@JollyGood after seeing the group in which Tottenham have been placed I’m pretty sure, that they’ll be making it past the group stage. Furthermore they’ll be very strong as the tournament progresses ahead as they’ll have Bale and Vinicius playing for them too, hence I expect them to at least reach the semifinal’s. Lastly I also expect Arsenal, Ac Milan and Leicester City to progress ahead, and if they don’t then I’ll be disappointed because I really wish to see these teams play in the next round.

AC Milan are in a difficult zone, with the results against Rio Ave and bodo/glimt, being in second position feels like it requires hard work from the players. Because, They meet teams that have a history of being champion in their respective leagues. The journey begin for AC Milan players, lack of the rest time and meet big team on UEL.

Of the both teams mentioned @Rio Ave and Bodo glint, AC Milan remains the top dog to them both and as such, they've got a shot. Especially with the impressive game play they've had so far, winning all 3points to themselves.

I think it goes without say all three EPL teams will progress far in the competition. Arsenal, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur will be going far, not much doubt in my mind about that.

Roma, Rapid Vienna, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Napoli, AC Milan, CSKA Moscow and Feyenoord will have a massive say in what happens in this competition. Some of those clubs I listed are giants, they should have been in the Champions League group stage but have to make do with the Europa League because of failings last season.

The europa league this season is one that will be filled with excitements because there are new faces; and i can tell that everyone is raring and daring to go after sevilla triumph this season.

For english clubs, Spurs, Arsenal, and Leicester; the europa league will be a test for their squad depth and the mentality of the players in a rushed and fixture congested campaign season. I see all three teams coming out of the group stages.

I see Group A, C, D, F and L as strong groups, a big season ahead in the europa league.

AC Milan continues its determination as a club that has unbeaten since the lock down ended. Milan won convincingly in the match against Celtic making Milan continue to pressure Lille, which is a club also under Elliot's management. Hauge managed to score his first goal for Rossoneri in this match. As there is a hope for Milan to compete for title in the UEFA League this season (maybe).

@masulum I’ll second that as Ac Milan have completely changed how they used to play, and I’m glad that I learned my lesson against betting on them in the Milan derby, and yesterday I got it right by wagering on them.

Furthermore they can definitely qualify for the UEFA champions league by winning the Europa cup, but their over reliance on Zlatan (39 year old) can upset their plans as he won’t be able to play all the matches in this season.

Zlatan is a lucky old horse. His activeness has really reduced and I think the team is going to have some difficulty with him this season. His performance level has dropped unlike before even when in PSG, I hope he is thinking of retiring now.

Lots of substitutions in that game, especially on Celtic's side. It makes me worry about their ability to advance to UEFA Europa knockouts, since Lille won against Sparta Prague 1-4. Even though Sparta Prague got a red card so they must have collapsed after that, I wouldn't rule out Lille's offensive ability.

By the way, Celtic's 3-5-1-1 formation is quite exotic. I've never seen so many people play midfielder at once.

If AC Milan board see how Zlatan give impact for their team, I think Milan will keep Ibrahimovic, but maybe in other position next season if Ibra decided to retired, or Milan can keep him as players maybe on the bench to keep younger players have a mentor's.

since Lille won against Sparta Prague 1-4.
Lille also have a good history, and they are also a "sleeping giant" in League1, this can be the crucial match for Milan,  Draw maybe the good results for Milan if they are can't win this match.

Maybe it's too early to win AC Milan to become a strong candidate to win the Europa League this season, although almost seven at the start of this season Milan won 100% of victories I am not so sure about AC Milan's consistency until the first half ended. How was the condition of AC Milan last year which was superior when it was still early - the beginning of the season and the end of the season, they had to struggle to get a ticket to the European league qualifiers. Maybe it's only a few weeks that AC Milan is able to appear consistently, until week 8 or 10 it could be that Milan will start to be inconsistent and lose every match in the future.

It feels sad that I missed not one but all of this games. I guess I'll have to watch the high light of a couple. It seems Bayern Leverkusen have followed the line of their German champions Bayern Munich in the goal scoring. A lot of wins I see with just too draws. I guess win bettors are surely smiling. I was hoping @Jollygood that you would drop the scores for each match as you do in most of your sports thread. I get the games are too much but then, I might just have to release you of this round.

PFC CSKA-Sofia 0-2 CFR Cluj
Young Boys 1-2 Roma

Steven Gerrard has got Rangers doing great this season, they’re really going to fight Celtic for the SPL & they’re on course for 3 wins out of 3 in the EL. They’re beating Benfica 2-1 away at half time, Benfica are down to 10 men but even so it’s a tough place to go so a win there would be incredible.

