Title: If you think you are smart just know that some are smarter
Post by: Bitbtc8 on October 26, 2020, 12:54:52 PM
If you think you are smart well think again

After UNI Airdrops many starts looking for people's Private keys and recovery seeds using search engines and data engines like 4shared and others but guess what?

Some smart scammers are out there willingly exposing their private keys and recovery seed so that greedy people can scan through them, here is what the scammers have in store

The scammers leave good valuable tokens on the wallet and set the wallet to automatically send out any deposited Ethereum, the greed people will want to deposit eth to quickly move out the tokens to exchanges but its a smart trap, once the eth landed on the wallet address it automatically send out to another Ethereum address...

How did I know this? I know someone who fell for this, luckily he only deposit 20$ worth of Ethereum..

This idea is unique and I have never heard of this before and it shows how the technology works beyond even hackers and scammers knowledge as well so it is definitely scary, however this feels like a deserved act as well.

I mean if you are out there looking to steal from other people, I would say that there is a big chance you deserve to get your money stolen as well, so that is why I think it is not as bad as you might imagine it is, after all we are not really people who steal from others and if we try to steal from others it is only fair that others try to steal from us as well.

But, the idea that "if you think you are smart, there are smarter out there" works in every facet of life, it is not for crypto or scamming only, it could be for everything in life.

Lol power of smart contracts, personally i was not aware that we can automate or create processes inside our wallets too using smart contracts. I have heard some ico wallets do that but i always thought that team moves the raised eth to some other wallet everyday.
I think we all need to learn more about how these contracts work so we can use them to automate our own wallets and make use of these features.

Greediness will truly lead you to disappointment and losing money.

If those people searching for private keys online think rightly, then everyone has thought of it became rich already. But it's not like that, it's fishy to see "free" money online just because they've searched for it.

These scammers are using the weakness of these people, using their greediness for their benefit.

This has been around for a long time even before uniswap I think.  So UNI has nothing to do with this.  It is true that this is a scammer's way of tricking someone who is greedy without thinking long and maybe until now there are still many people who are deceived in the same way.  Be careful

This is an old trick but some people might be asked about it. I think that the scammer has been putting the function to make any ethereum that being deposited into the address will be automatically sent to the destination address that already saved by the scammer as a destination address.

This function can also be used to transfer the erc20 tokens that have come to the address automatically to the destination address too.
It looks like it's a beneficiary function. I'm thinking about the scammer was modifying the beneficiary function and that's worked.

How did I know this? I know someone who fell for this, luckily he only deposit 20$ worth of Ethereum..

Then that someone you know is greedy.

If only people will think not once, not twice but thrice, no deposit should be made.

And to think that person deposit $20, then it shows that he is making a test as he was also expecting something good in return if ever the exchange will be successful. Too much greediness that will spend time searching for an exposed private key.

greed causes self-forgetfulness and loss.

Know that
stupid people won't share private keys because too many people are smarter.
smart people will share private keys because there are still enough stupid people.

I am also worried about it especially newbie who is hungry for information and also wants to quickly get money from crypto. usually will be very gullible, I was like that the first time. but never lose, just spend time playing dice which is actually a scam.

If anyone offers such an offer and asks for an etherum or other altcoin deposit, just decline.
Newbies can easily fell for it, this type of trick will effectively attract any cryptos newcomer, scammers knew their targets once they throw this type of offer out, some people will be tempted to claim those tokens with some few amount of coin for a trial.
Its quite suspicious for somebody to reveal their private key publicly, if not the sake of scamming gullible ones.

Indeed, there are many more smarter people out there who are much more thoughtful and could walk on one's ignorance. To be on the safe side, it's best never to attempt stealing from others and if you really want some thing, don't go through the easy way, rather work hard to earn what you own.

