Title: My Ethereum transaction has been pending for over a month
Post by: UnitedNot on August 11, 2020, 09:07:11 AM
I tried to send an Ethereum transaction using https://www.myetherwallet.com/ over 40 days ago. I used a very low fee and seems it was not nearly enough. The transaction is now stuck and says pending. It doesnt look like it will be dropped and I am not sure what to do.

I tried to speed it up by adding more gas through Metamask but every time I do that I get an error in MEW and it fails. I read somewhere that I need to spend the same nonce with more gas for the transaction to be confirmed. I have no idea how to do that. Can someone help?

Has anyone faced similar issues wit stuck Eth transactions that couldnt be spent and how do I solve this?
What is going on with the fees and why is an ETH transaction more expensive than a Bitcoin transaction?

I've read somewhere that you could re-submit your transactions at a higher fee via Metamask's Speed Up. Do you have the extension installed?

Try these steps:

Quote
Canceling a Transaction
Canceling means generating a 0 ETH transaction to your own address with the purpose of preventing a previous transaction from “going through” / “being mined” / “being included in the blockchain” / “being stuck”.

Step 1. Head to Etherscan.io or Ethplorer.io.

Step 2. Paste your transaction hash.

If it says pending, you can still try to cancel it.
If it says not found, click the button again, waiting a few minutes between each click. If that doesn’t work, it’s likely your transaction never went through.
If it says success, you cannot try to cancel it.
Step 3. If it says pending, access the wallet you used to send the original transaction on MEW.

Step 4. Send a transaction to yourself with a balance of 0 ETH.

Step 5. Click the ‘Send Transaction’ button.

Step 6. A dialog will appear. Click the “Yes, I’m Sure” button to send.

Step 7. A new transaction hash will appear. Click the link to view it and see if you were successful. If it doesn’t show up immediately, try refreshing in a few minutes.

more details here in this site about cancellation or replacement of pending transaction.

This user have the same experience and I think you should view how he did solve the issue. Check the link.

Its weird there are lots of new topic regarding transaction stuck. It looks like the eth network has clogged that worse.  I would like to suggest to everyone to always check the transaction fee via eth gas station or avoid transferring of funds through the use of eth network for a while or unnecessary transactions. Gas fee now are really crazy high.

I advise you to follow the link above^ how masulum solved his case.

Ethereum transactions these days are congested so if you pay for a very low fee, don't expect it to be confirmed quickly. The next time you send ETH, pay the average fee or more than a bit of that.

What is Gwei you used for your transaction? If you move it month ago I think you moved it with fee less than 20 Gwei or maybe below 10 Gwei. Because you said yours is very low. 21 Gwei was the average during the days.

The average fee now is 147 Gwei. https://ethgasstation.info/calculatorTxV.php

MyEtherWallet automatically detects if there's pending transaction. So all you need to do is create a new transaction to same address of same amount but with higher fees. If you are doing now, add 135-140 Gwei as fees. Then MEW with broadcast new transaction with same nonce to the network and it will be accepted in block shortly. Once it is accepted in block, your previous transaction will be marked 'Cancelled and Replaced'.

If you have done any transaction after the pending transaction, it will be either pending or dropped. If it is pending, it will be confirmed after your pending transaction is confirmed provided you have added enough fees in that transaction.

DeFi effect! Due to the new trend of DeFi, smart contracts are being readily created on Ethereum network which is slowing down blockchain and you have to pay higher fees. Same happened when dApps initially became hot, CryptoKitties days!

Ill never experience something like that using imtoken wallet they will give suggested fee every time I want to transfer any eth or tokens. I think the problem of your transaction is the fees you use for transferring it to other address . Many suggestions is given above already but I want to suggest to use im token next time if you don't want to experience the same problem in the future.

IM token also has its pros and cons but for someone like OP who doesn't know how to set the right gas fee then it is good to go for the wallet which is having suggested fee feature while making every transaction. And also IMtoken received every tokens without manually adding them like in MEW that is an extra feature people will get.

What happened eth?
My transaction pending too.
transactions that I have done for more than one week,
but until now it has not been executed.
oh no, is this an upgrade for the better?
even the gas had penetrated 130 gwei.
someone please explain to me.

Everytime you doing any transfer on ethereum transactions, please look at the gas price first before you send your ether to avoid its pending for a long time or use mobile wallet like trust wallet or ImToken that could help you calculate how much fees you need for transactions to avoid the transactions getting stuck.

the only solutions for you now is reversed your current transactions by doing new ethereum transfer to any wallet with 0 value and input same nonce as your stuck transactions nonce, dont forget to use current gas price to make it faster, then your stuck ETH will be reversed and you can transfer it again with high price.

i think its might happend if your gwei is high but your gas is to low its could cause your transactions getting stucked to.

