Title: Mt Vesuvius erupts - on this day - 79 AD Post by: Mbitr on August 24, 2020, 08:08:04 AM On this day - 24th August 79AD - Mt Vesuvius erupted destroying Pompeii and Herculaneum. The cities were buried under volcanic ash and unfortunately thousands were killed .
If you ever get to visit Italy it’s well worth taking the time to go to Pompeii or Herculaneum, it really is amazing what was discovered there and it really does give you an idea of how the people lived during the Roman Empire. I was fortunate to go there last year and highly recommend a visit :) |
