However maybe newer GPUs got some type of bios lock or bios counter similar to what some Android phones had to prevent rooting. No idea if its implemented yet however. Usually most miners undervolt their GPU and keep it in an open air case and temps are VERY low. What usually kills GPUs due to high heat are gamers who got a dual SLI setup and one GPU resting on the other with a enclosed computer case with poor circulation.
I think the reason why they don't want their GPUs used for mining is because mining uses 100% of the GPU for 24 hours a day and can cause some components like capacitors to fail more often. Usually gamers play for 1-2 hours a day and the GPU doesn't go thru as many "useable hours" compared to mining.
