  And also, 11 years is not enough of change the minds of such people.

Crime and illegal activities existed long before the creation of the internet. If people are scamming people using Bitcoin or cryptocurrency does not really shows or means that Bitcoin is the reason why this kinda scams exist. People should understand that fraudulent acts will always exist even if Bitcoin seize to be in existence.

People have already mentioned that scam surrounding cryptos can be an issue, and some argue that it's not the case that most people believe Bitcoin is a scam. This is the sort of question that could be answered with reputable sociological polls in place, but unfortunately it's not easy to find them. I've found one by YouGov about the US (https://www.coindesk.com/survey-nearly-80-of-americans-have-heard-of-bitcoin) (click on 'full results' in the article to see it), but I'm not sure how credible it is. Anyway, according to this research, half of people who've heard of Bitcoin but didn't have any interaction with it don't intend to buy it in the future. And 25% of all respondents believe that Bitcoin is used more for illegal purposes than legal purposes. Apart from that, among all the respondents only 13% believe that within the next 10 years Bitcoin will be widely accepted as money (and additional 23% believe it'll be "somewhat widely accepted"). If the research is accurate, I'd say it means that at least a very solid amount of people know about Bitcoin (71% of the respondents have heard of BTC btw) but are cautious to use it and don't really believe in its future. And unfortunately, I think people are hesitant about Bitcoin precisely because they're so used to having the authorities decide what's better for them, and these people are not ready for the risks and responsibility that comes with Bitcoin.

This is exacting what the people and the media needs to know and understand. People will always take advantage of others due to their lack of knowledge. A lot of people see Bitcoin as a get rich quick commodity, and such people are very vulnerable of getting scammed with the aim of doubling their initial capital. Criminals are just taking advantage of the fact that most people are not well educated on what Bitcoin is and its purpose in the financial ecosystem.

Yes, exactly! First off, it's their lack of knowledge about bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. When one do not know enough about the pros and cons, and the possible risks it may pose, then it leads them to fraudulent schemes without knowing it. When that happens, the result would be their skepticism on bitcoin. They'd blame such for losing instead of gaining when in fact, it's their fault that it happened to them.

I'm not losing hope, though, that people would someday accept bitcoin and wouldn't think of it as a scam. They just have to exert more efforts and learn more about it.

It doesn't cost anyone to say anything.
They just randomly give opinions on random matters.
There are also some people who can't figure out the deeper meaning of an object until and unless they use it.
This is also the same case for Bitcoins.
90% of people who says Bitcoin is a scam, i bet haven't used Bitcoin for once also.
They doesn't knows how the cryptos work or what are the benefits from it.
Nevertheless there will be an era come when BTC will be respected by each and every people in the society.
Best of luck to us.

Warren Buffet is a historical trader, but that's what he will become - a history while Bitcoin is the future of money, and that future is now and forever. I am sure that among those people who consider bitcoin a scam, a much larger number of people of age than young people will prevail. Ignorance rules our world, but as conditions change, so do people's judgments. Bitcoin by its existence proves that it is not a scam, the longer it exists, the more people will be sure of it.

People who think bitcoin is a scam are foolish. It is like blaming a hammer for a murder. A hammer is just an object. Bitcoin is just a payment method. A person decided to murder someone with the hammer. The hammer cannot think for itself. Same with bitcoin. Someone decided to take advantage of people and steal their funds. A scammer will scam you out of anything valuable. It doesn't have to be money it can be other things too. These people have no shame remember. Whenever something is bad or wrong there is always a human involved. Blame the problem on the people not on things. Exactly the same with drugs. Blame drugs & alcohol all day long the end of the day its the drug users/alcoholic fault if they do something wrong.

With anyone behind it, people think it is a currency made to be a bubble that would explode soon.

If they can see and use the benefits of bitcoin, they will know that bitcoin can be their option to make money, and they will still use bitcoin without thinking about the scam news out there. The reason why most people think that Bitcoin is a scam is because they choose to believe on that ideology being set and said by the government, the banks and even the mass media saying negative thoughts about Bitcoin and the whole cryptocurrency  industry as well. They have been planted the idea that engaging into Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will tolerate scams and even money laundering and other related stuffs. It is because it is a new idea that they do not understand and choose not to explore further which makes them think that it is a scam. The general thought and idea circulating in the society for those who do not truly know what Bitcoin is, becomes a generic idealization that upon hearing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies they always relate it to scam. Maybe it is duly because other people who have tried and got victimized by scams have testified the thought which is somehow true because they engage without knowing anything and have taken advantage by the scammers around and that serve as generalization to them which is partially true but not all. There are scams but there are still legitimate ones and that can be proven if you will explore further. But since the idea have been set into the negative one, the people tend to think that cryptocurrencies as a whole including Bitcoin is a scam.

