Title: Downloading into not safe website.
Post by: Peanutswar on September 08, 2020, 12:59:46 PM
Even there is a specific platform to download your favorite wallet still there are some people downloading the application into other websites and one of the examples is this.

Coinbase app
Code:
https://wallet.coinbase.com/
https://coinbase.com/

Helps you to direct to your Google Play or Apple Store

Also, avoid downloading an application with the use of unknown websites to prevent getting damage on those platforms.

Example:

Some of them consist of

Ransomware - they hold your information or device and to get it back you just need to pay them.

Trojan - pretends to be a useful application program to your device and will damage and steal your information.

The example you mentioned (coinbase wallet) is a closed source app. I would never recommend using it as primary wallet for anybody. Someone should not trust anybody with his money, so it's wise not to download your wallet app from unknown sources like third-party app stores, or links sent to you by emails, or ads pop-up in the websites you visited. Only download reputed apps (preferly open source which has been downloaded thousands times) and don't forget to check reviews before download and permissions before install.
Furthermore, if a wallet app is available in official store of google or apple, this doesn't mean that it's fully secure and you are still under risk to use a fake wallet app or an app containing malwares.

Download wallets or even every app for your mobile from the official market store available on the mobile itself, third party websites are not to be trusted with our privacy and money. Maybe the wallet is not going to have Ransome ware but high possibility for spyware that can track you all the time and can sell your data and sometimes the privacy-related things on the darknet for a good price.

I'm not saying APKPURE is 100% safe but I will consider them as a legit site at least from my own experience using them back when I'm still an Android enthusiast until now. It's a big help for me as an application contributor to one of the local forums before.

The site is used for downloading the .apk version of those Playstore applications. Back then, there are only a few ways to transfer Android games to other devices (those who don't want to use Playstore) that's why .apk file is needed for sending or attaching (uploading to a sharing file site).

And I think Huawei users don't have access now to Playstore*** so they need the .apk file of their preferred apps.

Obviously, for crypto-related wallets or anything that money is involved, it's always a must to download it from the original source. Always head to the main website for official download links or directory.

I also experienced this way of downloading android applications before on my android phones. Just like APKPure website or something like that.

By the way, I also tried to use some website that you will only copy the link of the app from playstore and paste it in another website,
what I am using before is this : https://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
Is this still not safe for some reason or it's still the same with some APKPure or like websites?

sometimes I'm using the Apkpure to downloading some applications I would like to use but the google play doesn't have and also those are the common application for playing and another kind of stuff but in terms of wallets like the coinbase it's better to download on their main platform too to avoid getting trouble with those not secured applications.

I'm not saying too that Google play is safe because some of the applications they publish are just a scam and I'm not saying too that the Apk pure is secured just if the money related to make sure it's coming from the original source or the legit source.

Apkpure.com is a mobile application downloader sites where you can find most of the android apps. They also have an android mobile application.

Yes, we should not download any apps without official sources. If you notice you can find that sometimes some application size is different in different websites. That means sometimes most of the time edit/modify the main application and upload it to their own downloader site. So what can be changed there, they can change the permissions, they can add some additional script to steal your personal info, they can also input hack tool there to steal people money. So I will suggest all of us to download even a little application from the official sources especially when you download a wallet for storing/transfering money.

I have created a post about before about the official sources of the top 50 coins according to cmc that time, You guys may visit > Top 50 coin's Desktop+Android+iOS wallets . Newbies be aware about fake wallet. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5220676.msg53699703#msg53699703)

I am also not aware that bitcointalk had an apk ready to be installed in apkpure.

Also, if you have the options for installing applications without using any 3rd party services, it would be much better. Don't settle for less though.

Rule of the thumb download the software or wallet on the creator's website even if the page has a good reputation and trustworthy we never know he might bundle it with a third party software, because some authors or writers are affiliated to get paid to download sites, so make it a point to only download on the creator's download page.

Thats true. If I can find the apk on the website of the creator I'd rather be downloading it there than on google play but I can see some creators website though are prompting downloaders to playstore so that is still fine for me as long as the link I got it from the creator of the website.

There are impostors on google playstore by the way, there are some app there that are created by impostors/bad actors who will just take what is in your wallet. This is sometimes the reason why I don't just approve permissions. Telegram for instance I still don;t approve them to access my drive.

I will not judge if Apkpure is legit or not, but I will never download any crypto-related wallet from there. First of all, I will discourage to use the web and custodial wallet. So noncustodial wallets should download from the official website. If really anyone wants to use web wallet apps then they should download from the official website as well. Don't trust any third party website to download any crypto wallet apps. In this way, your device would be compromised or hacked.

