Title: BTC mining with RTX3080
Post by: aswin123adam on September 29, 2020, 07:42:08 AM
So I am a gamer who is into FPS games like siege valorant and apex . Tried preordering RTX 3080 after I heard its gonna be a great product to mine BTC with .

The pre-order went like a shitshow and unfortunately I couldnt checkout anything . I already have a 2060 Super 8GB which I mostly use for gaming and its pretty good for mining too but it heats up a lot more than when I use it for gaming since its not that much of a pretty setup .
Thats the reason i'm planning to buy 2 3080 to create a dedicated mining setup .

Then I read an article online comparing the use of FE graphics cards vs using used up chinese graphics cards to mine and as a conclusion I thought I could just hold my thought of making a new mining setup with 2 3080 and wait till I can get some used up 3080 chinese card to create a setup .

is this the right decision to make ??

I know it could take a some time before these things are available but I think the end results will be worth it .

No GPU is worth didley for mining BTC.
The crapcoin alts - sure, but forget about mining BTC with it.
Along those lines the proper area for posting about altcoin stuff is here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0). This one where you posted is for BTC only.

you are going to be moved to alt coins or deleted .

this board is for directly mining etc with an asic machine.

you want to go to my thread in alt coins and read up on using a pool like nice hash to mine an alt coin then have nicehash conversation it to btc automatically.

my thread.

a 3080 thread for you

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5277738.0

note I asked the mod to move you to alt coins.

and I copied these to my thread in case he deletes you.

Wrong information mate, RTX3080 or even 3090 isn't powerful enough to mine bitcoin, you can only mine Ethereum or other altcoins with these cards, they are best for mining Ethereum right now, I heard they pull up to 94MHS per card, very good performance for the money.

well if you mine at nicehash it auto converts to btc

So 94mh earns about 0.0281 usd per mhs or 90 x 0.0281 = $2.529 before power use.

so at nice hash it simply converts the to btc.

at viabtc you would get eth coin

So the info it not exactly wrong it is misunderstood.

Well, is not the op at fault here, the media says "bitcoin miners" as refiring to mining in general and common people believe their gpus can be used to mine bitcoin and then they come here believing they can get rich fast with 1 or 2 gpus, it's hilarious ehhe

those days are looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong gone. even if you mine with a few gpus back then you should have hodl for a few years to make a significant amount of money.

If he likes gaming and wants a killer rig:

with 2 gpus and a ryzen 9 3900 with 64gb ram nice ssd yada yada yada

He can use 2x 3080 =   1400-1500 usd if he can find them
quality nvme m2 1tb for   200
64gb ram for                   220
good platinum psu for      200
mobo for                        150
case for                          100
cooler for                        100

comes to about 2500

rig will earn 5-6 usd a day with constant mining ,  but this is really a lower high end full purpose rig.

in 450 to 500 days it could be paid off

a true high end rig

threadripper 3970x    1800
2x 3080 ------------    1500
128gb ram ---------      440
hi end plat psu -----      260
mobo ---------------       420
case -----------------     100
cooler ---------------     100

total 4620  earns about 8 usd a day due to the cpu mining xmr

nets about 6 a day with power so in 770days it good be paid off as 770 x 6 = 4620

Over 2 years to break even? Damn, I'd rather dabble in stocks and be richer way faster ;D