If only that idea would be corrected, people will surely reconsider and will take a chance to engage into Bitcoin and prove to themselves that Bitcoin is not really a scam, the scam is the people doing the scam schemes and not the crypto itself.

People who doesn't have knowledge on bitcoin are those mostly saying that bitcoin is scam but people like us here we are hundred percent is pure legit. Only bad people making bitcoin a bad name to the community and future investors. Bitcoin is merely a victim from greedy people want to take advantage of it and it's straight facts. Despite the negativity, bitcoin still growing and expanding the adoption throughout the globe to continue the ideology of embracing the future of digital currency.

Simply because the first thing that comes in their mind is huge profit not thinking if there is assurance and consistency in the first place. Maybe that is the idea left to us when the market value of Bitcoin have reached its ATH before. Many people earned huge profit and many people are also hoping of getting the same thing. Unfortunately, those people do not know that the market value is not ALWAYS increasing at the same rate. A matter of expectations and reality which results for people to call it a scam when their hopes are not met.

It seems that there are still many people who believe more in the centralized nature of banking, which they think is easier and safer and protected by the government. but let them, we as a community who care about the future of Bitcoin should be more focused on the development of cryptocurrency technology (especially Bitcoin). I am sure, those who hate bitcoin will slowly realize that the technology that bitcoin has is very useful.

I'd actually argue that is because, to many people it is still very much used for scamming. People still think bitcoin will get them rich in a couple months and just give their money away to scammers who claim they'll be able to get them ridiculous gains in short time frames.

So it's really misinformation's fault, like anything in this day and age :)

I think its because when BTC had its BIG price up, and everyone was talking aboout it, even in the news, people thought that if they bought BTC, inmediately they would become millionaires... So, people bought BTC... But! When the price dropped from one day to another, they thought they "lost" their money, so to prevent more loss, they sold those BTC. What they didn't know (Because of lack of information... I mean, any investor should educate theirselves and get some information before making and investment...), is that they lost POTENTIAL money. If the price dropped, all they could do to not transform that potential to real loss, was holding the BTC. If they had held those BTC, in 5 years from now, they would have their investment benefit. BUT since, the people that did that are too many (Buy at high price and sell at low price, haha!), and first of all, are not serius investors and don't know nothing about investments (and worst of all, are not willing to learn), and second of all, invested money that they needed, not money that they were willing to lose; all that in summary, lead to the bad BTC experience, which lead to that they now think BTC is a bad investment, that you lose money on BTC, and that Cryptos are scam... And they share that experience!!! So now, other ignorant people (in investment issues) believe it... I think, people that think its a scam, its only because of IGNORANCE, and worst of all, their minds being so closed to other opinions and experiences, they don't even want to learn....

It's a lie that bitcoin hasn't changed in the minds of people, I've seen a general change and people see it as a opportunity more nad more, what there is a lot of is that people don't know how it works, and it lends them to be scammed very easily! We as bitcoin heads need to help inform our friends and family on the most common scams at least :(

Another point is several times BTC comes into the NEWS headlines due to wrong reason, like recently twitter hack. Media does not tell about the positive side of BTC that much it should be. So somehow it creats an negative impression in some persons mind.

It is most common ideas among common people that btc or other cryptos are being used for illegal operations like Drug dealings, weapon trading, smuggling, contract killing. But people are getting real picture now. May be this will take times. And many institutional investors consider btc as pyramid scheme, some say btc is ponzi. As btc is still infant, only few people in community have the real info, false/bad news were turned into reality. Hacking, scam accusations, volatility have made people more reluctant towards btc

Bitcoin becomes scam to the eye of the people due to the scammers who used bitcoin as transaction in their illegal things. Most of the people during 2017 was hyped also by the market. Therefore, those who trapped at 19K dollars and above had been recognized bitcoin as scam and bubble. Imagine, until now they did not yet got the 30% of their capital. That is why many of people are complaining that bitcoin is a scam.

Ignorance is the answer for your question OP. A lot of people are entering in the world of investing without any knowledge or even reading a small part of their investment. And when they lose, they blame all things to the investment that they have failed to read at beginning.

The magic word is ignorance. Bitcoin is just like any other investments, if you don't know what you're getting into, then don't expect that you will come out successful.
Those who are still accusing bitcoin as scam don't have yet the right information about crypto and blockchain technology.