The first matches of tonight have finished. Benfica-Rangers was a really close match. Firstly, Benfica took the lead by 1-0. After that, they got a red card and the advantage passed to Rangers. They benefited from this situation and bring the score to 1-3. Despite playing with 10 players, Benfica didn't give up and succeed in bringing the score to 3-3 and saved 1 point. When I see matches like this, I start loving football more than before.

@JollyGood last night Tottenham player’s answered Mourinho's call to show a strong performance after their last week's defeat, and it’s also pertinent to note that Kane reached the milestone of scoring 200 goals for Tottenham. Furthermore Ac Milan can take this loss in a positive manner, because it’ll help them introspect on what went wrong, and how they can improve their performances in their upcoming fixtures.

@JollyGood it was a night where Manchester United showed that they can yet challenge for trophies, and hopefully they’ll carry this form into premier league as well. Also it was a big night for Mourinho who was under scrutiny, and even Bale who till now was termed as a flop on his return back to Tottenham.

Tottenham went into the Europa League last 16 beating Wolfsberger 8-1 on aggregate.

Spurs already won the first leg 4-1 then won the return leg 4-0. Alli scored an overhead kick, even Bale is scoring for them now. Well done to Tottenham who fielded a weakened team to keep players fresh for their next EPL game.

@JollyGood Tottenham had already secured their passage in the last 16 after they had scored those 4 goals last time they had played against Wolfsberger, and this fixture was nothing but a formality for them.

Also it’s pertinent to highlight that not only Bale performed in this match, but Ali also showed us all that he’s yet the top class player he once used to be, and Mourinho even gave chance to Tottenham‘s youngsters to get some game time.

Olympiakos FC 1-3 Arsenal

It was one of the enjoyable matches of the night for sure. Arsenal got a very solid performance despite playing away and they got a huge advange by totally destroying Olympiacos. After equalizing the score, Olympiacos tried desperately not to lose this but Arsenal were really dedicated to win and finished them by scoring 2 more goals in the last 10 minutes (80', 85'). Elneny's goal was really worth seeing.  ;D

Villareal, AC Milan, Rangers and Arsenal all have away goals to their advantage when the teams play each other next time on 18th March 2021. It will be interesting to see how the games play out  ;D

Elneny's goal was really worth seeing.  ;D

@JollyGood Manchester United were awful and should have been beaten 4 - 0 by AC Milan, but unfortunately their goals were disallowed and it allowed Manchester United to escape with a draw. Also I feel that AC Milan will easily beat Manchester United when they next meet on 18th March, what do you all think of my opinion?.

I think 4-0 would have been too generous but AC Milan played well enough to at least get the draw. Overall 2-1 would have been a fair result in my opinion.

@JollyGood I totally agree with the first prediction, this game Arsenal should win it easily, but I doubt that Tottenham game will end in a draw cause they have been scoring lots of goals in the Europa League. Also I disagree that AC Milan will draw this match, because they were the better team against Manchester United, and hence I expect them to beat Manchester United.

Tottenham are out after being beating 3-0 on the night when they already winning 2-0 from the first leg. Humiliating defeat for Spurs and what does not help is when Mourinho puts the blame on his players when he speaks to the media.

Spurs captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris seems to echo what the manager is saying by blaming the poor attitude of players and calling it a disgrace: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/mar/19/lloris-spurs-defeat-disgrace-togetherness-lacking-dinamo-zagreb

Good results tonight and you got this prediction accurately; but did you watch the Mufc tie? it was as if the referee had an agenda against Manchester United; 12 fouls by both teams and Granada only got a yellow card; while Mufc players got 5 yellow cards.

If Roma can knock out Ajax; while Manchester United knock out Granada; it could be a good win for Manchester United if they put in better performances. MUFC head to the second leg with a 2 goal lead, and away goal rule.

Tadic played an amazing game for ajax today but that penalty miss from him killed them in the end. Plus the young goalkeeper with a rookie mistake
At this stage does mistakes cannot be made. Ajax was much better but Roma won ,realisticly ajax has a chance if they play like this

@JollyGood I wasn’t expecting Manchester United to win this game, but in the end they  won the game quiet comfortably.  (https://www.skysports.com/football/granada-vs-manchester-united/report/442570) Also  Arsenal draw isn’t surprising at all,  (https://www.skysports.com/football/arsenal-vs-slavia-prague/report/442568) because they are a lost side this season and don’t have that winning attitude anymore.

