Title: Any solution to this problem - Failed to execute script run_electrum?
Post by: Bitcoin_Arena on October 05, 2020, 10:16:23 PM
I tried opening my electrum wallet today and it won't load. I just keep getting the "Failed to execute script run_electrum" error

I haven't tampered with any of it's files before and haven't installed any new software into my PC
My electrum version is still 3.3.8

Do you want to try the newer version - 4.0.2 or 4.0.3? I tried both versions opening my wallet and didn't encounter any problem. I got in without any delay or issue. Also, is there a reason why you are sticking to the older version?

I just searched for this and found the following topic created by OmegaStarScream. Follow suggestions given in this thread. Seems that they worked for OmegaStarScream.

Error when executing Electrum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5130553.0)

Thanks. I think it was one of those windows background updates messing up with the wallets. So When I rebooted the computer and let the updates finish installing. The wallet now works just fine.

Also, is there a reason why you are sticking to the older version?
No big reason except maybe having to restore a number of my wallets, but I will soon do that.

You shouldn't need to restore anything... if you run the installer for 4.0.3, it'll just overwrite the old version of Electrum, but it won't remove/modify any wallet files and you'll be able to see all your existing wallets without needing to do anything.

Wallets are stored in the datadir (on windows: %AppData%\Electrum)... the application binaries are stored in C:\Program Files\Electrum... It's the binaries that are modified when you update, the datadir is unchanged!