This has been happened long time ago before 2017 when ERC20 was new. Some guy intentionally leaving there private key on bounty spreadsheet. At first glance, it looks a mistake on pasting ETH address because it was a common mistake on filling up bounty form that time. The address contains freeze contract ERC20 tokens with huge value in fiat. Then there's a smart contract setup with it so that tokens sent there will be automatically sent ou to the scammer wallet. Same as the method describe about OP.

This is the first time someone report this kind of scheme but it already happened long time ago.

You should be careful with it and you can try to check the txs that happened in the address whether the received amount has already sent to the same wallet instantly. If that was happening and you should avoid such address. there were so many victims that have sent and they have tried to take the amounts that still available in the wallet but their ethereum was getting sending to the scammer's wallet instantly.

That is really true that every scammer is always one or even two steps ahead of those who think they are smarter that those con artists. The idea of this scammers is very broad and very systematic in terms of getting advantage of those who are too greedy as well that is why you really don't get be fooled by some opportunities that will lead to on getting fraud and scam.

Well, As I noticed after the UNISWAP happened the scammers became rampant in different social media's platform.
They used UNISWAP as front to make their coins become potentials in the eyes of the community, where in the end most of the time
they turned into scam project. In short they took advantage of UNISWAP to scam others.

Lol this is what I called the hunter became the hunted, the aim of the person that finds or look for someone's private key or recovery seed is to steal but not knowing what awaits them, this type of people are not just greedy, they are cheaters and scammers themselves, why would you start looking for someone's key in the first place?

Basically right, that a person should not be arrogant based on his own intellect because there are others who are more intelligent and can do bypassing in another person’s ignorance. To be on the safe side, it is better to be real and focus on your own growth because if you really want something to achieved do not go through the easy way, instead strive using your own ability.

damn thats a smart move there.  i didnt knew that those things are possible , the one that people search for private keys online but who are those people that will store private keys online at the first place ? thinking those things wont make me try to attempt to search for a private key because i knew that i will never find one . if there are ,there could still be passwords unless you are a pro hacker that can crack easy passwords but worst thing can still happen next because you wont know that theres also another hacker waiting for you to get in his trap .

Not you? LOL JK

To be honest, this is the first time I hear about this auto-send method, but even if I somehow knew some private keys with lots of worthy tokens inside, I wouldn't just send ETH without doing any research.

"There is no free lunch" is a phrase that will keep echoing eternally. Try to be more skeptical guys!

That is a classic trap i think. The hacker create some codes to set the smart contract on that address,
so that if there is any ETH coin sent there, it will immediately transfer to other address, which is on the hacker possession.
Just be careful when we find something too good to be true, it could be a trap.

The thing is, they really have to expect many wallet to fall into that trap for them to get a reasonable amount out of this old trick, because eth for transaction fee is not a serious amount, but except that greedy person is stupid enough to send a reasonable amount to a wallet that is not yours, even if you find private key, as long as the wallet was not created by you there is no need to send reasonable amount to such wallet.

Scammers have so many ways to scam us so if you are going to be careless on handling your money, coins or tokens you'll get scam. The big airdrop of UNI wakes up the sleeping scammers, and I'm sure they are waiting for more airdrop so be careful. Better to focus on your own, on how you make money and don't trust anyone with your money, this can lessen the risk of losing money.

Last month was really a good period for Uniswap lover's when they were showered with $1400 worth of UNI (400 UNI) but it gave birth to rise of scammers on different platforms, Facebook cryptocurrency related channels in particular were so spammed, scammers were looking for victims to prey on.
The thing is, most of this scammers are lazy developers, they know how and when victims make moves. They designed their tactics and if you aren't careful, anyone can fall for their scams. They are very smart, knowledgeable people but stupid to use it in bad ways.

Please note: There is nothing free in Internet, the earlier you realise this, the better to adjust your greed otherwise you may end up loosing all you have work for in this space.

