This is a experimental project, so looking for developers who are open to make something unique. We have acquired one dev so far. We could use one more, its a simple idea. I am glad to discuss the idea privately.

The process of grabbing the first dev who shows interest without either of you verifying anything never works out.

Whatever your projects are, make sure that you are willing to tell publicly that you have funds and willing to have an escrow for the success of your project, that's what Vod is talking about. Unless, you are a liar whom can't pay developers but only want their services. Also, better include your project details in here, no one would dare steal it as long as you posted it first before they claim it. And posting it here would even help you have more ideas from other users. You shouldn't just focus on such developers, but also external opinions of many.

I spoke with him on Telegram but couldn't get much out of them as to how they intend to pay. When people start offering to pay you in tokens, it's pretty well a given flag is well deserved.

If you want to save time on filtering or choosing the right dev for your project I think the best route to go to is to go in freelancing websites and try to look in there. At least by using those websites you will see a lot of feedback on their previous work and see if they are fit for your needs. You also have the option to contact them and see if they take shares of your project or cryptocurrency but definitely they will be flexible especially if they are devs in the crypto industry.

Not worth to be payed via shares since there's no guarantee at all if they will pay that, Devs right now prefere valuable payouts plus token share for there jobs and if OP cannot provide that then its a total red flag for them since how can they support the project if they don't have any money to pay especially for their work force and others.

Agreed, plus I've been burned so many times I now require non-refundable consulting fee up front in some major crypto.

It would have made more sense if you were patient for your website to go online before asking for devs here, the value and content of your website will tell the dev what the project or idea is all about and what chances of success it's likely to have, if you project have a very high chance of success, trust me, some devs will ask for payment in eth or bitcoin and still want some part of the projects token which will in turn lessen a bit the total amount or eth or bitcoin you would have spent.

But if you are starting a big project, it is always better to draw a plan, start the company first, build a team of devs and pay them salaries on bi-weekly or monthly basis, this will help you to keep some money aside for the development of the project which is the most important.
