Title: Bitcointalk NFT tokens
Post by: zasad@ on September 15, 2020, 08:22:45 AM
More details here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5274952

What I suggest:
Release the bitcointalk NFT tokens collection

We need to:
Determine how many tokens will be?

For example, 100 pieces, 10 tokens of 10 copies each, or any other options, you can even make unique tokens in one copy.

We need
a good artist to draw pictures, for example
https://opensea.io/assets/meme-ltd

The budget depends on the number of tokens: 1-3 ETH

Your opinion?
I cannot do this without the permission of the administration

Why would Bitcointalk want/need NFT tokens?

Let's include what it is:
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) "are unique, digital items with blockchain-managed ownership. Examples include collectibles, game items, digital art, event tickets, domain names, and even ownership records for physical assets."

Why would Bitcointalk want/need NFT tokens?
Asking the real questions here!

zasad@: can you give an example of how you think this can be used on Bitcointalk?

Why would Bitcointalk want/need NFT tokens?
Reward for useful forum participants.
Buying "indulgences on the forum" :)
If the information is published on the news, it will attract more people to the forum.
This is a new modern trend, many people learn new information and possibly create new projects.

etc..

I'll take Bitcoin, thanks ;)

Seriously though, who's going to decide who's "useful"? This sounds like a new source of forum drama.

For example:
If you have 1000 Activity and 1000 merites, get NFT token number 1
If you have 1500 Activity and 1500 merites, get NFT token number 2
..

For example:
If you have 1000 Activity and 1000 merites, get NFT token number 1
If you have 1500 Activity and 1500 merites, get NFT token number 2
So it's a supplement to the Ranking system, with the exception that you can sell it?

Sell, donate, mortgage, inherit..
I think this is already a secondary issue.

Will it have actual usage ? I feel like merit will be more "valuable" than this token

yeah, but maybe for collection one would want to have NFT token more than number of merits that are fungible?
non-fungible tokens are each different from the other, and could be made rare and countable, so that you know exact number of created NFT's, because we do not know exact number of merits that will be created, and that directly influence merit scarcity

Sounds not that bad but i don't think it will ever come to life, especially as we know what theymos thinks about the altcoins/tokens thing. Even if he agrees it would be with a veeeeery low priority (= will never happen).
It was discussed earlier about a bitcointalk coin/token without success. As i said before the forum has already a coin (it's even in the name).
If you can start making money fron your account (legally) people will again flood the forum with spam, we already saw the "merit broke my life" movement :)

I won't think I will see the NFT tokens from the forum.

The one comes closely to your idea is collectible coin.
  • Bitcointalk.org collectible coin? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5111005) (theymos)
  • Bitcointalk.org collectible coin ideas & vote (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5191127.0)

Why make it so complicated if you could simply make Merits tradable... [and moreover: why is my spell checker marking "tradable"?]

That being said, I'm not saying I find this a good idea. Look at how much abuse some of the bounty campaigns sometimes cause, so brace yourself if you're launching a bounty for 'useful' posting...

Exactly what I was thinking.  I know absolutely nothing about NFTs (I read a little about them but can't figure out their significance) but I'm not sure if they'd be useful to bitcointalk.

And what does this mean?:

Buying "indulgences on the forum" :)

And who holds and distributes the tokens?  I would assume it would have to be a staff member, and they'd have to be trusted--though I don't know how much they'd be worth anyway.  But my main question would be how they'd be distributed.  Having a certain amount of activity/merits has been suggested, but I'm just not sure what you'd get them for and whether they'd even be worth owning.

This is a new modern trend, many people learn new information and possibly create new projects.

i think you mean the new short term hype, because that's what they are. and it is only hyped up because there were money to be made creating token after token. the hype will die off the moment it stops being profitable too, as we have seen it ebbing away for the past 2 years.

^snip

Non-fungible means no privacy, i doubt anyone would choose NFT over cryptocurrency or token.

why do you mean that NFT means no privacy? NFT means that each token is different, but you cannot know the real identity of the owner, based on NFT only, i do not understand how do you mean that there is no privacy?

it would just need to include ETH address to each account, if forum decide to deploy Ethereum NFT, for example ERC-721, 821 or 1155 protocol

I'm pretty much happy with Bitcoin, we don't really need another token. Plus, it's Bitcointalk for a reason :D

I know some people have digital collection (such as virtual cats on CryptoKitties), but i doubt it'll be popular.

That thing was so huge in 2017 and one cat was apparently traded for 6 figures in ETH.

And what does "buying concessions on the forum" mean?
That is, you can buy instead of a ban? Instead of a scammer's red trust? What else can weaken this "harsh" forum?
It seems to me that if there is a possibility of fraud laundering, this token will find its buyer, and you can guess which one.

NFTs seem perhaps maybe less than useful for bitcointalk. I would propose something that might fit in a little more here. Bitcointalk branded microwave popcorn. That way you can enjoy some bitcointalk brand popcorn while reading the latest drama. Perhaps even a brand of tea to go along with it.

Countdown until someone creates BSV themed Cool-Aid packets.

Seems like I missed out on this, did it ever get stored somewhere for stats and stuff? Any intend to make it a real one?