Needless to say, they can’t remain to use a similar approach, as people began to recognize the style of their deception. They think of alternative approaches where people won’t suspect anything. As for the victims, they probably did not anticipate the idea of losing their assets in such a way. We should be aware a scam exists in various forms and that scammers are not only smart but also resourceful. Hence, instead of being greedy, why not work in your own ways to earn?

I think OP should also mention where is the hotspot for this kind of scams. As far as I know, this was pretty common back in 2017 and most of the time, they are spreading their private key in telegram server. I don't know about now though since I stopped using telegram and I never see this trick in discord.

I have to admit I've fallen for it once. Good thing I immediately noticed that this wallet was programmed to automatically send excess balance to scammers.

LOL, it's greediness but perhaps he/she thought its might worth it, given a try to outsmart the owner who chose to give out his private key, the hunter became hunted ;D ;D

Some people chose to think illogically on some obvious situations, internet was built for communication with other wider application, don't expect free things on the net.

Thats not new news , I see that kind of wallet long time ago way back 2016 if I remember it righ they filled the probeye keys in Google  form, with MNE balance in it, once you send it will automatically transfered to other address once you send any amount of eth or tokens. That's only greed of person that thinking that they got a free money in the end they will become the victim because they transferred money in that wallet.

Nicely done scammer being scammed I like that idea or wasting the time of scammers I have watch several videos not connected with crypto but it is still funny how the scammers fall victim or waste time on trying to get something and ended up losing money or totally wasted their time.
I tried to do it before and a scammer get tired of me and called me idiot for not falling into their trap and wasted their time on telegram.
A random person message me asking for help and I tried but when I found out that it was a scam I just played along and just continue acting innocent till they got tired of waiting to the amount that I said I had sent to their address.

Recently, people very often began to hope for a "freebie" and therefore believe that they are the ones who will be lucky to get a big jackpot without any difficulties. And at the same time, scammers work very hard and improve their skills so that their income is as large as possible. Therefore, the winner is the one who works and thinks accordingly.

Sometimes the old trick can work for the new target because they don't know how to protect their wallet. So that method can be used to trick them. It is an important lesson for us because we never know what method the hacker or other people will use to trick us, and we need to be careful to save our private keys. If someone wants to steal other people, he will use many ways that he knows or he will learn the other ways from others to get the way to trick us.

It might be very simple but I doubt if any scammer will be patient enough to watch the transaction detail of the address. All that will be up to is moving the coin in the wallet not knowing a trap has been set for him

It's not the first time that I have seen or heard about incidents like this. These days, scammers are always looking for smart ways to scam people of their money. Just a few days again, I received an email about a uniswap airdrop (which I knew was fake). I checked the airdrop form included and it only requested for my email and my ETH address. They didn't ask for sensitive data like mnemonic phrases, private key or otherwise. So I was curious what they could do with it.

it is a very well known fish trap in crypto. I heard many stories like this, sharing the private key in public and deleting it immediately. People think that it was a mistake but it was just a trap for them. fishes connects to the wallet and starts to send ethereum to take the belongings. but ofcourse it is not possible  ;)

I had such a case in 2017, a friend of mine lost money with such an ETH wallet.
He stumbles upon the seed of an ETh address which contains a token worth thousands of dollars, however as soon as he transfers ETH to that address, it is immediately moved elsewhere.
Fortunately, my friend lost only a few dollars

Anyone who is greedy enough  to send eth to a wallet address he stumbled upon just because he/she was able to get hold of the pk will only have themselves to blame, they say nothing good comes easy, anyone who send eth just to get coins that does not belong to them is equally a scammer, there are certain things that should be frown Upon.

OMG! How is this possible? I didn't know of any process like this. I don't know how I will send tokens if deposit Ethereum automatically vanished. I didn't send my private, because I had so many doubts about this process. Now I think we should send our wallet which we won't ever use again ;). Scammers are taking advantage of UNI token hype.

