Title: Super-Expensive Bitcoin Cash Wristwatch
Post by: Chris Barth on November 15, 2020, 06:37:42 AM
I just saw the news about the Bitcoin Cash  wristwatch. It's made by a luxury watch maker called Frank Muller. The watch is made of titanium and it's called "Free the Money, Free the World". Each of the wristwatch comes as two piece "Deep Cold Storage" set, with its unique public address etched onto the dial and a sealed USB that contains the private key. You can add your bitcoins to your wallet or check your balance directly using the dial. But then, the only problem I see with this unique wristwatch is that it's super expensive. Remember it was created by a "luxury" watch maker. The price is 9,900 Euro and the 'total supply' is only 500.😅

bitcoin wristwatch. [...] The price is 9,900 Euro and the 'total supply' is only 500.😅

Watchmaker wants new customers.
Sees that a lot of people have made ridiculous amounts of money from crypto.
Decides to try to get some of that money by creating a flashy gimmick that is ultimately irrelevant.
Tries to make the product more appealing by making it limited edition... capping their potential sales at ~5 million Euros.

Just seems like a money-grabbing thing. Appreciate some people like cool gadgets and have a lot of money to spare... but still, seems exploitative, and little different from the flashy ICOs of a couple of years back that led nowhere.

I like that you added luxury in your post about this wrist watch. I hope the wrist has enough security for it's worth because all I see about this wrist watch is its fashion use.
Imagine wearing a very expensive wrist watch and having hug sum of Bitcoin in it and it gets stolen, looks like a big disadvantage though.

More of a win situation for the Wristwatch maker here than Bitcoin Cash itself.

First, it is super expensive, does it mean that Bitcoin Cash just cater for the rich?

I might as well but another watch that is cheaper and then have a hardware wallet. But if you are watch collector and has the money to burn and if you are a crypto enthusiast, so this might be a good investment to add to your collection. But for average Joe, doesn't make sense to spend your hard earn money in a watch.

It looks ugly to me. It is connected to one cryptocurrency does not mean that it should be super simple with limited quantity. It is all for hype, I believe.

Nope... It doesn't look ugly to me. It's unique with its physical appearance and the in built feature it comes with. It's just wayyyy tooooo expensive! I'd rather buy and hold Bitcoin with such amount of money.

IMO, if you have the money to buy it at that price in euro will it is not a problem, especially if you are a Bitcoin cash fan, I believe that was good for you because its an item that has a connection with your passion so its fulfilling to have that one as a collector's item. so 9,900 euros is not that expensive if you have the capacity to buy it.

The watch looks cool, but these wristwatches will serve as masterpieces of future when cryptocurrency adoption makes people use bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies same as that we use traditional fiat and card transactions.

These wristwatches having inbuilt wallet makes these watches close with the cryptocurrency. However these limited edition wristwatches will be bought by the rich ones and doesn't gonna make anything to the cryptocurrency market in terms of promotion.

Looking at the features, it is a clear understanding on why it's kind of expensive, however it is good that people are now looking into that aspect of connecting the material world with crypto, also taking into account that wrist watches are highly used by people, it is also a good way to spread the word, knowledge and advertisment of crypto. However, security is very important in this case, because going about with such wrist watch with your assets in it, might be a good idea to some people while it might also be a bad idea to others, but whichever it is, everyone's opinion is different, hence the need for the security of those wallets to be paramount such that even during theft, a third-party can't access it. Furthermore, I really like this, as it shows crypto to gaining more attention with each day.

I have seen today this press release on newsbitcoin... and I was shocked about the price since it's very expensive and I have serious doubt there is enough interest. I am curious about payment, for sure they will accept also "good" bitcoin ;)

It will definitely be expensive; it is a huge and premium brand. The creator is a prominent watchmaker. Needless to say, its name and usefulness have a great influence on the value of the product. Personally, I won’t spend that much money on a watch. It is good and has great quality, but I can find other products with similar functions at less cost. I find it as a matter of needs and wants, and I choose to be practical. Usually, with such products, you are just paying for its brand name, but it is good to see that they ensure it has great quality.

Let's be realistic here, 9,900 Euros is just too much for a wrist watch. To me, I think the reason the prize is that high is because bitcoin is know as a valuable asset that is worth a fortune. Do you think the watch will actually worth such price if bitcoin never made it to a $100? I guess your answer's no.

It looks so elegant. And the fact that it was made by Swixx luxury watch explains why this cold storage watch worth the price. Also, it is a limited edition so expect that the price is higher than the usual crypto watch we've seen before. It's good how they make innovative watch connected with the innovative and advanced technology we had today.

It only shows that there are big shot companies out there that supports the said coin. It is also very good to see that there is a product related to the coin that has elegance and practical use as well. So what if it is expensive if some collector out there would buy that since it is limited edition, if his investment is good then the value of the coin increases then the value of the watch would also increase if he chose to sell the watch to the highest bidder.
