Title: Best AMD Video Card / GPU For Mining Alt Coins?
Post by: grendel25 on November 04, 2020, 11:46:40 PM
Hi.  Subject line says it all.  I started AMD but shifted Nvidia.  I'm considering building an AMD rig and interested in bottom line summarized opinions on best make/models of AMD GPUs.

For example, my rationale for Nvidia albeit this is a generation or two old by now:

EVGA 1080ti.  Hash density.  High quality manufacturer (EVGA).  Reliable. Very flexible to multiple new algorithms, default support for most new coins.  Among the best for speculative mining.

RX 5700XT seems popular for AMD from what I can see.  Pros/cons about other models?

Is there a certain manufacturer that stands out for AMD like EVGA does for nvidia?

Thank you for your thoughts.

why now wait and see some results of the brand new ones arriving any day now?

I don't like to advise people to wait, but it's the smart thing to do right now
AMD is almost launching the new generation of GPUs, and it's almost certain that will be good to mine
We already have Nvidia RTX 3080, hashing 100Mhs on ETH for 250w but almost impossible to find, 3070 isn't a good option to mine and 3090 are expensive

RX 5600xt and 5700 are both excellent choices, hashing 43Mhs and 54Mhs without any effort, and the efficiency are good enough to be a good choice even with new generation os cards

But wait just a little to make your decision

Sapphire is a good partner of AMD, they make very good boards, Powercolor did a good job with 5700xt too, but Sapphire is one step ahead in my opinion

Power color red dragon 5700xt is a good card.

msi 5600 xt gaming is a good card but you need to grab it on sale.

I got one on newegg yesterday for 266 usd with a 20 rebate. and six months to pay interest free.

so 246 net.

the msi 5600xt is a really big card but very quiet due to bigger set of fans and heat sink.

This nice thing about it was it is easy to buy. I paid for it at newegg on tues and here it is mining in my house on weds.

does this mean you buy five or six no. As many have said the new amd are coming in about three weeks.

I have room for two more rigs  with a total of seven cards.

I am trying to get a nvidia 3080 for 699.

or new amd but just one.

no rush I have 57 cards running as I type.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

This is what I understand:

1) Wait.  AMD is expected to release price/performance to compete with the Nvidia 3080.

2) Sapphire is to AMD as EVGA is to Nvidia.

Thank you!

i prefer gigabyte more reliable than any brand i had, asus is the worst many gpu died around 2-3 year

that depend on the season efficency or best buck/performance, best efficiency still rx5700 from amd, vega still the best buck/performance

old gpu like radeon nano still quite profitable at the moment on chukwa v2 algo

I have 2 Gigabytes and it's good, I bought because there's 3 years warranty in my country, but it's the cards that have the worst heat pipes in my opinion, the memory operates in a very high temperature while I see Powercolors and another brands being better in this case

EVGA is Nvidia only and Sapphire and PowerColor are AMD only

I don't hear good things about Asus GPUs too, a lot of people complain about fans, but now Asus have 3 year warranty in my country too, so I prefer to have good warranty in this case

About radeon nano, only worth if you already have the card

I actually find of the several hundred GPUs i own that the Asus were the most reliable/least issues.  YMMV
All are Nvidia none are AMD.  Apparently AMD Asus are not all that good.

High volume statistics.  I love it.  Reinforces what seems to be the trend.  Sapphire for AMD and EVGA for Nvidia.  Zero issues for me on 30+ evga cards.  I've had probably about 20 AMD cards but only 6 of them were sapphire.  Never issues with the Sapphires.  Some issues with power color and XFX.

AMD:
Asus is bad, the worst performer and hot (also out of 20 or so asuses 2 died on me, while out of over 150 570 Nitros ONE died since 2017)
MSI gaming so so performer, but very cool
PowerColor Red Devils are ok performers and hot
I had 2 red dragons and both died on me!
Sapphire Nitro is awesome, Pulse is good too
