Damn I love those coins...

Is it just me, or do those foam rings seem to cause more toning than without? I've had a number of coins go like that on me stored in those type of airtites. Mostly the white foam ones tho ... :P

I have one of these that has a lot of toning as well, although it is in the exact same capsule with same foam ring.

I will never understand how any of these amazimg coins or any high value coin for that matter can go without grading for even a year after being produced???
If i made epic coins that will continue to gain value forever id have them graded before any sales were offered

I have heard of inserts of like the ones used for the Casascius Bowl Coins that seem to lend themselves to pre-mature toning as we have seen.
But nothing ever about foam rings such as these. Would be interesting to find out if this is a similar condition.
Might be something to add to teeGUMES "Canary" thread for coin/key conditions :D
My recommendation is less is more when encapsulating a coin.. if you are able to source a correctly fitting capsule with no extras, that is best. (Or get it graded :P )

Yeah same here. I’ve got a lot of coins sitting inside air tights with foam rings, but I’ve yet to notice any toning due to the foam rings. The St Pete Cas Bowl slab seems to be a one off. Maybe those slabs allowed for air to seep in causing toning.