I don't know what's happening with ethereum now, it seems like many transaction are stuck, unconfirmed and dropped. I haven't experience any of this, even I just transfer an ETH just 3 days ago it instantly confirms in the network. As what did @Webtricks has mentioned, you need to do a same transaction but with higher fees, I haven't done it yet so I'm not sure but it is logical for the pending transaction to be replaced once there is a duplicate transaction, eth network will easily detect those. The only downside is this will going to generate more fees than your past transaction so you can be sure that it'll send right away.

even the gas had penetrated 130 gwei.
someone please explain to me.
As far as I know the 130 gwei is a high fee, it should send instantly at least within 2 minutes, then 100 for standard time up to 5 minutes and the slowest at 90gwei. If it is in 130, then try to make it 140 gwei this time or 150 if you please to.

I think just follow as posted above (@webtricks), as I know, the miners will pick the new transaction if you are in safe low fees before your stuck transaction and it should be marked as a rejected, high fee always varries. Just refer to this link,( https://ethgasstation.info/ ) to know which gas fee is safe before having the transaction to avoid getting stuck.

I always choose the recommend fees to avoid getting stuck, if you are in a hurry it is worth it to pay a high gas fee than you will wait longer time. There are too many factors Eth network becomes congested at this time, the high fee doesn't get hurt if you will choose this for the fastest transaction. If Bitcoin has an unconfirmed site of mempool, Ethereum has also had, you can check before having transactions. https://etherscan.io/txsPending.

this usually happens because Gwei or fee ethereum  have increased maybe at that time you installed a small amount of Gwei then the pending transaction and takes so long the solution to this problem is simply to wait until Gwei ethereum drops back down

I thought you are the same person who has a stuck 11 ETH transaction, he is the receiver though.
Have you tried to contact myetherwallet support to as how to replace your transaction with higher gas ?
Maybe the reason you failed when using metamask to replace the gas is because you used mew(myetherwallet) on your stuck transaction before, so it will need to using mew when replacing the gas as well.

That's right, yesterday I sent a little ETH with 50 gwei gas, and the status is pending, then I increased it to 75 gwei, it's still pending. But after I added gas to 120 gwei and my transaction was confirmed successfully. The Ethereum network currently requires more gas if you want your transactions to be successful, at least you have to set 100 gwei.

Maybe you need to set mining fee to 0.0025 ether, or around $ 1. Yesterday I sent from ImToken wallet and I set the mining fee to "fast" In less than 5 minutes, my transaction was successful.

I've seen this happened twice on my side, the transaction will later get rejected but if you want solution you should deposit fresh eth into your ethereum wallet address and leave it there, the network will take some eth to the transaction approved

It will not get rejected but will be in pending mode for a very long time.. He said its already has being stuck for a month now and yeah do not expect anything when you use a cheap gas for your transfer as now the traffic are high and that made gas for transaction are very high while the cheap one will get stuck for a long time. Try to cancelled your transaction i think there was a lot of tutorials out there on youtube to do that.

Actually, the main problem that occurs is because our desire to pay a small fee but behind it results in things that we cannot avoid that there will be a long pending because there are quite a lot of transaction queues and usually they don't see the beginning of the transaction but how much you give the fee for the transaction.

the effort is not to give a small fee, but if the one who does is the exchanger we cannot avoid it and please be patient. try is to use an exchanger who charges a reasonable fee because of course it's for our good so that we don't wait too long.

Over a month transactions and still pending is very long. I have also experience like that sending transactions with very low fee it took me more than 8 hours that stuck in a network. I’ve tried using Metamask and add up a fee it went through and becomes successful transactions. It just takes I think 5-10 minutes it came to my wallet. That's true eth transactions these days is really expensive.

Try to get gas fees higher, I just transferred some ETH today and I spent more than $ 3 in fees on it, and the transaction only took 5 minutes to complete.

yes that can be a good solution; but I think the minimal gas fees are widely sufficent to transfer his coins in a long period (more than a month as he said) at least it can take some days

it looks like that is the standard these days . loads of people have transaction fees at the peak so they tend to manually reduce the gwei and it results to longer transaction periods as miners tend to mine transactions that are much more in gas fees than the regular or reduced gas fee.

What is going on with the fees and why is an ETH transaction more expensive than a Bitcoin transaction?

Not always, this varies from wallet to wallet, as well as according to the different exchanges, there are bitcoin wallets that have higher fees than Ethereum and the matter also differs between exchanges where there are exchanges with low fees and other exchanges with high fees.
Also, it is related to network pressure. You have to choose the right time to send. If there is high pressure on the Ethereum network, the fees are high and if there is no congestion the fees are low.

