Title: BitcoinTalk's 2020 Champions League Pool Sign Up Thread £25 in bitcoin to join
Post by: hilariousandco on October 14, 2020, 01:27:09 PM
For the past few years I've organised betting pools for the English Premier League (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4479837.0) along with the Champions League (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4919683.msg44289685#msg44289685) and the World Cup (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4130568.msg38157956#msg38157956) and now I'm starting one for the upcoming Champions League which starts on the 20th of October.

We will be using the www.superbru.com website again for both tournaments where you get 3 points for predicting an exact score, 1 point for a correct outcome (win/lose/draw) and 1.5 for a close prediction with correct outcome.

To join the pool it will be around £25 in bitcoin. The Champion's League starts next Tuesday but due to starting the sign-up process for the pool quite late I won't collect money in until a month or so, so if you want to play please state your interest and I will send you a link to join the pool. Please only sign up if you have the intention of paying. If anyone doesn't pay they will just be removed but you will have at least a month to get the money together.

The winners will be the top five users who have the highest points at the end of the season and 100% the money that is collected will be shared out amongst the winners (minus any fees).

If anyone wants to sponsor the pool by putting some money into the pot then please get in contact. Again, none of the money will go to me but will be used to boost the winnings. For sponsoring the pool the pool will be renamed to the business or project of your choice and you can have a banner with links in the OP's of both this thread and the Discussion thread.

let the games begin, count me in.
I have some positive memories from 2019/20 season, maybe I can be better this time.  :D

OP, have you contacted anyone as a potential sponsor? Or we waiting for initiative from himself?

Nope. Hhampuz said he will ask roobet a while back but mentioned that they didn't seem too keen before. Think buwaytress offered to sponsor the pool again but I'll have to get an update from him. If someone doesn't make an offer within 24 hours or so I might start a week-long auction or something.

Count me in. As always buy in size doesn't matter much to me, but 25 pounds sounds like a sweet spot to keep it friendly and with max attendance.

Hopefully, we will manage to secure some sponsor for our pool, it makes things that much juicier and will probably bring us at least few more players.

I agree that 25 pounds is optimal signup fee. I think we can get at least 20-25 players in the pool.

France has just beaten Croatia :), I see this as a good omen and therefore I would like to sign up for this new season.
I will try to be less ridiculous this time.

I’m in too  8)

That’s my favourite competition, and the Europa League as well

That might be difficult. Not that long before the tournament and we always get a couple of drop outs. Just keep the CL threads active and hopefully we'll get some bites before the start. If anyone knows others who might be interested then let them know.

I'm in as well, time to kick big_daddy's ass this year!

Buy-in amount is ok for me, just be careful of false signups if you're collecting money late. I'm sure you'll find a way to deal with it though if something like that occurs.
Regarding the sponsorship - an auction seems interesting if no other offers come in a day or so.

I'm curious as to why the PL pool attracts much more interest than the CL one. It was the same last year, CL is the most elite competition. I expected most PL participants to play in this one as well.

Didn't know this was up until today but w00t w00t, give me all the pools I can throw money at! buwaytress in.

Liverpool for their 7th OBE! Seems like we need to lose some games early on to get some steel;)

Happy with any amount, and yeah, I'm saddened this pool doesn't get as much interest as EPL. What, not glamourous enough?

Keep spreading the word. Need to get people signed up and get their picks in on superbru. Worry about paying later on.

Well they'll be removed if they don't pay.

I'll let you know when they update me about it but they said they're working on it.

You can count me in as well, the sign up fee is very fair, that should attract an increased amount of members compared to the league pools.

The champions league starts next week so if anyone wants to play please state so. If you might be interested you can sign up to superbru as its free and put your scores in now and if you decide to join the pool at any point your scores transfer over. I'll give people a month to pay so you can join the pool now and that should be plenty of time to get the money together.

I assume so, but I haven't created our pool yet. As long as your scores are in then it's fine though.

I'll send the link shortly to people but for everyone else you can join superbru now and put your picks in already. buywatress offered to sponsor the pool again at 0.015 so there's a little boost to the pot. If we don't get many sign ups maybe we could just play for that or something.

I'd still prefer to have a buy-in - even if 5 of us are playing. I'm way more focused and interested in a pool if I actually have some of my own money in it - no matter the fact it's not a lot.

Probably just a personal thing, if the majority prefers no buy-ins, I'm ok with that as well. But over a course of the season, 25£ is really not a lot of money.

Huge shout-out to buywatress, cheers mate!

I'm sure most of us are ok with £25. I'll still wait a month or so before I collect money in. I think ten people have signed up so far. I sent an message on superbru to everyone who joined the old pool so maybe we'll get some bites from that as well.

I joined in already and thanks to buywatress, I'd prefer for the pool to have a buy-in fee as well.

yeah, i am also for the buy-in pool, but what a community decide, i will go with it, if the majority is for free pool, we can make it a free one
nevertheless, entered my predictions for the first round, hopefully will be better than in Premier league pool :)

I also prefer paid pool, even if there will be just 10 of us. It's just more interesting and exciting. But offcourse, I would still play if pool will be free.

Why are we even discussing free pool? Have I missed something?  If we are voting I am for paid pool as well.

I was under impression it is paid pool just as it was last season. If we are having free pool I know I would quit very soon since I am playing 3 other paid pools and they deserve more attention :)

Anyway, joined the pool and made my picks for first round of games.

there was an option that the pool will be free, if there is no meaningful number of participants

quote from @hilariousandco - "If we don't get many sign ups maybe we could just play for that or something." - meaning play for the sponsor money by @buywatress

I'm sure most of us are ok with £25. I'll still wait a month or so before I collect money in.

I'm not bringing up the subject again because I'm currently in first position (it's probably not going to last long), but when are we going to pay ?
I haven't given my opinion yet, but of course I'm OK to pay the £25.

I'll probably take money in by next month. I'll keep it to £25 in bitcoin so don't worry about the price as that's what everyone seemed to agree on.

I'll collect it in before the start of the next round. Hopefully the price will steady or at least stop falling soon.
