Title: Can Electrum mnemonic be imported into Morden wallets?
Post by: mywaves on November 08, 2020, 01:52:04 AM
As I know Electrum does not have mobile App. Is there any Morden crypto wallet that support importing mnemonic words to recover BTC, BCH, etc. ?

Very few. But you can try Ownbit. As I know it's the only one that support Electrum mnemonics.

Electrum has an android app.

Be careful of fake Electrum wallets, always download it on the official website.

Electrum is the "modern wallet" itself.
in any case if you want to claim these shitcoin airdrops then you must first create a new Electrum wallet (with a new seed) and send all your bitcoins to that new wallet. then use the now-empty seed inside these shitcoin wallets to claim the airdrops. otherwise you risk losing your bitcoins.

additionally you don't need to import the seed itself unless you have a large number of keys with coins. you can easily export the individual private keys and import those in any shitcoin wallet to claim the airdrops. go to your addresses tab in Electrum, right click on addresses with a balance and select private key.

Thanks. But I am looking for an iOS version.

Do not use Mycelium for iOS!!

Mycelium advises abandoning the iOS wallet: bugs in it indirectly led to the theft of $ 3300 in bitcoins (https://newdaycrypto.com/mycelium-advises-abandoning-the-ios-wallet-bugs-in-it-indirectly-led-to-the-theft-of-3300-in-bitcoins/)

It has vulnerabilities that the developers won’t fix. So by using it you risk losing your bitcoins too.

You will have a hard time finding custodial wallets for iOS because Apple did not allow bitcoin apps until 2015, and even after that, nobody made an iOS app that we can trust.

You may take a look at this thread to find a few iOS wallets : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0). Or you may take a look at the Bitcoin community website: https://bitcoin.org/en/wallets/mobile/ios/?platform=ios&step=5 (https://bitcoin.org/en/wallets/mobile/ios/?platform=ios&step=5)

There are no much-trusted wallets for iOS. But since BRD listed on the Bitcoin.org site means you might use it. Funds will be in your control, and no third party is here over control. I haven't used it, so, please do your own diligence and research more.

As I know Anton got trap by sending 12 mnemonic seed to the phishing mycelium email support cause that he lost Bitcoins. But, thanks for NotATether, this is a good suggestion to do not installing a wallet where never update since 4 years ago.

So it's entirely not the fault of mycelium but Anton who is wrong for sending the mnemonic seed to the email, but I'm also worried after seeing this news even I just want to try a wallet with iOS or Android mobile but if there is a problem like this I have to shy away from the mycelium.

List on bitcoin.org even means nothing. BRD is just a very simple Bitcoin wallet. No any advanced features as Electrum. To be frank, i event don't trust bitcoin.org, you know it's not Satoshi who operates it now.

I still recommend Ownbit wallet. (https://ownbit.io) You can use it as a cold wallet.  Everything is offline. Send Bitcoin by scanning, signing and broadcasting. You can control very step. I looked around. Ownbit is the only one that supports Electrum mnemonics. And the same advanced features as Electrum, like: RBF, customize UTXO, locktime, etc.

such a strange statement about bitcoin.org followed by recommendation of a closed source wallet!

any wallet that has not released their source code, can not be reviewed by anyone, is not reviewed by experts and doesn't have deterministic builds is considered shady and must be avoided. ownbit wallet fails on the first step since it is closed source. and worst of all they have pretty much a useless excuse for being closed source too: "we are not opening yet for preventing copy & paste from competitors (https://github.com/bitcoin-dot-org/bitcoin.org/issues/3027#issuecomment-504718486)".

Ownbit invented a way to approve it's safety without opening any source code. Below is the steps:

1. Download Ownbit wallet, and then turn off network.
2. Import a mnemonic (You create the mnemonic somewhere else you trust). Then a cold wallet is created.
3. In another mobile (with the network) you create a Watch Wallet. All communications between Watch wallet and Cold wallet are by scanning QR code. And QR code is in plain text and can be viewed and audited.

Your mnemonic is always safe because the cold wallet is always offline.
