Title: Bitcoin sent 2 hours ago with zero confirms
Post by: Gazza1 on March 23, 2014, 05:42:29 PM
What gives?  This is directly from the new wallet to coinbase.

was I suppsed to make a new wallet.dat and redownload the blockchain?  all I did was replace the program files. the other stuff shouldn't have to be done in my mind as that would create massive chaos with people and all their bitcoins.

so what's going on?

Put your TXID on blockchain to see the progress. How much fee did you pay for the transaction ? If your fee was zero, so no surprise  ;D

If your payment is on this list, no worries: https://blockchain.info/nl/unconfirmed-transactions

If you are using 0.9 'standard' fees you are likely to have a bad time.

The devs unilaterally dropped fees by a factor of 10.  Unless all the large miners agree, there are going to be a lot of slow confirmations over the next few weeks.
Could you explain in simple terms, what fee should we use to send 1 BTC if we want to see some confirmations within 30 minutes?

I see this question come up all the time, maybe there should be a sticky announcement or something...

If that 1 btc is not fragmented (not made up of lots of smaller amounts), 0.0001 fee will be fine.
If that 1 btc is made up of 10 smaller 0.1 btc transactions, 0.0002 fee should be ok, 0.0003 fee to be safe.
If made up of 100 small 0.01 transactions, need at least 0.0025 fee.

depending on the amount of fees you pay your transaction is either up to the top of the first ones to be accepted or if you pay low fee its down at the bottom.

Usually 0.0001 will be much fine for 1 btc confirmations. If you have 1 btc long time in wallet, you can try to send without fee.

They did no such thing. The minimum fee in version 0.9 is still BTC0.0001 per kB.

If I have 1btc, I would not try to save the 0.0001 fee and make myself worry about transactions not confirming

Read the wiki:https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees).  It does an excelent job of explaning transaction priority and how fees affect the priority.
