Title: Using an old version of Bitcoin Core
Post by: privacyn3on on November 18, 2020, 02:38:32 PM
Hi,

I wanted to know if there are any issues in using an older version of Bitcoin core such as version 0.17?

I'm using that at the moment and was wondering if its mandatory to upgrade to the newer version.

Thanks.

Not really, there hasn't been any serious vulnerabilities affecting Bitcoin nor any hard forks recently.

I would still urge you to upgrade though, there really isn't many good reasons for using such an old version especially given the various performance enhancement and bug fix that happened through the 2 years after that version was released.

I will like to know any good reason why you do not want o update to the new version of bitcoin core, I think it has nothing to deal with synchronizing of blockchain which should be the issue, and as you are using the full client, you will have to sync. But, update does not demand much data, then why not updating when the recent update have less bugs to the previous ones. I will say it is not perfect if you do not update if you are actively usimg the bitcoin core.
