Post by: Dragonfund on August 12, 2020, 07:07:04 AM
In Satoshi whitepaper, he created  Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System as form digital currency, this technology has evolved with lots of critism that had survived from the hands of traditional finance body, politics and other firms that has seen cryptocurrency as an opponent that will disrupt their centralized financial system.
However, individuals and group of people (scammers) has a way to take advantage of ignorance and tricks to swindle investor and amateur their live savings by promising high returns. They are saturated in every social network( YouTube, Facebook channels /groups, WhatsApp e.t.c), bitcointalk forum is not excluded.

You often see comments like:

Cryptocurrency space is vast with lots of folks with common interest ( sole aim to make profits) but we must also realize that for business to grow, we have to make schedule maintenance. We must protect the investors from getting discourage, change their misconceptions about bitcoin and other digital currency. This protection start as an individual, not just financial body as SEC.

Theymos sees future in this community despite different hack attacks, it was still revived. Thanks to him. This space must be well conserve for the future.
As a bitcointalk soldier who has always prove to keep the good reputation of this forum and help beginners, what can you do to safeguard  this Ecosystem?

I think the best thing to do in order to curb the menace is to make BITCOINTALK.ORG website more popularized and available to everyone interested in the dealing with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general as the forum is handy to that effect.

I doubt any regular user here in the forum would ever fall prey to those scam threats and besides there is no other easier and possible means to this end because one can not easily pose restrictions on mere posting on social media since attention to it is to a large extent an individual choice to make.

BITCOINTALK.ORG is key.

This has been asked many times already; you cannot protect others in the bitcoin network, that is one risk concern people have, the day you decide to buy btc, you take up the responsibility to protect yourself and your asset, what that means by extension is you taking up the responsibility of being your own bank, learning the best wallets to use in storing your coins, and understanding how scammers can target you, to steal your funds, and a lot of other things.

That being said, that effort in safety and protection can only be done individually, your action can't protect everyone in the system, the best you can do is just to educate the people around/in your community who are new to the bitcoin market, and even after that it falls back into their hands, cause they could still get greedy and decide to send 2btc to get 4.

I can only help by being a user to which will not join any bounty hunting in related to promoting ICO projects. I know that there are many scam ICO project nowadays and I cannot allow to promote it to others knowing that it will going to scam them. I am also tired of the project that will not pay after the ICO period. Full of promises but will never going to have a real good project. This is how the ICO projects work though not all are scam because there are few that are quite good project and that pays as well.

As for this forum, I think that there are good mechanisms for user protection and that the system works well in preventing all abuses that are regulated by the rules of the forum. I believe that one day when we move to a new forum things will be even better when it comes to security, and in the meantime everyone can take some responsibility and report to moderators (public posts) or administrators (private messages) all those users trying to do something bad.

Still, I think you may be exaggerating this forum a bit in relation to what is happening in the crypto world, so even though this is a very active community the question is how much influence we have on some external factors. The SEC is not interested in the opinion of forum users, large investors have super paid advisors, and this forum can primarily provide support to ordinary small people who have an interest in Bitcoin.

People who fall the scam patterns you mention into are certainly aware of the value of BTC (probably ATH value) but the actual value of blockchain it is operating on. Greed is the factor of attracting people towards any kind of scam which is essentially true here as well. In order to protect crypto ecosystem, people need to be educated with actual use cases of blockchain and various apps utilizing this technology. It is not easy to explain such stuff as compared to Banking.

As frontliners, local exchanges can play a vital role educating people about cryptocurrencies and protect entire ecosystem. The trust is another thing people are not believing in cryptocurrencies held by exchanges. Asset insurance and nominee introduction can become the next major beneficial factor for mass adoption.

Besides, OP and the first commentator has received merits from OgNasty for not considerably valuable content and both of them are newbie as well. Just a consideration!  :)

Scam attempts hidden behind an anonymous profile, or a low cost site, such as the ones used as examples in the OP, are basically unavoidable, and the best way to fight against them is to precisely make people aware of this type of scheme, specially aimed in general at the gullible and inexperienced. Unfortunately, bringing awareness may have the side-effect of overexposure, leading the perception, for some, to be that of eclipsing the benefits in favour of highlighting the grim part.

There's little we can do to be honest, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't act.

The only solution is pretty much, well, inform people! Share articles about bitcoin/cryptocurrency security or online security in general. Unfortunately though, it's pretty safe to assume that most people will learn the hard way— by getting scammed, and being more skeptical after the fact. It's unfortunate that a lot of people became too lazy and naive due to the sort of 'cashback' features of payment platforms.

I understood what you have said. Human mind is programmed with greed and high return form of investment. Many are also lazy to read articles and papers. So, when they see these platforms, it becomes difficult to ignored. Whatever they choose, decisions are followed by consequences.
For bitcoin to attain new all time high, we need inflow of cash from new investors which interest must be protected.

Life is not easy as that. If you send 1 BTC and easily get 2 BTC back, where is the 1 BTC from? It is impossible. The crypto market is in bull mode and you can easily to get 30 - 50% (even higher) profit by investment. Why not do good investment? Two or four times of good investment will double your capital. Don't think of easy money.