This scam has been around for many years, the people being scammed are often new and greedy. As soon as they see the money in their wallet they only think of taking it without carefully checking it.
As long as you carefully examine that ETH wallet you will find that there are only ETH transfers and it is usually done instantly.

There is called when you feel you are smart, you are actually stupid. because smart people will never think of himself as smart, he will always think there is something lack of mine, to be increased again, to learn more and more. because the more he knows, the few he will feel he knows.

Some smart scammers are out there willingly exposing their private keys and recovery seed so that greedy people can scan through them, here is what the scammers have in store
It is like an old method that is modified and again conformed to the latest hot project that will make every greedy person interested so easily to the trap.

What we can do is actually none, just be careful and do not be greedy. Think that we can't get funds that are not ours exactly.

If, under any pretext, you are offered to open any private information, then you have 100% scam.
Personally, I have no idea what people still fall into such traps. UNI didn’t require anything like that, they didn’t need your private keys and seed phrases. Everything was fair and transparent.

Aside from greed, those who got scammed have no enough knowledge about the market and if they see free money they believed on that without doubting, as if they can really get big profit without doing anything or by just sending ETH and they’ll get triple in return. Those ETH wallet are set up to scam people, I don’t want to get scammed so I wont try to use their private key even if there’s a token available.

Scammers are smarter than those greedy individuals that is why we don't need to wonder why it goes like that and gets scammed.
Nobody knows that was a scam trap at first until someone will complain about it. But if you neglected to read their reviews and feedback it is likely will have some tips in regards to possible scamming activities.

It is just us who can assess it, easily fall into high rewards, you are also helping yourself to get scam. That is difficult when you are investing with a lack of knowledge.

Lol, I have heard about this social engineering a few months ago. No one is able to spend the ETH due to the automated bots and there were more than 20 pending transactions once. Free money is on the mousetrap and newbies still prefer to ignore what they have learned before ICO scams. The solution is to ask ETH developers to delete the contract from the smart chain. ETH developers should stop these hunting games ASAP because the victims are more than yesterday every new day. Twitter scammers have started this method actively and victims are not aware of why they can't send the token from the address which they own private key.

Always keep in mind that scammers are very far in terms of looking on any possible ways to get earnings from you. They are very intelligent because it is their way of getting funds by taking advantage of the others. Keep in mind that you really need to be more wiser and vigilant in order to avoid fraudulent and scamming.

Well, scammers are also taking some risk with their own money to scam you. :D But at the end of the day, they deceived you with some strategy and get what they wanted.Probably everyone claimed their UNI tokens so don't waste your time in finding and buying an ethereum address which maybe eligible for UNI.

Anyone can fall for a scam, regardless of new person or old person, their target is everyone but newbies are more likely to fall into the trap. They don't do decent work because they feel fraud is their fastest way to get rich, or they enjoy seeing others be trapped.

There are no friends in this business, unfortunately. You can trust only yourself. Yes, you can watch hundreds of videos about altcoins and projects, but do not believe anyone. Simply collect all information and know how to compile it correctly to find out the truth.

sometimes friends can plunge us into the wrong coins so we have to do it all by ourselves and as much as possible if no one is beside then we can look for more in-depth information on several information media such as YouTube and others so that we can find out information on how to trade and can participate in a project correctly.

People who are smart enough to think of such a method first deserve to get a reward.

Can we really call them scammers? It's a smart contract trap rather than a scam. A scammer promises you something or tries to steal money from you. In this method you are trying to steal the money but end up losing your own. The hunter becomes the prey. :P

If they told you to send money to their address to get coins stored there they'd be scamming you, but in this case they are not.

Why do you want to deposit in the first place on any sorts of airdrops? I have tiny experience with airdrops before but it didn't require any deposits even a tiny amount.
I just risked my email for that and gladly I used a junk email cause they just sent me a phishing site thinking that I use MEW.

Wise move as there are lots of such kinds of scammers who are trying to hack your wallet thinking that the email you used are same with your link wallet emails.