I agree with the bubble that occurred at the end of 2017, making a lot of people think Bitcoin is a scam. Though what makes Bitcoin
rose to a price of $ 19,000 because of the FOMO done by newbies who want instant profit. Another reason many scammers use it
Bitcoin to do fraud, like the twitter hack that just happened. Negatively affected to Bitcoin, and makes several people mention Bitcoin scam.

Although many people still don't invest in Bitcoin or use it for payment tool, it doesn't mean they think Bitcoin is a scam. Some people even don't know what Bitcoin is, while others are still afraid to invest because they want it legal first in their country. Definitely,  this are the people who knew less about Bitcoin and it's great features. People who live in their traditional ways of managing finances and payments with less knowledge in digital technology may think Bitcoin as a scam everytime they heard something about it. For it has been programmed in their conservative minds that the currency itself or the money that we earned online or anything that is pertaining to internet, are all SCAM. That is why they are afraid and refuse to engage themselves about it. But I guess, they are only few nowadays because most people especially those who are living in the city are highly digital and have lots of knowledge and trust about BTC and blockchain industry because of social media campaigns and ads.

I think it because BTC don't have any physical form. A digital currency that requires a device and internet connection is not acceptable for some people. They want and believe something that they can touch. Also, people don't want to believe something trustable that is not operating or controlled by the govt. They think govt is the only authority that can create and protect their assets.
People already became used to digital currencies in forms of numbers in bank accounts, for example. The only difference here between bitcoin and those numbers is who actually controls "your balance". That is very counterintuitive to think that bitcoin, which is controlled by the holder, is scam, but at the same time, numbers, over which bank customers don't have full control meaning they have to rely on third parties, bankers, etc, are not scam. The possibility of being scammed in the latter situation is significantly higher. People don't believe that they are able to be responsible enough to control their own funds and because of that they call everything, that requires responsibility and carefulness, a scam, that sounds ridiculous!

We should always consider to present them about Blockchain Technology and what makes it great since plunging into the side of Cryptocurrency will be quite hard since it already involves money. Presenting them the features of Blockchain and how we can utilize the Blockchain Technology would surely change their mind since they will be discovering on how to monetize their time using it.

Most people think that Bitcoin is a scam. This is not true. Bitcoin is a digital currency, it depends on technology. A portion (not entirely) of those who have no knowledge of technology or do not believe in technology consider Bitcoin to be a scam. They want and believe in something they can touch. Also, some people do not want to believe in anything that is not governed or controlled by the government. They think only the legitimacy of the government can create and protect their property. Although some people like Warren Buffett are critical of Bitcoin, the acceptance of Bitcoin is increasing day by day in the technology dependent world and the governments of many countries are giving national legitimacy.

Those beginners do not know what risks will occur. When they didn't make any profits they started saying bitcoin was a scam and such. thus making other newbies or people who don't know about bitcoin have negative thoughts about the bitcoin scam.

because every one think this normally has just followed a couple of fake news (like btc is died, btc has been hacked).

Hello to all. If all the mass media in the world adhered to the opinion of competent people, and would not relay the opinion of the "financial elite", I am sure that the opinion of people would be radically different. But many ordinary people simply do not have time to deal with incompetent statements. Ask yourself - when you've heard something positive about Bitcoin in one of the top rated media in the world. Only those who think with their own mind and strive for new knowledge do not succumb to such publications, but this is not a large percentage of all mankind, and they are mainly found on this forum.

That's certainly true, mate. Most people lack education about everything related to Bitcoin and Blockchain tech. If they knew Bitcoin's potential to transform mainstream finance, they wouldn't think it is a scam. They're most often guided by what's said on mainstream media and the elites (like Warren Buffet). Since these entities talk negatively about Bitcoin most of the time, people become skeptical about it. Rest assured that with COVID-19 encouraging digital payments adoption at a large scale, more people will become inclined into using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for their daily lives. I think some time is needed for the crypto space to mature. It's been only 11 years since Bitcoin's inception, with progress made in every level. Already, some governments are recognizing Bitcoin as legal tender. We might reach a point where people will distance scams from Bitcoin itself in the not-so-distant future. Remember, patience is key in order to achieve great results in the long term.

Nonetheless, it's our duty as crypto enthusiasts to let the world know that there's an alternative to the current monetary system. As long as people are educated about Bitcoin, they'll surely use it alongside Fiat for mainstream transactions. Back then, Bitcoin was declared to be dead hundreds of times. But day after day, it's been showing quite the opposite. Bitcoin has been growing at a fast pace ever since it came into inception back in 2009. The 2017 bull market run has only accelerated its adoption. Someday, people will stop believing misinformation spread throughout mainstream media, as they become more knowledgeable about the subject. Just my thoughts ;D

Mainstream media isn't a reason for people's thought on bitcoin as a scam. These days media too looks supportive to the cryptocurrency network. There is lack of understanding, and in particular is termed as scam due to the greed of common people.

