I still think its advantageous to take a normal paycheck, or better yet paycheck to a corporation, and then invest a portion of it to btc, some to savings, and some to other more stable investments.

How many of you work and are 100% paid in Bitcoin?

Nobody is going to be paid a salary in bitcoin, because it is currently too volatile of a commodity to base a wage.    However there are plenty of people that contract and get paid in bitcoin, or run businesses where the income is derived from bitcoin.

I don't have a job but I am starting up a business and I'm going to show some balls and 100% only work in Bitcoin to see what happens, any time you try to go into Fiat it's amazing just how utterly frustrating it is to set anything up. At least with Bitcoin you know when it's done it's done and for the most part people don't demand to know everything about you, even if I may struggle at first because I've accepted Bitcoin I think it's worth it just for the freedom and privacy it gives you.

Oh and using Bitcoin in general is just a lot nicer and you can custom label your money coming in and you don't have to enter in personal details every fucking time you just want to look at your balance >_<

My salary is 100% Bitcoin   - 7 (17.9%)
My salary is partially paid in Bitcoin   - 6 (15.4%)

I think a lot of people are mistaking earning from bitcoin (trading/mining) and salary wages.
Probably some miners voted for this as the numbers seem quite impossible.

Salary partial paid in bitcoins (by employee election).  Salary is fixed in dollars though.  Tangible Cryptography allows employees to elect in writing to receive 0% to 50% of of gross pay in bitcoins.  On advice of counsel we don't allow elections greater than 50% as it potentially can make taxes and withholding requirements complicated.  A 100% salary (as opposed to contract work) in Bitcoins isn't possible in the US as taxes must be withheld (and employer is liable for massive fines if they fail to do so) and they need to be withheld and paid in dollars.

For you guys here that are paid salaries in bitcoins...would you care to tell us what companies you work for?   Did your companies just go through bitpay...or did you individually agree upon a certain amount of btc to be paid bi-weekly or monthly?

Does that amount of BTC fluctuate with the USD value as it moves, or are you on a fixed BTC salary?

If the question was "who's income is 100% bitcoin" i would answer yes. I currently make more money trading crap coins than I did at my last job. But nobody is paying a salary. I would actually call my profits a capital gain since I re-invested my salary to get into the game.

If bitcoin's value halves, everyone's salary halves, and everyone at your company is disgruntled and looking for a new job.

If bitcoin's value goes too high, everyone gets paid too much, how does the company afford to pay anyone? Do they have a large stash of btc that they sit on and just pay as salaries? It will run out eventually, or the boss will sell it all, thus ending the company.

What you say seems impossible.

Being an independent contractor makes it much easier. Most employers have no clue how to legally pay an employee in something other than a physical paycheck or direct deposit. An independent contractor could have their employer exchange the fiat for BTC through something like Coinbase, then direct deposit to your wallet instead of a bank.

Soon MaidSafe, Counterparty and others will make it practical and profitable to be paid in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

Presently in the U.S., what a business should do is start to reduce wages to their key people, slowly so that government and the IRS doesn't take note. Then they should use a Bitcoin holding company - kinda like offshore - to pay the people the rest of their pay in Bitcoin.

:)

I believe Andreas Antonopoulos stated in his talk at the L.A. Bitcoin meetup recorded on jan 14, 2014 that he is currently being paid 100% in Bitcoin and has been 'for the last several months', at least as of the time of the recording.

I know I have heard him state it and I think it was from that particular video, but I may have it confused with another..

I'm not, Bitcoin is a very attractive proposition to anybody who doesn't have a job that knows anything about it, you don't get taxed the second you start making an income ( Only when you sell for paper currency ) and you don't have to deal with all the usual b.s. involved with paper money until you're ready and earning.

Frankly, I'm more surprised that not all the unemployed have gotten into Bitcoin but it just shows you what a grip central banks have on our countries.

Getting people to pay in BTC is not easy, particularly when you're self employed and not providing mining hardware or system hardware.

I write - and unless a client already has BTC and is willing to pay in them, it's just far too much headache to try and convince them to jump through hoops to work with me when everyone else accepts fiat with no questions asked.

Besides, several of the clients I work with who do have BTC still choose to hold their fiat rather than use it to pay for articles and such.

I don't see how I could make it any easier - but maybe someone here has a suggestion? Scroll down to see the payment options (BTC and PayPal).

Unfortunately hjbuell you're in the position a lot of freelancers and self-employed people are, it's very common, some people are just wankers, this is partly why I'm setting up a store instead, I may take commissions later if I find more people are willing to trust me and pay me. Sometimes it's legitimate paranoia on whether you're a scammer, because in the Bitcoin community people are very careful of that, but if you've done the job for them honestly and are waiting for payment then they're just nothing more than deadbeats.

Really, you're extremely lucky if you get paid at all in fiat and you're doing writing, it isn't just a Bitcoin problem.

Tell me how and where I can buy breakfast, lunch, and dinner with bitcoins and I will stop using fiat.  Tell me where I can pump gas, pay rent and utilities, and buy cigarettes using bitcoins and I will use nothing but bitcoins from now on.  The people who are receiving 100% bitcoins for work payment must be converting much of it into fiat; if not, tell me how you can live entirely off bitcoins.

edit: buying gift cards with bitcoins and using that to purchase items is just an unnecessary hassle; I'd rather just use fiat in that case.

Agreed. I am fairly certain the number of persons who's SALARY is 100% paid in Bitcoins is ~0%  I would love to be proven wrong though so if you receive a Salary 100% paid in Bitcoin please let me know.

Mining income =/= salary
Doing contract work (i.e. 1099 worker) =/= salary
Making a profit day trading =/= salary

A salary is wages paid by an employer (and that employer is subject to payroll taxes and withholding requirements).  In the US if you receive a salary you would also receive a W-2 at the end of the year stating your salary and the taxes withheld.

Of course that means that the poll doesn't have any options for those whose income is entirely from contract work or from the sale of products or services.

As such, those people are left trying to choose from several options that don't exactly match their current circumstances.

If my income was partially (or completely) from bitcoin, and I didn't have a "salary", I'd probably choose one of the two "salary" options, since either one would better match my situation than "jobless" or "100% fiat".

So perhaps the problem is that the poll was ill conceived and is not designed to accurately measure what it's attempting to measure.

Agreed.  Since the title of the thread makes no mention of salary it is very likely the OP just used that word as an incorrect proxy for "income".  It is more believable that ~15% of people claim that 100% of their income is in Bitcoins.

I think being 100% paid in bitcoin is a really bad idea at the moment... we're really not there yet. I love bitcoin and I'm a huge supporter but that would just be way too risky. Bitcoin is still far too volatile to merit investing everything into it. Plus you can't spend them on all the things you need yet, so you'll have to convert a significant amount back to USD (or whatever currency your country uses) anyway. I would consider being partially paid in bitcoin but I would do no more than like 20% to be honest.
