Title: 3990x for mining Post by: andy.arden on September 26, 2020, 09:22:45 PM Hey guys, any experiences with 3990x cpu? Want to build a pc i am going to use at other stuff but wondering if this cpu i can use to mine something that will make this pay a bit for what is it worth. Any suggestions will be truly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. my 3970x thread-ripper earns 1.50 to 1.80 a day mining ⛏ 24/7 i downclocked the freq to 3200 i downclocked the volts to 1.1 i use nicehash to mine xmr with it. i use 128gb ram i use a 500 gb aorus 4th gen nvme.2 i use various gpus. 1080 1080ti 1660 1660ti amd 5500 xt amd 5600 xt amd 5700 xt amd 5700 all have been run on this rig at one time or another i use an asus prime mobo the 449 price model i use a corsair 1500 psu and i use a large bequiet air cooled cooler vs water block keeps gear at about 58c Title: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: batsonxl on September 28, 2020, 05:14:04 PM not good idea because mb also very expensive for that cpu. instead buy 3900. For that money you can buy 2 3900 and 2 mb. and will be ease to sell you will not loose to much value.

It is a costly build but he did say he wanted to do other work. https://www.newegg.com/asus-prime-trx40-pro/p/N82E16813119219? mobo 410 usd https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-threadripper-3990x/p/N82E16819113620? 3990x 3599 usd https://www.newegg.com/be-quiet-dark-rock-tr4/p/13C-001F-00029? cooler 89 usd https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-aorus-1tb/p/N82E16820009012? 4th gen nvme 1tb ssd 189 https://www.newegg.com/oloy-64gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820821216? ram 4 sticks are 458 I have all the parts above except I went for the cheap cpu the 3970x build above = 4745 no case or psu. my builds us the 3960x and the 3970 x 1299 + 1699 = 2998 2 cpus. 2292 for 2 rigs mobos ram ssds etc so I went for 5290 for 2 rigs. I get 23+29 = 52 for hashing xmr I have 4 3900 rigs. they do 12 easy so 4 x 12 = 48 for hashing cost about. 1100 each to build or 4400 Title: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: Stanlo on September 29, 2020, 06:02:35 PM Hey guys, any experiences with 3990x cpu? Thanks in advance. Threadripper 3990x CPU are the best for Monero (RandomX ) Algorithm presently followed by EPYC high end CPU, to cut the story short you will be able to earn 2.92$ per day mining with 3990x CPU presently, just make sure your setup has good air flow or enough cooling setupTitle: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: JayDDee on September 29, 2020, 06:57:41 PM not good idea because mb also very expensive for that cpu. instead buy 3900. But if buying a CPU for mining, I agee, the 3900X is more cost effective. It's also great for a combo CPU/GPU rig. Title: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: ManuBBXX on September 30, 2020, 07:40:53 PM Is it possible to mine both on the same rig ( my gaming rig ) with the CPU (considering buying next Ryzen 5900 in 1 month for gaming + 3D rendering) and the GPU (1080TI for now, 3080 when they are in stock) ?
Isn't it 'too much' mining both with CPU and GPU at the same time on the same Rig ? Totally possible, a lot of people mine with CPU + GPU to maximize the profits and waste less power Here in my personal rig I have a 5700xt and a 1660 super, and with a Ryzen 1700 (old, but good), and I leave the GPUs mining with Nicehash and I mine Veruscoins with CPU, it's more profitable for me than XMR It's easy to have both mining, no problem, just be sure to have a good PSU and a good airflow Title: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: ManuBBXX on September 30, 2020, 08:22:27 PM Is it possible to mine both on the same rig ( my gaming rig ) with the CPU (considering buying next Ryzen 5900 in 1 month for gaming + 3D rendering) and the GPU (1080TI for now, 3080 when they are in stock) ? But is it worth it, with the TDP on an high end CPU, compared to adding another GPU ? For cooling, I have a custom full EK wc loop on both GPU + CPU, with a 420 mm rad, I guess it could be enough And a 850W Asus Rog Thor PSU, juste for the ryzen and the future 3800 Title: Re: 3990x for mining Post by: nsummy on September 30, 2020, 08:54:51 PM Considering AMD is unveiling Zen 3 next Thursday, its probably best to wait and see what the new processors and prices will be before seriously considering anything.
