Title: Possible Malfunctioning of Bitpay App
Post by: platinumsteel2016 on August 31, 2020, 03:17:21 PM

I was able to get a mobile Electrum Mobile wallet App. So now I opened up the Bitpay Mobile App and under wallets
I went to the bitcoin wallet. I clicked on "Needs Backup". The app took me to a page that says "Receive" and "Send".
I clicked on Receive. A message came up that states "Needs Backup", and there was a tab at the bottom of the page that
reads "Write Down Recovery Phrase". I clicked on the tab it took me to a page that says Recovery Phrase that has a
pop up message that reads Enter encrypt password. The password that I use to enter the Bitpay website is the same
password I used to create the Bitpay mobile App. So I entered the password. I then received an error message. That
stated "Wrong password"...How could this be??? I never used a different password with this App or the
Bitpay website??? What happened and what do I do to correct this??? Layman terms PLEASE.

from where did you download these applications? Are there the official links (after verifying their signature) or did you download them from unknown websites?
Are you still getting your same balance or have you been hacked?

your topic is not clear.
I suggest you to re-edit your post, and change the password.

Bitpay website

1. The "Electrum wallet" part looks unrelated to the whole story and may only confuse people.
2. Since you use the services of BitPay (a commercial company more related to BCash than Bitcoin), did you actually try to reach first their customer support? They should know much better how their services go.

The passwords are not shared between the website and the app. You might have simply typed it wrong on the mobile app.

Since the wallet doesn't allow you to generate receiving addresses until you backup your wallet, then why don't you just delete the cache/data from the app and create another one?

Never used bitpay wallet but how about a request for another password in "forget password".

It's not possible to do that. The wallet is open source and gives you control over your private keys so if the seed is not saved, there is no way to recover the funds.

First, are you confusing Bitpay with Electrum? Password is definitely not the same. Encryption (which is you putting your password) is only stored on the client side, so you should have a different set of passwords. In fact if you open the same Electrum wallet on a different device, it's not encrypted (no password).