People out of greed invest on some form of multiplier scam or on MLM based scams promoted in the name of bitcoin. When one gets fooled, he/she never agree its their mistakes. The same is termed as the failure of bitcoin, and this person spreads it in the negative way. This is why people think bitcoin a scam.

it seem it is very hard to convince some people and have them change their mind from their previous believe on btc probably because of the high volatility associated with btc and crypto in general,
and also the fact that btc does not have any physical value attached to it except being a digital payment system, i guess it is still very strange to some people how the price manage to rise to this extent.

hot topic coz it is controversial, you know only few people adapts the internet there are more ignorant people in the internet, more than you think of actually. Just take a look at the recent hacking in twitter, even crypto has been sitting for decades still there are people who believes in 'doubler' millions has been scammed from that, and only that simple hacked post. There are people who looks at bitcoin as a scam or bubble coz it is inevitable, that's the curse of bitcoin when it was born, it was made for the majority to disagree, the only cure is time and an open mind.

Rather than convincing people to invest, study, or buy bitcoin just focus on your stuff in the cryptocurrencies. You don't have their money, your money is not on them so why persuade them to jump in? only those who cares and attracted will truly know.

Rumors and fake news are the reason why bitcoin have bad image in the public that leads to misinterpretation where the public thinks it is a scam. We cannot blame them if they their own personal view towards bitcoin is scam because it only proves that they are still ignorant. It can fix through proper education, the good thing is every knowledge is now available in all over internet and we can easily access it especially if we really understand the bitcoin. The only problem is the people are lazy enough to fo research and it is the reason why they keep believing in the fake news and rumors all over around the internet.

They did not have idea what is the opportunity once they enter to bitcoin because maybe they think bitcoin is scam because of thwat they saw in the news which is a lot of scam happens to the crypto in the past few years ago and we will not blame people for that because they are scared but without doing a research they don't know what is good if they have bitcoin in their lives.
Many people just assume up front without knowing the background of bitcoin, it's usually people who have never been in crypto. so they say bitcoin scam, scam or something. so we can only ignore what people say, because in reality bitcoin is not a scam as many people are talking about

We can't deny the fact that despite passing lots of tests of time, there are still people who think of it as a scam. I think one of the main reasons why there are people who don't trust Bitcoin is because most fraudsters and scammers have ruined its reputation before. Lack of knowledge and understanding about its features and advantages is also a reason for them to think of it as a scam. Bitcoin can please everyone but lucky are those who trust and believe in it.

Its their own mistake but they are blaming the technology for it. They didn't spend some time researching or reading before spending money. Kind of sucks that its very easy for them to spend money than spending time researching.

Those people who are spreading rumors that btc is a scam are the very same people who doesn't even understand btc and crypto.

Yeah that is the truth thing we can't get out of their minds. It is mainly because of the worthless scammers who are actually taking advantages of people who don't still know what bitcoin or cryptocurrency really is. There are some people that are starting and using their own money to try invest here but for some reasons they are being scammed maybe because their knowledge on cryptocurrency or making transaction is not enough. After getting scammed the only thing that comes into their mind is that bitcoin is a scam which is not true, and we all know that. It is all because of the scammers and other people who don't really know what cryptocurrency is.

They did not know that free money and easy money can make them vulnerable to scammers. Yes there are many scammers in different social media platform and the victims are usually the people who are seeking easy money. There is no easy money because you really need to exert effort and time in order to make gains in a specific investment. Do not also believe in rumors, exert effort in order to know if it is legit or scam.

because people think that bitcoin is not a real thing. they doubted bitcoin because it was virtual and untouchable. it should be removed from the scam stigma if bitcoin becomes a scam item. this is one theory of distrust of people towards bitcoin
actually the root cause of the problem is that people think bitcoin is a scam because of the lack of understanding they have in their minds, for people like this they really need an explanation that is very well accepted and with great patience. because crypto is clearly not real and the simplest explanation is what we receive from every transaction in the form through the savings we have that has increased because we are working on bitcoin. then it will be easy to explain further because the name relationship with money is very crucial and people need it.

because they do not really know what bitcoin is all about and they are just hearing news about bitcoin related scam and not bitcoin directly. This is the problem with those people tha had say so many things when even if you will going to ask them what is bitcoin they can't answer.

Lack of education. This is the real problem with people nowadays. They get fake information and think of it as true. It so sad that bitcoin was being drag to scam issue and also being used by the abusers to scam other people.