As there are people who unknowingly deal with this, scammers able to penetrate and emptied their wallets without their knowledge, so being always careful whenever you participate is a must.

Never fall with this offer without putting some time in doing some research to avoid anything
to happen with you, most with your personal information.

Woow, to be honest I am just hearing about this and it also shows how far technology has grown, be it for good or for bad. I believe this will also serve as a lesson and hence reducing the urge to scam people (even that is even possible), this is because, the first scammer do not know if he will be a victim of such, and therefore to be on the safer side and save his little ETH, might decide to be at peace. On the other hand, it also goes to show how far people can go just to steal from others, imagine going about searching data engines and search engines in order to get peoples private keys.
In addition to this, it also proves that, the best way to secure your private keys or mnemonic phrases is not by having a screenshot of it, or by saving it online but by having it on paper, then keeping it in secure places.

Due to the pandemic, more scammers are roaming around. Even in social media sites they are wandering, looking for prospect persons that they can victimize. So we should be aware, alert and smart in order for us not involve in scams and other illegal activities.

In my experience, there's this person who forwarded me a free netflix application in which you can use to watch and stream without any account involving. I tried this app, little did I know that it is a fake app and when you download it, those bad guys will have an access to your social media account and any information that can be found on your phone. My social accounts git hacked and it took days for me before I retrieve those. I even restore the factory settings of my phone in order to erase everything most especially my virtual wallet informations. Hopefully my coins are safe.

Bruh it's an old method nothing new at all.

The address has been set up with smart contract, they will leave some token with a huge value and share the private key so everyone who found it will try to send some ethereum for gas transfer the token. When the fund arrived will immediately send to another address, its really a old method and pretty simple to recognize just by watching the transaction of that address.

It's will really weird when the private key already expose and there has some receive transaction ethereum but the token not moved at all when the eth send to another same adress.

It's not new but it should be heard by the community. Many are still unaware of this scheme.  This the very reason of this forum, to educate the community and to warn them of scammers can do.
People should put in mind that there is no easy money, if its too good to be true it possibly not true. Scammers will do their best to get something from everyone even in the stupidest way.

Scammers have always been and always will be. You need to be very serious about everything related to money. This is especially true for cryptocurrency, because all transactions take place on the network and here, reinsurance will never be superfluous. I think that you need to use all possible means of protection against scammers (hardware wallet or seperate laptop).

Actually this one is a little bit new to me when it comes to scamming attempts. They do make look that its just dumb to sent out some keys in a wallet that has some valuable coins inside.

If you are really not dumb then you would really be having that question in mind on why the hell they would be giving out such key if they would able to sell it out and make their own?

If you dont let your greedy nature overcome you then you would really be having these thoughts once you do receive and check the key for yourself. If greed do overcome you then
for sure those eth's that you sent will really be falling on scammers wallet.

Well, that's how life sometimes work. At first you thought you are winning but the truth is that you are already being outsmarted by a much worse thief or fraud. Scammers are starting to develop new ways on how they can steal other people's money. It would be best if we stay updated upon the new schemes of the scammers so that as we play smart, they wouldn't or they would have a hard time tricking us into their dirty little games. Always protect you crypto and make sure you are storing it in a really tight security wallet.

Unfortunately with the new increasing price of bitcoin and all other altcoins there are a lot of newbies in the crypto world. Which means there are a lot of people who do not know this kind of scamming as well, which is why we have these kinds of scams a lot during these periods as well. I wouldn't fall for such a trick because I have been here for a very long time, there are many other scam methods as well that I do not fall anymore, however I have been here for years, in a few years I will be capable of saying a decade, so I am an old head here, however there are newer and newer people everyday.

I am on the belief that there is at least one more person who was never interested in crypto but involved every single day, probably more than one but at least one everyday, which is why we do make these kinds of warnings since we should warn those newer people to be careful about these.

