Blockchain services firm Diginex has become the first crypto exchange operator to list on Nasdaq. The stock went live Thursday morning under the “EQOS” ticker symbol, a nod to the firm’s EQUOS.io trading platform. Diginex’s back door listing came through a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) called 8i. After raising private capital and redeeming shares of the SPAC, the company now has $50 million in capital for strengthening its balance sheet and investing in the business. Diginex CEO Richard Byworth said he expects a mix of global retail and institutional investors to buy shares. I assume they'll still be based out of Singapore?
Also, I can't find information about them with my brokerage's research tools. There's this odd statement that I've never heard describe another corporation before: Quote 8i Enterprises Acquisition Corp. is a blank check company. **Source: TD Ameritrade**So what is Diginex exactly? Are they an exchange? I've never heard of them before, nor the 8i company that presumably was the original company behind the stock. True, I've probably not heard of a lot of foreign exchanges, but you'd think I'd have heard of one that's now listed on the NASDAQ. Anyway. It'll be interesting to see how it performs.
