Title: Wallets that support BIP47 and PayNyms for Privacy
Post by: notblox1 on August 14, 2020, 12:08:34 PM
Anyone knows why BIP47 Reusable Payment Codes like PayNyms are not used more often in bitcoin wallets?
I know Samourai wallet is natively supporting them, and it is very good way to send or receive Bitcoins in private way without exposing your real public address.
Good if you want to accept donations privately and cool alternative for using mixers.

What are PayNyms?

Is there any other wallet like supporting this or have plans for adding this in future?
Electrum would be nice.

I can't find any discussion about adding BIP47 on Electrum yet.

About the other wallets that support BIP47 I found a list that supports this.

Here's the list

- Samourai (https://samouraiwallet.com/features.html)
- Stash (http://stashcrypto.com/products.html)
- Billion (https://github.com/Billionapp/billion-wallet-ios)

I got this source from https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/62105/which-wallets-work-with-payment-codes

- Billion (https://github.com/Billionapp/billion-wallet-ios)
I never heard about those two wallets.
Link for second wallet website is dead, and Billion app wallet has not been updated for more than two years.
Their website billionapp.org is also dead and missing from appstore.

It corresponds to 43/44.

Here is the proposal: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_0047 (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_0047)

Samourai is - unfortunately - the only reputable wallet i am aware of, which has this protocol implemented.
Currently, it is your best option.

Unless the demand for privacy increases, i believe it will be the only viable option in the near future.

A few people have asked for reusable payment codes on wasabi's github, but not enough to properly show the demand.

I think that using reusable payment codes is a wonderful idea, and I am sure there is demand for privacy, just look how mixers are doing good.
What makes it even more strange is that almost nobody is talking about PayNyms here in forum.
I only found some not very active old topics, and that makes me think people don't even know about stuff.

Can we please get more comments from DT and tech-savy members.?

Comments about what? Reusable payment codes?

Just look at the forum. The majority of people are using a wallet which does not protect their privacy at all.
Even worse, the majority gives away any personal information for a few $. Just take a look at the so-called "bounty" section. It is crazy how negligent those people are.

You will only find a small percentage of people on here who actually care about there privacy.

Yes I know.
I was asking opinions from that small percentage.

Maybe because there's no merchant which uses BIP47/PayNyms (let me know if there are any) and usually do it manually by PMing the address to the sender or using one-time address is good enough for privacy.
There is public directory of Paynyms here:
https://paynym.is/nyms

Anyone can create it and post in public in any website.

There's no correlation between DT and technical knowledge of Bitcoin.
Sure there are more tech oriented (DT or NO-DT) members and I was asking for their comments and opinions,
not the ones who write just because of their signatures.
