Title: Have a wallet.dat in a RAR5 folder....need some help Post by: Candlepower on November 21, 2020, 09:41:29 PM $rar5$16$249fde725d3fcb699d3b16c21a8fd56e$15$4c4d8eedb8c2eafeed907bbbde59f805$8$f278d763dffbef33 is the offending RAR5 hash. I bought a USB years ago at a police auction in a European country, and apparently it has 9 Bitcoins in a wallet in it - but its encrypted in a rar file. I've thrown Rockyou and other assorted wordlists at it, and asked in a couple of places on the internet, but no joy so far.
Not sure how I can really prove this, but I am offering a bounty of 1 bitcoin if I can get into the RAR file and there is indeed a wallet.dat (locked or not, I'm not sure). I've actually been on this forum for years now, but hardly ever posted. If this is allowed, great, if not, then I apologise in advance! Thanks. I suppose shooting them a quick email to ask wouldnt do any harm though...

The RAR file has a really slow hash so if you dont know anything about the hints or person who has created it it will be a long shot. Many online tools offering to extract the hash https://www.onlinehashcrack.com/tools-zip-rar-7z-archive-hash-extractor.php but as you said, you should also upload the file into the website where is most dangerous if they know bitcoin wallet credential inside. I suggest you get more hard work to google itself and try to find john or his brother johnny also. |
