Title: How to mine Altcoins using VPS?
Post by: nonconformist on August 17, 2020, 05:44:31 AM
Hi everyone! I would just like to ask if anyone of you here already experienced mining altcoins using VPS?

I currently have VPS in Digital Ocean. I know that you can mine certain altcoins using VPS, but I don't know which ones. Also I don't know what is the process. Which is the best one to mine right now and what are the precautions one should take when mining using VPS. This is because I've read somewhere that mining using VPS will cause your VPS account to be banned. How do I prevent it? And also what are the best practices to do when mining using VPS. And which VPS services are the best for this kind of purpose.

I will really appreciate your answers.

Have you tried mining IDENA? IDENA mining does not require a very high CPU, I think it will be safe to avoid getting banned. all you have to do is download the wallet, pass validation for the first time, then you can mine IDENA.

This guy has an idena signature, so it's more than likely he has already tried it. What's more, he had no other option, because you need an Idenq account to participate in the campaign.

How strong did you choose the configuration server 1 cpu 1 gb ram or something stronger?

For a month or two I was mining Ring Coin on Digigal Ocean (4 cups's vps) I even managed to mine a few coins but it was more for testing than earning money. In general, VPSs (and especially the inexpensive ones) do not have strong enough cpus to  to mine effectively...

For testing he can do this, not sure if he already tried it but since all of you are wearing IDENA signature it's best to
try mining this coin, you already mentioned that this coin does not required high cpu so by passing the validation of
your wallet you can go and mine this coin.

You might try mining Gapcoin (GAP), difficulty is still relatively low and you can currently find blocks with a single core VPS ...

Gapcoind server or desktop set-up ...

Remember to use CPUlimit or the VPS company might ban you for being a resource hog!

Cheers!

Hi marcous, thank you very much. But I am already mining IDENA using my VPS. And I am happy that I found a coin that is not a CPU coin but, for the lack of better term, a bandwidth coin. where you can mine using only your internet speed. I am looking for coins like this. I hope that some of you guys know some coins. CPU coins are great, don't get me wrong. However, you just can't mine it using a shared VPS because the computing power of other customers will be greatly affected.

Hope to find more coins like this.

I am using 2 GB/ 1cpu, 50 gb ssd disk, 2 tb transfer. I used that tier because that's all the power that I needed to mine Idena. It is really a green way to mine. not that expensive. even just a clunky laptop can work. If you have an old laptop just lying around, you can use it in mining Idena. But since I don't have that, and I don't want to open a PC 24/7, I chose to use VPS. What I spend in VPS is $10 per month. I can mine around 10 IDNA per day, so at the current price, I can take a profit of around $71 per month if I am going to sell it. But since I am not going to sell it, I will have more profit when it reach new heights as it marketcap grows.

Ring coin, I haven't heard of it. I will research it. But if it is a CPU coin, I'll think I'll pass. Or I'm going to use a disposable VPS lol. But my question is, is it profitable to mine that coin? Based on your experience?

Hi BitcoinFX, thank you for sharing this coin. I will definitely check this out later when I got home in my PC. Will try it out also with a disposable VPS, (not my main account) and play with settings. it's a good thing that you've provided the link for the setup. cheers to you man!

Seem worth the try if your VPS will cost less than $70 a month. $60 a month isn't enough but its got to be accumulated to gain more of it. I've like to know which coin you will be trying, there is a suggestion of Ring and GAPcoin which I think is also good.

Gapcoin https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/gapcoin/markets/
Ring  https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/darwinia-network/

Not sure if that RING is the right one though but it can be mined I suppose.

But do you mean the standard droplet of digitalocean is enough?

The ring coin I was talking about is a different coin than the one you provided. This is fresh coin not even listed on coinmarketcap yet, and you can read about it here: https://ringcoin.tech/
Being honest I gave it only as an example - I used my vps to mine it because I had free resources and wanted to check how mining via VPS can looks like.  Unfortunately, I am not able to say about the profitability of mining because ~ 4 coins that I have mined are not listed on any exchange yet...

Nevertheless, I think mining with VPS is very expensive. Cheap VPS for a 5 - 20 dollars usually have very weak processors and for a reasonable one you have to pay a lot, so it is probably more efficient to mine with a regular PC, especially if it has an AMD processor with several cores

Just what I thought so. Probably suspend my account if I set up a VPN. But I'd like to see if he can update his success story here one day.  I'm curious since there are people mining Electroneum (ETN) which they were using mobile phones and just CPU. But probably not worth becasue of its price.

ringcoin.tech seem not listed to any exchange yet, that's not a good project to try.

Electroneum is cryptonight protocol in witch cpu's esspecially ryzen's were always doing well. About phone mining (btw it's not working now) it wasn't real mining - just application which only pretended to mine ;-) everything was about logging into the application every few days to keep your "miner" working - all to get large base of active phone users and move to another stage of projest

No it isn't yet

You can mine a coin that are minable with cpu, but i think the cpu coin are rare to find today because few of them are circulating in the market, you can try a masternode mining, you can use the vps in masternode mining and there's a lot of good POS/MN coin now that are placed in the market.