You have said it all, stealing is an individual thing that need adjustment. With most of the comments above, if we are to test everyone that has made comments on this thread by sending each account a $1000, only few will return the money, so many will deactivate their account. Easier said than done right.
Developers are also smart goons on crypto now a days, you see a good project turn bad when they exit scam and run away with investors funds. Smartness is just different from stealing.

I'm coming across this for the first time. But they must be very smart for them to be able to carry out that kind of job. And one other thing I want to say is that if you are not a thief too, it will be very hard for you to call victim. Because you scam the wallet and you noticed a coin on it that worth something. For you mind, you want to transfer gas to move it out. The two of you are scammers . One is just smarter than the other one. Trying to do that alone makes you to a thief, and anything that happens along the line is your cup of tea alone.

This trick is not new; it has been around for several years. In my opinion, I first heard about it in 2018, but I can't say for sure when.
Everything is based on greed, because in this case you forget about vigilance and rush to snatch the jackpot as soon as possible before others do it. As a result, your 20 turns into a scammer's income.

Its started around 2017-2018 one of the minereum genesis address is one of the earlier where you can see large value of token when you check the address in etherscan . I don't heard any new waller having that again but obviously they can do it in different wallet if they want since they already started that kind of gimmick.

greed will genuinely lead you to disillusionment and losing money.

If those individuals looking for private keys online think appropriately, at that point everybody has considered it became rich as of now. But dislike that, it's off-putting to see "free" money online on the grounds that they've looked for it.

These scammers are utilizing the shortcoming of these individuals, utilizing their eagerness for their advantage.

Schemer = Scammer

No matter what you do call them it is just the same. Deceiving out people just for the sake of stealing their money is really just the same.
Once an old modus or scheme had been busted out then its normal for these scammers to create something new that hadnt been busted
by the masses because they would really be thinking that it would just be a waste of effort on trying to scam out people on using a known or common scamming technique
and here we are now seeing these new way of scamming out people. This should really be shared up to spread up awareness.

In this world, we are full of scammers in all kinds of forms.
It is how you attack or avoid these people. And experience sometimes will teach you to prevent from being screwed.

I've heard about this and it is really smart.

No one is saying who was the victim of it but I know one of my friends fell for this. Some people might say that who's stupid enough to share a private key on the internet but there are a lot of people that accidentally shared or showed it. I know someone who did that and at that time he is just starting to know about ETH addresses. Either way, we should really be careful because not all of the things that we see might be a blessing, it might be a trap.

The people who fall from this method are not really greedy but they are newbie and no knowledge at all about this hacking technique.  I think these scammers are not deserve to call smarter people because they  steal other people money maybe better to call them thieves.
How? You need to explain better because what OP said is 100% true, when newbies created a new wallet the wallet will warn them about keeping their private keys or recovery seed safe and to themselves only and they keep theirs only to go on google search to find others private keys or recovery seed? Listen to yourself mate, this is pure greedy path

They have no knowledge what private keys is? Really? I don't think that someone who never opened a crypto wallet can know what private keys and recovery seeds are, they can only know that private keys and recovery seeds are the only key to any crypto wallet once they start using crypto wallets themselves, this isn't newbie issue it's stealing

My personal experience is because I am too happy and I don't see the address sent to my email, and I also feel like I have the token so I am complacent by sending my private wallet and without a count of days the tokens that the wallet start to disappear..

If you are smarter than the thief, may you can exploit the smart contract and take the tokens inside the wallet.
May i see the example of the trap? Im curious to read the smart contract code  ;D

i didn't know there is this kind of scheme i will really be surprised if the wallet doesn't have any ETH inside while there is a big amount of altcoin. if there is UNI inside it means someone out there claimed it from uniswap. it does have an owner and if you want to sent it to your wallet that means you are also a thief.

this is a funny situation actually, had this happened already i wanna see which wallet this is and see which users in bitcointalk tried to send ETH lol