This is right. We all can see that right now the number of ETH transactions is huge! The reason is that people are following each other to buy ETH for holding. There is rumor about the pump of ETH in the market, that makes people rush to buy ETH. It is a common thing that when the number of transactions is high, the fee will be high as well. Also, because the pressure is too much, the time it takes to finish the transaction will be longer!

Yes, commissions on various exchanges differ from each other. Two days ago, I had to withdraw Ethereum from the Poloniex and Binance exchanges. At the same time, the Commission with Poloniex was 0.01 ETH, and with Binance 0.004 ETH. But on the same day, the Commission for withdrawal to Myetherwallet.com it was even higher than on the specified exchanges.

I didn't know it could be that long, I thought if you send it and it doesn't have enough, it just doesn't get picked up and returns back to you, didn't know it could be hanging in there for over a month and not be with you nor be in the wallet of wherever you sent, that is a new information. I would say the best way would basically be waiting right now for this ethereum transaction cost thing passes, right now it is so huge that it has ballooned up to a whole new level of high, however I am sure that eventually that will pass and by that time your coins will be sent.

However if you really want to hurry it up, you could totally speed it up by metamask, if you fail it then just add some more and more eventually it will accept it because it would be worth it to accept it.

All coin will be like that, more and more people getting interest to the coin then there will be an impact for the transaction fee.

Like has happened in ethereum coin, I found interesting article (https://www.google.com/amp/s/cointelegraph.com/news/ethereum-network-hashrate-hits-20-month-high-as-defi-tokens-rally/amp) in cointelegraph and you may need to see it for further information.

And seem like the increasing fee in the ethereum hashrate will continue since the DeFi project has been popular and many developer who will take it as an opportunity to create new DeFi's project.

Regarding ETH pending transactions because the Gwei you are using is too low, I recommend at least 150 Gwei for transaction fees.
This happened since DeFi projects hype, making ETH network slower. Now please replaced the ETH of your pending transaction. After
that, increase the transaction fees to be higher, my advice is above 150 Gwei. Hopefully your ETH transactions are not pending anymore.

polo has a high fee , thats why i dont trade on them  but you said mew is higher than both ? how come when your the one that sets fee  ? never used mew for a long time but i think thats how it works before

. idk if they add new features where you can send automatically using the fee that they set  . we dont want our transaction to look like the op , thats why i wont complain for the fees or we can wait for the value of eth to go down to save fees

I also just heard that currently ETH transaction fees are very expensive than before. however, I have never had an Ethereum transaction delayed for more than a month. maybe there is something wrong with you when making a transaction. I think you need to recheck the transaction and correct previous mistakes.
The reason that his transaction was congested is the gas fee, he probably set the gas fee too low so the transaction was not confirmed. As long as it increases gas charges, I believe everything will go well

it could be that when you make a Gwei transaction that you are using is not suitable so that your transaction is stuck, with very high gas currently reaching Gwei 200, and you are using Gwei far below it so that it can make your transaction process stuck and not run, and I am a little surprised by expensive fuel now, what happened ?? :o :o

Gwei is fee on Ethereum network, it is not a transaction.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, there are big differences between the different exchanges and I don’t know why, at least on Myetherwallet.com you can control the fees somewhat as you can reduce them by reducing the gas required for the transmission, but in Poloniex and Binance exchanges these fees are fixed and cannot be Control it and it should be paid in full.

This has happened to a lot of people, and it keeps happening. If you don’t want to be experiencing problems like this, the best thing you should do is use fees that are enough to get that transaction confirmed. For example if you’re making use of the Blockchain wallet, when sending your ETH, you will see the fees are divided into about four or three types, there is the lower transaction fee, the priority, and the custom fee.

If you use the custom, it is going to let you set a custom fee, but I don’t make use of custom fees, I just use the regular and priority; priority is for when I’m in a hurry to send the money and regular is for when I am not in a hurry. If the fees are too high for you, that’s because the network is kind of too much occupied, you can leave it and try later. One thing with your transaction getting stuck is that you won’t be able to send another transaction since ETH has what is called nonce to help avoid double spending.

As for how you can fix this, you said it’s been fourth days, so if you check MetaMask the – speed up – button might have appeared by now, when you click the speed up button you can resubmit the transaction with higher gas fee for it to be confirmed. But you can also cancel it if that’s not working for you. There is a blog on ETHGasStation.info that explains this, you send 0.00 ETH with same nonce and the 0.00 ETH gets confirmed and the old gets cancelled.

The transaction is now stuck and says pending. It doesnt look like it will be dropped and I am not sure what to do.

I dot believe in Ethereum transactions get dropped out of mempool after some time like in Bitcoin.  You need to do what few people already mention. Send the same transaction again. I had to do it few years ago. There were nice tutorials how to do it.

