Title: Be aware : Mixum [fake copy of Mixtum mixer]
Post by: coupable on October 27, 2020, 05:46:56 PM
I don't know if someone has reported before. The issue was reported (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5283393.0) by this user (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1434859) in my local board ; he said that he came across this mixer :
Code:
https://mixum.io/
See how it looks https://archive.vn/OEZT2

Which is a fake copy of the known mixer  https://[banned mixer]/ {confirmed here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827109.0)} [Archive:https://archive.vn/Yh88r]

This domain of fake copy has been registered few months ago : https://whois.domaintools.com/mixum.io
https://i.ibb.co/2tz3rwY/Screenshot.png
I checked google if anyone has reported it but found no results. Always check the url you are using more than twice .

In this kind of cases I suggest two act to do.
1. Report to the search engine
2. Report to the domain service provider.

This way both the search engine and the domain service provider takes the site down and the next guy do not fall for the scam site.

By the way, maybe this is a topic best goes in the scam accusation board.

Mixtum have their official ANN (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4966853.0) on bitcointalk and I have already posted a reply  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4966853.new#new)there including this topic link. I wish forum use will be aware about this clone site and they will double check the url before using mixtum mixing service.

Thanks for letting us know about this and collecting information about this phishing mixer.

This type of fraud has become comprehensive, but what must be warned about are the unpopular mixers, because of them, you may lose your money, and accounts may be lost, and you will not be able to deal with that, so you avoid falling into fraud and investing illiterate people is difficult.

Will option 2 work though? I haven't tried this one personally but we have seen hundreds of scam websites being hosted by namecheap so I wonder if this will have any kind of affect if you report it directly to them? Because I have seen a lot of scam websites even though if they have been reported as a scam or has been known as a scam for a long time now their websites are still active and has not been shutdown yet.

Creating a scam accusation in the forum only creates awareness for the visitor of the topic and comparing to visiting a site it's not much. The best practice I believe is to report the domain and hosting service provider about it. In the past I have reported few and per my knowledge they were handled.

So, yes it works. With Namecheap, you will need to contact through their customer service. I think you will need to create a ticket for that.

There are many of this I believe because there are tools that could create sophisticated site that could copy any site that even a novice could do. I had already mention this tool in one of my post For your ready reference on phishing (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5275049.msg55173846#msg55173846). The tool that I mention use to create sophisticated sites is sold in black market at lower price so this is why many are curios of having and trying it. The tool was Universal man-in-the-middle phishing kit.

Wow, thanks, coupable! Added to our list (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4966853.msg55158483#msg55158483) of known scams.

On this clone, they have also replaced our Tor mirror link with mixtum5lbuslyow2(dot)online. The 2nd level name matches our onion address, but this is a clearnet domain. The only creative move on their part, because the rest of it is rather crudely made. Still, it could likely fool a newcomer who doesn't know what to pay attention to.

Again, thanks for dscovering it, and stay safe, everyone!