Will not trust this bitcointalk apk at all  ;D ;D

I think apkpure is one of the best websites online to download apk or mirror applications aside from google play store, Still, everyone would just go and download in google playstore, surely it is more secured when it comes to android.

For me everything that is downloaded online is already risky compared to just downloading in google play store, also there are some cracked applications that you could download on that websites so I guess just avoid 3rd party websites.

They are not just containing malware but they're actually wallets that are controlled by those developers *not Coinbase.

This is a very usual practice of random people, instead of going to the actual website and legit source, they'll download to a random source.

I do not understand when we have Google play store and iOS store why is there a need to download important apps from the APK website. How much credible these websites may be. adding spyware to APK files takes only few minutes for anyone who knows how to do it?

I have never used such websites and would always recommend others not to do so.

Why people download applications in any website is because of lack of information, really when we are not  informed of something we will misunderstood the basic concept of everything concerning our objectives.
Now from my views we have different measure to download  application's,I think APK is another best option of coinbase website, were we can download apprecations.

The example you mentioned (coinbase wallet) is a closed source app. I would never recommend using it as primary wallet for anybody.

But some users had been using coinbase as their primary wallet because it is the best wallet option they could have for a much convenient transactions which also supports banks near them. Even I myself use coinbase, though not primary, but I use it for some transactions and still have money in it.

Most people preferred downloading for this for various reasons and it is mainly for MOD-ed apks and cracked apps which either has payment in playstore or requires mponthly membership upon registration (ex: Spotify Premium). Those third-party website stores doesn't really have security measures when it comes to the apps uploaded onto it, but rahter they focus on ads and traffic. While, some apps also supports such websites.

Obviousy one of the safest ways to download an app is to make sure your DNS is not hijacked, open the link of the service provider, find the download button, make sure the details are the same, and then click download. There is no need to mention the risk of downloading from a third-party source that hosts various APK, since even on the Play Store or App Store itself there are multiple malwares that are available to be downloaded directly.

And the bitcointalk app is clearly a fake. There are a lot of cases like this, make sure to check or ask on the original website whether they have an app or not before downloading it.

There are a lot of unauthorised stores that uploads apps by them selves and make people download them.
And truly the most dangerous app to download there is wallet app. The best thing is to get redirected to playstore or app store from the app main site.

Some of the safe ways to download real wallet apps are by visiting official websites, such as the coinbase website. Make sure you visit the original coinbase website.

Downloading directly from third-party websites carries a higher risk of getting fake wallet applications, because many similar applications are created which aim to collect some of your data and serve as a phishing application. this would be very dangerous.

If an unofficial application that has not been entered in the Google Playstore, there will be a warning of Play Protect when installing it,
but there are several phishing applications that have escaped and entered the Playstore, and must be reported immediately, as said by @joniboini.

For the apk downloader website that you use, usually it will only download the application in the form of an .apk file, but it must also be noted that the downloaded application is exactly the same as the application that you copied the link to in the Playstore. Several websites The downloader automatically downloads the application itself when you want to start downloading. and the most dangerous are some ads that try to download automatically with various applications that we do not know. You have to be really careful when downloading from a party website when there are lots of advertisements scattered about.

They do not know the risk of downloading from third party sites, these third party sites usually are review sites but they also work as an affiliate to get paid to download sites where they bundle the legit application with the software coming from third party, they managed to insert this third party software without the down loader knowing that it is bundled with third party software, never download from a third party, just go to the creator page and download there.

No need to think of newbies hanging out here on the forum as completely stupid people.
The Google Play Store and the iOS store were not invented yesterday, and the entire Internet is replete with news that it is dangerous to download applications from unknown sources. Phones even have a warning feature about this. The only thing that can make a  person download an application with APKPure is the geographic restriction.
If, nevertheless, people manage to download applications or wallets it is not clear from where, and lose their money, this should serve them a good lesson.
Yes, sometimes just warning is useless. People need to learn from their mistakes.

When in terms of wallet, exchanges I never download from this APK site perhaps in games I have downloaded before, always go to the official website when it comes to sensitive data. What if you don't know the official website sometimes google is showing phishing? I have one trick most of these crypto related apps have coins and it listed on coinmarketcap from there you can confirm and click their official websites.

I even not see this until you've posted it and not visited that apkcure.com site as well (that makes me unaware). Quite interesting to see but better not and avoid this, I'm worried how I compromise my account having any apps just like this.

Having a lot of fake apps sprung online, fake/clone sites, it makes me bad. I have to stay away from this, ain't bother me to bookmarks legit sites than having apps.