The best option is to ignore these naysayers rather than trying to change their mindset. If anyone is interested in learning about the crypto currency market they will spend their time to research about the market and everything is available online and people who are not interested would catch all the negative aspects they hear from the media and hence they are not interested they would care less about learning about them.

Even the one you mentioned doesn't confirm that bitcoin is a scam when he says "will become worthless", which is a general prediction without any solid reason.
yes it is baseless, maybe 3 in 10 people think so but bitcoin only takes time to accept
I think why some people think bitcoin is a scam, because they don't buy bitcoin from a legal and trusted place plus some people use bitcoin to commit fraud, when someone is tricked they will talk to others so that it will create a negative mindset towards bitcoin. this is the power of speech

Forget about bitcoin for a moment and lets think about fiat, how many people actually know how fiat works? Very few, in fact most people do not really understand how the economy works and if they don't do that then they are never going to be aware why we need something like bitcoin and why it has so much potential, as long as most people are doing fine in the current system people are not going to ask questions, this is why I always thought that we need a huge economic crisis for people to actually adopt bitcoin massively.

Good point. People who often experience a bad investment, think Bitcoin is a scam. But it's all a misconception about the pioneer cryptocurrency. Once they know that no one controls Bitcoin, they'll stop thinking that it's a complete fraud. I've seen how people believe Bitcoin is controlled by a single entity (like developers), when that's not largely the case. It's the common mindset in the mainstream world, since we've been accustomed to Fiat's level of centralization for a long time. I think that with due time, people will be able to distance scams from Bitcoin itself. The crypto community needs to spread the word out there about Bitcoin's benefits to the mainstream world. With proper education, people will learn that scams are not directly tied to Bitcoin itself.

Nonetheless, I think Bitcoin has reached a point where scams have little to no effect over its reputation in the mainstream world. While most people still think it's a scam, they'll get "over it" once they realize the true benefits of Bitcoin over Fiat. The ever-rising popularity of "De-Fi" and Stablecoins should leave Bitcoin in the headlines. Already in this pandemic, people are starting to see Bitcoin as an alternative to Gold. With heavy-handed regulations, scams will be reduced to a point where they'll no longer pose a threat to Bitcoin. It'll up to the people themselves to take responsibilities to protect themselves against undesired situations in the crypto/Blockchain space. Just my thoughts ;D

Maybe because Warren Buffets think from a business perspective on bitcoin, the bitcoin community plays an important role in the market price of bitcoin. In my view of cryptocurrency not only bitcoin, that cryptocurrency has very capable technology behind it, so I have more confidence in cryptocurrencies in the future. If you take it from a bitcoin point of view, bitcoin is more towards assets than daily transactions, because the price is very high, the feeble is also quite high for small value transactions. I'm not sure how to deal with people who don't believe in from the start and see bitcoin as a scam, it would be better for me to leave them alone as long as there is no controversy.

There is a lot of people around the world who are not familiar with bitcoin and for this reason they call bitcoin as a scam coin.
The most funniest part of it is that when you try to convince such people and you give them analysis on how well you are doing good in the crypto space they will tell you that bitcoin will soon be devalue, lots of clueless people out there who still believe bitcoin is a scam. Majority of them bought bitcoin through some mlm schemes, after being scam they label bitcoin scam because scammers are exploiting from Bitcoin buyers as they know the value of it rising

Ignorance is the answer why most people think that bitcoin is a scam. So even if you explained it and they have no basic knowledge about crypto, they thought that you are saying gibberish things. So once they see that someone is doing good with bitcoin, at first they will think that you got lucky, but if they are curious how did that happen, they will start studying bitcoin and crypto, and that's when they will find out that bitcoin is not a scam, only those people that creating crap projects are scammers, but the concept itself is not.

Hey. Most people are simply indifferent to the dollar exchange rate, and whether or not Bitcoin is a scam, they do not care either. Most people on the planet find it difficult to buy even a small fraction of Bitcoin. These people only hear what the allegedly "rating" media are broadcasting, and they only broadcast negative news about cryptocurrency. Ask the miner who mines coal in the mines or the janitor who sweeps the yard every morning - basically they will say that they do not care whether they will be paid in dollars or Bitcoins, the main thing is that with this money you can feed your family. It is very easy for people to hang labels, but when they become more familiar with the topic of Bitcoin, these negative labels will disappear by themselves.

To make it simple,

"Those people" do not have enough knowledge about bitcoin, they simply believe what the social media or any source of news say about it. They do not even experience it because of different reasons they have. They just don't care about it and believe what they heard because they lack knowledge about it.