Hmmm, your predictions are very questionable. Manchester United have been imperious in Europa League action since dropping down from the Champions League, as they previously dismissed Spanish sides Real Sociedad and Granada 4-0 on aggregate. I don’t expect AS Roma to succumb easily to Manchester United. Moreover, Edin Džeko has scored more goals against Manchester United than any other English club in his career and all of them have come at Old Trafford, so I expect him to bag another one tonight.

Manchester United really showed their quality today after being left behind 1-2 in the first half, finally Manchester United was able to turn things around by bombarding the As Roma goal 6-2, with a pretty bad score, it felt like Manchester United had managed to secure a ticket to final because it is clear of course As Roma will find it very difficult to reply in the second leg later, but unfortunately in other matches, Arsenal was forced to acknowledge the greatness of the villareal 2 -1 and it looks like the villareal coach really understood how to destroy the arsenal of play from the first minute of the match.

Manchester United managed to win but full credit to Roma because even after the first half substitutions Roma were forced in to making they were winning 1-2 at half time. Unless something special happens in Italy during the 2nd leg Manchester United will be in the final.

Arsenal lost their game but have the away goal. It is still possible for an all English Europa League final but I think Manchester United will play Villarreal in the final unless Arsenal score a goal and stop Villarreal from scoring.

The truth is that Roma was outpassed, outplayed, outmuscled, out marked, outran, outscored, out dribbled and outknuckled
Italian teams were satisfactory, intermediate at best this season. Even the french side posed more threat. What a terrible performance for a semi-final shocked.

I predict Man U vs Vil for final

@JollyGood you got the scoreline right for Arsenal match, but you just chose the wrong team to win, and all credit goes to Villarreal player’s as they dominated the match. Furthermore I fee thatl Arsenal can’t recover from this defeat, and it’s about time they hunt for a new coach as  under Arteta they’re absolutely poor. (https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/56933943)

That will happen most likely. Arteta isn't good with the coaching team and this is the main reason for this cloudy atmosphere at the club. How he did not change Ceballos despite the yellow card is looked even more foolish.

Roma had a strong period of 15-20 minutes when they gave problems to Manchester United. I think 6-2 was a surprise result for most of us because it was not expected.

Arsenal going 2-0 down was a surprise but at least they managed to get an away goal. They might make it to the final but it will be tough.

Arteta might not be the manager and source of stability Arsenal are looking for. It is a huge job, Arsenal should have appointed a manager with a track record not one who was working as assistant under Guardiola. I think Arsenal tried to get a young former player to take the managerial position trying to emulate what Manchester United did by appointing Solskjær but while it seems to be working for Manchester United it does not seem to be working for Solskjær.

Emery knows how to go to the finals of the Europa League, there is no equal to him. He is just as good at winning the finals, let's see how he does it with Manchester United. Manchester is very good, but this is the final, the game can be neat and I think there will be not many goals.

It will be an interesting match to watch because both teams feels they should be in the Champions League but both are absent. It looks like years of decline for Barcelona before things might get better for them.

Because of the sudden excite iyf Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus were in their worst form, this is the club that is the strongest among Italian clubs in UCL, the club had made it to quarter final and semi final many times, but hard for Juventus to win. All other Italian clubs there are just playing but not good enough, I have noticed this many times before, seeing some Italian clubs not among the clubs playing UCL this season again is not surprising me as they got disqualified. Barcelona were in there worst form this season, the club was not playing as expected in La Liga Santander this season before, but luckily they made it from 8th position to the now 5th position with one match behind, competing with Real Betis and Atletico Madrid for the third and fourth position. Napoli is playing good in Seria A but I do not know if they have the experience to play outside Seria A with other big clubs.

This game reminds me of the last 16 of the Champions League two seasons ago (2019/2020). Barcelona managed to come out as winners with 4-2 aggregate. Now Barcelona will be back against Napoli in the Europa League. Barcelona must accept the reality of playing in the Europa League after their poor form throughout this season. I'm not so sure Barcelona can go to the next round, because Napoli are not an easy team to beat. Napoli have a squad and pattern of play that cannot be underestimated, especially Barcelona inconsistent performance after reaping bad results at the start of the season. I would say Napoli will go into the next round and take their revenge on barcelona.

I agree with you, and this will be the first time that Barcelona play a match in the second European competition since the 2003-04 season, when they reached the round of 16. That is, it is the first game of Barcelona since the competition has that name.
It's a shame that Xavi won't be able to count on Dani Alves, but I hope they have time to have Memphis Depay back for this game.... I was hoping for a victory for Barça against one of the most powerful teams in this competition.

You say Barcelona, I say Napoli  ;D

It will be an interesting match to watch because both teams feels they should be in the Champions League but both are absent. It looks like years of decline for Barcelona before things might get better for them.