Unfortunately you was using the gas fee too low, the network of Ethereum is still crowded now.
I see on https://etherscan.io/gasTracker , that tether usd and uniswap project is the most contributor for the gas fee.
Unless they using low gas fee, we can't using low gas fee because the miners will prioritize them first.

Same problem here, been pending for 10 days now, after sending some token to an exchange.

There's a lot of us who are experiencing these issues, especially when you paid a low fee, just like I did.

You really can't expect me to pay a higher fee than the transaction fee I pay to my regular bank (which by the way never remains pending for 10 days). ::) So if this problem with Ethereum doesn't get solved soon, its future doesn't look too bright...

that is why Ethereum is a very risky coin now. People stop to believe in the company and do not like the technical development of this blockchain

I wouldn't state it as radically as you do, but it's about time things get moving.

Mine's pending for 14 days now. In the meantime my token is far from the price I wanted to sell it for, so it all doesn't matter much right now, and I'll just leave it pending for fun. Let's see if this will take forever or not.

The good news is that ethereum fee is back to previous values not only they are low now but faster as well, the eth dev team has found some solution for short term to cope with the issue which is great because community was thinking that it will remain like this till eth 2.0 launches.

They are trying to bypass the fee and set at the very low which is not a good idea. There is already a set minimum gas fee which a need not to change otherwise, it will keep undermined. It so expecting ti have delayed this time especially when we are just paying the acceptable minimum fee but seeing about 40 days still pending, that is really weird and I'm just hearing it for the first time.

@OP, only a thing that you do is to cancel it (just follow the STEPS (https://kb.myetherwallet.com/en/transactions/checking-or-replacing-a-tx-after-sending/)).
And have to spend more on a Gas fee for the next time, though you can still experience delays but it won't be the same as you have experienced lately. You can't ignore fees as only a way to have a successful transaction.

I've experienced this kind of thing, when using low gas costs. Indeed, our transaction will be delayed and we never know when it works or fails. So the thing that has to be done again is to make another transaction, but using high gas costs. So that our transaction is successful and the previous transaction will fail.

I also experienced several pending transactions using Ethereum, and it turned out that the gas fee I used was too low. After I canceled
the transaction and tried to re-do the transaction by increasing the gas fee, my Ethereum transaction was complete in several minutes.
Maybe if you experience the same thing as me, try the solution to increase the gas fee to high.

So in the end I lost my patience and replaced the transaction 3 days ago (after having been pending for almost 1,5 month) by a transaction in which I doubled the fee (remained largely under 1 dollar though) and it passed. In the end quite happy because I was absolutely not willing to pay more.

Looks like transaction fees have gone even lower since.

I don't think Ethereum is a risky currency right now. Maybe at this point Ethereum has high fees and delayed deposit times, however ETH is still the biggest altcoin in the market, it has a stable price and very good development team.

thats 3 of the known pros of etherium  . 3 pros versus 1 con ?  common sense ,  why will we betray eth for that but seriously that was a painful experience if we are in a hurry and we didnt expect that our transaction will get stuck .

imagine if we pay someone or we ordered something  , and if we see that our coin gets pump .  i know theres a warning shown by some wallets but the time that they put can sometimes be inacurate .

I don't understand why is it such problem to speed up the transaction. When I was claiming UNI Etherscan estimated that confirmation will be in more than an hour. I opened transaction in MetaMask and chose to speed it up. I entered more gas and the new transaction went trough while the old one was dropped.

Yes, you were using lower gas fee than should be at that moment. I think you can overwrite your pending transaction.
Try to search how to resubmit your ethereum transaction with higher gas fee, so there won't be any pending transactions anymore in your wallet.

check again, maybe your remaining etherum balance is not enough to pay for the gas price. Make sure how much etherum will be sent, how much the gas price will be, and make sure there is still 0.002 etherum left in your wallet, it will probably work. I usually do that when I can't make a transaction.

If your transaction is still in pending status you maybe able to cancel it in a very simple way go to transaction text then find the Nonce position in etherscan usually its at the bottom you can click to see more to show details once found the nonce position copy it and back to MEW and make a transaction by sending 0 eth to your own address using the same nonce position you copied in the pending transaction, you can see the nonce in edit advance settings in mew before sending.

This transaction must have been failed so far, you can see the red dot notification on the top right corner, some times it has a glitch with meta mask and shows transactions is pending even though they are failed, To solve that you just can send 0 Eth to your wallet with the same address, it cancels the former transaction.

I did exactly that with a stuck transaction that I sent from a nano ledger S and it worked fine  :)

Yes, at the moment Ethereum has only one downside: the transaction fees are too high. However everyone should keep in mind that Ethereum is still the largest altcoin on the market and a lot of coins are issued on the ERC20 platform.

This is because of the high fees currently in the Eth network. I heard there is way to get over it by sending another transaction with the same nonce. You can Google for the proper steps .
