Title: Alt Coin Newbie.. Most Trusted Exchange?
Post by: bitcoinbranches on March 25, 2014, 12:35:13 AM
Hi everyone, looking to buy some alt coins.  I'm interested in VTC,PPC, and LTC.  Is there a trusted exchange other than cryptsy where I could accomplish this.  Also, am looking for something easy and user friendly.  I'd rather take a risk and leave my coins in a trusted exchange than manage them all in separate wallets.  Thanks for the feedback in advance!

What makes you wary of Cryptsy? I've never had any major problem in the months I've been there and it seems to be by far the most trustworthy and transparent altcoin exchange.

I don't think you can trust any exchange unfortunately.   I trust cryptsy the most, but look at how many coins they manage, there is bound to be issues.  Most of the issues with lost coins have to do with the coin itself and not always the exchange.  Cryptsy gave me free CAP when I lost coins on a fork and they have always responded to my support tickets in less then 24hrs.

Well I guess I got nervous when The Bitcoin Wife said she lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of alts on Cryptsy.  How have your experiences with it been?

How did this happen? I've done thousands of trade there and never lost anything. Well I did once, but got it back the next day after contacting the support team. They did have many issues in December because of the huge spike in new users, but they have things under control now.

I haven't seen an exchange with an insurance policy yet, so trade at your own risk. A year ago, some people only trusted MtGOX. I'm sure most of them trust nobody now.

Okay, maybe I'll go with Crypsty.  She said she had two factor auth on but that somehow someone had gotten in and emptied all her coins.

This seems highly unlikely unless she had thrown complete "caution to the wind" in regards to protecting her own password.