It will surely be a big challenge for Barcelona though they have prepared for this a lot. Napoli has been really consistent and it was hard for any team to easily beat them. I just hope that Barcelona would give their 100% shot for this so they could gain a good spot again.

I think Napoli along with Dortmund are favourites to win the tournament because the other teams including Barcelona are not equipped to win it. Barcelona will take years to recover from their financial issues and the team is urgent need of a rebuild.

I went through the fixture list again. Can anybody see a bigger clash than Barcelona vs Napoli? This is the stand out game for me and probably has to be for most. I think Napoli will win over the course of two games and qualify for the next round.

I agree with you, and this will be the first time that Barcelona play a match in the second European competition since the 2003-04 season, when they reached the round of 16. That is, it is the first game of Barcelona since the competition has that name.

Napoli pattern of a play was very good when they drew 1-1 with Inter Milan in week 24, From all lines of a play Napoli are very solid, their defense was very neat even though in the 47th minute they had to concede by Edin Dzeko.
Barcelona will be overwhelmed to get a win from Napoli, especially now that Barcelona performance is not fully stable, in the last game they had to share points with Espanyol.  Barcelona needs time to reach their peak again, I think a Barcelona will end the season without a title.

Please, just a question, I noticed you are only discussing about Europa League here, what about Europa conference league, is there any active thread for it also?

Barcelona vs Napoli
Borussia Dortmund vs Rangers
Sheriff Tiraspol (Mol) vs Braga
Zenit St. Petersburg vs Real Betis
Atalanta vs Olympiakos FC
FC Porto vs Lazio
RB Leipzig vs Real Sociedad
Sevilla vs Dinamo Zagreb

I went through the fixture list again. Can anybody see a bigger clash than Barcelona vs Napoli? This is the stand out game for me and probably has to be for most. I think Napoli will win over the course of two games and qualify for the next round.
I can not go for any of the two, Napoli is playing good but I do not have confidence on any Seria A matches outside their league for now, any club between them can win this game, but I can go for first half over 0.5, or both team score or over 2.5.

I would have preferred to go for Borussia Dotmumd, Atlanta and Sevilla to win which I think are more reliable.

@JollyGood I wouldn’t underestimate Barcelona just yet, because even with limited player’s they are yet a strong team and they can stun Napoli if they don’t take them seriously. Also Dortmund haven’t been in top form this season, hence I won’t be surprised if they end up losing, therefore I’m wondering if anyone else is feeling motivated to wager against them.

Barcelona's appearance was quite good against Napoli, The aggressiveness of the Barcelona players in the early minutes made the Napoli a defense panic. Luckily Napoli managed to steal 1 goal at Camp Nou, they need a draw (0-0) in the 2nd leg to ensure they qualify for the next phase.

What happened to Borussia Dortmund ???
The 2-4 defeat at Signal Iduna Park was a very painful blow, especially since Borussia Dortmund became the seeded team in this match. This match incised a red record for Dortmund, because this is Dortmund worst defeat while competing in the Europa League.
The defeat against Rangers is the responsibility of all Dortmund players, they need an improvement in the second leg to get a ticket to qualify for the next phase.

I make Napoli favourites to qualify for the next round. Rebuilding and moulding Barcelona will take Xavi several years, Barcelona are no longer a powerful European team on the same level as Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and even Real Madrid.

Considering this is European football and many strange things have taken place before, I would not be surprised if Dortmund win 0-2 in Glasgow to make it 4-4 on aggregate. Ranger are not through yet because this Dortmund team can still be a force even though they are not playing well right now.

I also see that Napoli chances of qualifying for the next round are quite large. The 2nd leg will be played at Napoli headquarters, Obviously Napoli will benefit greatly when playing the 2nd leg. Napoli has 1 away goal and the second Napoli will get a full support from their superter.

I have no doubts about Dortmund quality, they still have 90 minutes to make amends in the first leg. Chasing a deficit of 2 goals is not a difficult thing for Dortmund, Hopefully in the 2nd Leg Dortmund can be strengthened by their mainstay striker (Erling Haaland) who missed the first leg due to a muscle injury.

Dortmund still have a job to do against Rangers after the shock loss but they are capable of managing a 0-2 or 0-3 win. Everybody was surprised how Rangers managed to win 2-4 in Germany. Rangers will struggle to keep up the pressure in the return game while Dortmund will go all out for a win.

As for Napoli, I think they will win the match and it will be the end of the road for Barcelona in this competition. They had their time in European competition but now they are on the decline.

