Title: Why are Metamask and etherscan not showing the same token value?
Post by: raslimali on August 31, 2020, 05:39:19 PM
Hi everyone,
I have a token in my Metamask account and Metamask is showing me a value of $2.16 per token. When I send some tokens to another account  and check the transaction after confirmation on etherscan it shows correctly the number of tokens sent but shows a value of $0. What is wrong?

Nothing is wrong Buddy, I should ask if the coin is listed on capitalisation platforms like coinmarketcap or coinGecko. Metamask has a different operations with etherscan same with ether explorer, meanwhile etherscan only update/reflect coin's value if the coin transferred is  listed on coinmarketcap.
In case you are scared and confuse, you can still transfer the coin to listed exchange for trading as long as the coin is trading at good volume and liquidity.

This is because each platform has its own sources to fetch data about different coins and tokens, it is very similar to the fact that some coins are listed on some exchanges and not all the coins are listed on one exchange.
Similarly, these wallet platforms have different exchange and coin data which may or may not cover the details of your desired coin or token.

Not all token prices are picked by wallet data price tracker. Trust wallet is very good for tracking coin prices that are listed on site that tracks prices. One can always scan their wallet on explorer for token values if the wallet can't pick the price, this is equally dependent if the tokens are listed on site that tracks coin price.

They are right. It's either the token is registered on Metamask and it knows the value of the token that you are holding there. While in Etherscan, it's not yet added to their database and that is the reason why it shows no value.
There is nothing much to worry about it.

I often experience this, usually this happens because of a bug or it could be because the token you sent has not been verified on Etherscan, so the price is not visible. But you can use ETHplorer, usually if the price on Etherscan is not visible, on Ethplorer it is visible.
