This is what @sandy-is-fine left on him, it cant be more self-explanatory than that. If you can't afford escrow, at least trade with reputable people only, otherwise you are basically asking to be scammed and it will happen sooner or later.

That one is a bit more visible than negative feedback and might save some newbie from making the same mistake like you two did.