Has anyone watched the match between Sevilla and Dinamo?
Sevilla won relatively convincingly in the end but the Dinamo deserved a much better result.
Sevilla have once again shown that they can win on routine, experience and greater individual quality of players, even when they are not playing well as a team.
Small details ruled, but everything is still open and possible in the return match.
Seville was really born for this competition  ;D

The draw obtained by the two teams was indeed a deserved result considering that Napoli played quite neatly in defense while Barcelona struggled to score goals where they only managed to score against Napoli through the white point.but hopes for Barcelona have not been completely dispelled considering that there are still the 2nd leg that Xavi Hernandez's team could take advantage of, especially at that time Napoli played defensively so it was quite difficult for Barcelona to develop the game, but if both teams had played openly then it is not impossible that Barcelona could steal a goal at Napoli's headquarters in the second match later I am very sure that Barcelona will qualify for the next round

If the away match result was 1 - 1, the home match for Napoli will be very different, I think Napoli will win this match, even if Barcelona try to score like a goal, I am going for Napoli, Barcelona is having its worst season ever since many years ago.

I prefer watching and checking the lives scores for UEFA Champions League, if what is happening there is happening in Europa league, that means Borussia Dortmund can still win but I am still thinking this can not be possible because the surprise that always happens is when the away team was won and later the second match when the away team is a home will change and the losing team before which is now home will qualify. But Borussia Dortmund was at home this time and was won.

@JollyGood I have been saying it for quiet a while now all Barcelona needed was the right player’s, and in January they secured two vital signings. Furthermore I had even said it aloud that Auba would be the one to lead them to a victory, and in the end he managed to help them win which shows that this Barcelona side can improve a lot if they can just get 2 - 4 player’s more as Xavi’s method are clearly working.

Hopefully the draw in the first leg can be an evaluation material for Barcelona, in order to dismantle Napoli's defense because of course Napoli will return to playing with a defense scheme and relying on counter attacks, although I am very optimistic like you if Barcelona will qualify for the next phase, but of course it's not an easy job for Xavi Hernandez's children, after all Napoli will also fight with all their might to get rid of Barcelona, moreover the second leg will be held at Napoli Headquarters of course Admosver San Paul Stadium or Diago Armando Maradona will boost the spirit of the Napoli players to fight to the end -all to be able to beat Barcelona in front of his own supporters,

I have not updated this thread recently therefore it was about time to post here again. These are the results from the quarter-final first leg that took place yesterday 7th April 2022:

https://i.postimg.cc/1zW5VqRB/uefa1-Copy.png

With the results there is no clear indication as to which teams will qualify for the semi-finals. West Ham will have a tough game in France against Lyon therefore it is difficult to choose a favourite. Barcelona will have home advantage for the second leg and should qualify but Rangers were the only team that lost yesterday yet they also will have home advantage in the second leg against Braga. RB Leipzig and Atalanta will have a tough game too.

@JollyGood while Manchester United was defeated things would have been different had Ronaldo’s offside  goal (https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/EPL/Manchester-United-0-1-Real-Sociedad-5-Talking-Points-as-Cristiano-Ronaldo-disappoints-in-controversial-defeat-%7C-UEFA-Europa-League-2022-23/2903586) stood, and that ridiculous penalty wasn’t awarded. Furthermore another surprise defeat was Roma, because I felt that Mourinho’s  Roma (https://football-italia.net/europa-league-ludogorets-2-1-roma-upset-in-bulgaria/) would easily win this match but it looks like that he will have to work on then harder to get the desired result he wants.

@JollyGood Manchester United won once again due to Erik ten Hag tactics and what an impact  Anthony (https://www.football365.com/news/ten-hag-hails-antony-and-garnacho-impact-as-man-utd-boss-reveals-second-half-masterplan) had, because I remember that he was being criticised a lot for his performances recently. However  Rashford (https://www.90min.com/posts/erik-ten-hag-marcus-rashford-injury-update-carabao-cup-final) seems to be injured which is not a good sign for the club, and if he suffers any long term injury then Manchester United will find it difficult to win the Europa league.

Anthony played well when he came on as a substitute, he nearly set up Rashford for a goal before he scored his goal but he needs to be consistent and he must have more of an end product. Anthony cannot just run at defenders and then not provide the perfect cross or assist, he has to do more otherwise he will continue being substituted.

Even though they had a bad first half, Manchester United went on to dominate the second half and won the game. As a team they seem to have found a very good combination and balance as they have players with pace that frighten opposition such as Rashford, Anthony and Garnacho while they also have Casemiro, Fernandes, Varane, Shaw, Dalot and Martinez who show composure.

In the commentary during the game yesterday they said Manchester United were the only team left in the top 5 divisions in European leagues which could still theoretically win the quadruple  :o
