Title: Too high fees warning
Post by: logomaker on October 18, 2020, 01:23:57 PM
Can anyone explain me this:

When I'm trying to send a payment from desktop Electrum (4.0.2) 0.00015BTC with fee rate 2 sat/byte the fee is 0.00000514BTC

but the same payment with the same settings on Android app (4.0.2) has 0.00001968BTC fee!!! The app warns me that that the fee is too high!

I'm pretty sure that there is no 2FA on my Android Electrum.

Is your Android wallet different than your desktop one? If so then you must have received a few small payments to your Android wallet. Now, all of these UTXOs (https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/utxo) need to be combined which increases the weight of the transaction.

Electrum gives a warning when you're trying to spend a fee that's more than a few % of the transaction (I think it's around 5%).

As pointed out above it could be that there's more inputs to the transaction (even with the same wallet), it's a different wallet, or there's a variation in the fee rate.

Thank you guys for prompt reply! Yes, it is different and there are small payments.
So basically I have no choice but to accept this fee just because of the previous small transactions?

You can lower the fee to 1 sat/byte if the transaction is not urgent, but the fee will still be quite high due to the number of inputs. You can't do anything else about it.

Thank you very much for the explanation! Really helpful! :)
