Title: Recommended GPUs to mine - USD per day, initial cost, and power efficiency
Post by: Truthchanter on August 19, 2020, 12:33:36 PM
Hey, I used to mine ETH with 470s and 480s many years ago. I know there are newer AMD and Nvidia GPUs out now. Is there any other forum discussion on this? What GPUs do you recommend right now?

The same good and old rx 470, rx 480 that you can find, only eth is having a good return.

I heard a recommendation for Nvidia 1660 super, but it looks like AMD 5700 has good hashrate, price, and power efficiency. I used to mine with 470, 480, 570, 580s, and they are probably still good, but I'm guessing the newer ones are more worth it now?

No, don't bother, only a 5700 54mhs is closer to the return a rx 470 29mhs gives at moment but it costs $400, rx 470 8g second hand around 130 usd I guess. That is 3 x 29mhs = 87mhs x 1 54mhs, can't beat a rx 470 in that regard.

RX580 8GB can do 31-32MH/s at real power 120-130 watt
RX5700 can do 56+ MH/s at real power 130-150 watt and cost 2x as much as new RX580 ?

It depends how expensive is your electricity.
If it is free then RX580 if it is superexpensive then RX5700.

Pretty much what he said. Just make sure you buy the 8GB models or the 4GB will only run until Nov/Dec of this year. These cards are dirt cheap because there are tons of them out there and gamers typically want Nvidia. Most of the Nvidia stuff is a little more efficient and faster however even buying second hand is expensive.

If you ever tried selling any GPUs on Craiglists, you will find that when you list an Nvidia GPU, usually you get 3x the responces compared to say an AMD GPU. Hence there is less demand and prices are cheaper which is good for you. Just stick with those.

I think that the prices you have access will affect the best choice for you
At least in my country the 2 best options to buy are 5700XT doing 54Mhs on ETH and 1660 super doing 32Mhs
5700xt consumes 135 w on the wall and 1660 super 85w

There's no other viable option here, RX 570 and 580 are almost the same price of 1660 super, but the power consumption of this Nvidia is incredible, it's 85w vs 140w of RX 580

I will still say if you can find RX480 its one of the best bank for the buck GPU for mining ETH and  will give around 30MH/s for sure . so getting 8X will give you a considerable ROI.
