One of the voting participants will receive $ 50 in BTC

The winner post number will be calculated using the formula:
2 + interview (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262967) number of the 1st place
If the winner post number is absent, due to the small number of votes, the award is not paid.
Please vote!
Suggestion: change this, it can be gamed! The only way to win $50 is by voting on a certain candidate, or waiting until the right moment. If I'd want to vote now, I'd have to vote BlackHatCointer for any chance to win.
A random selection based on for instance a certain Bitcoin block solves this.

Your suggestion to use "Bitcoin block" for selection  the winners is seems to be the best approach to find those who get rewards.
That's not what I said. I suggest this only for the $50 voting prize winner.

I thought about it, but I got the idea that if I did so, then I could be accused of mistrust of the forum participants.
If you have an offer and are ready to pick a winner, post it, I will add these terms to the rules and give my $ 50 to the winner.

I could be accused of mistrust of the forum participants.
You shouldn't trust all users ;)

Quote
If you have an offer and are ready to pick a winner, post it, I will add these terms to the rules
How about this: After locking the topic on December 16, you post a numbered list (start with number 0, not 1) of qualifying candidates and a winning Bitcoin block 12 blocks in the future. Don't edit that post anymore.
When that block is mined, and let's take block 659343 (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/block/659343) as an example, you take the hash:
00000000000000000009a4f6f21e40f4c24eb7d0d17be6f35166c894ed93cccf
From this, you take all numbers: 00000000000000000009462140424701763516689493, then for convenience the last 9 digits only: 516689493.
Say the list is:
Code:
0. userA
1. userB
2. userC
....
69. userBQ

To get the winner, you divide 516689493 by 70 (one more than 69) and take the remainder: 33 (https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=516689493%2F70%3D). User #33 on the list wins.

Thanks for the question. Voting option added.
"Other ranks are allowed to vote if they have received 10 merits"

I hope you vote for the best interview.

I think it's great idea. There is quite many great interviews which were very interesting to read, so, why not to award them. Thanks to BestChange for sponsoring it.
Now I can't remember which interviews were best, so I will get through these over 20 pages and will leave my vote.

Considering some users are still submitting their interviews, will a change of vote be allowed in the event of wanting to do so?

Only to read a few more at least ... ;)

I almost forgot. Thanks for sponsoring this, @BestChange!

The rules do not prohibit changing the vote.

So, are there two voting rewards now or the new one is substitute to the old? If there are two then I would suggest you to follow LoyceV's alternative for picking both rewards. '2+interview' number doesn't make any sense especially when there is already a potential winner leading by big margin and people can easily ascertain the winner. If you think replying to my post will derail the thread, quote me in DISCUSSION thread.
These are 2 different awards.
We will certainly discuss this proposal.
__
2 additional rewards of $ 50 each will be drawn using a random method (hashes 1 and 2 of blocks from December 17, 2020 will be used)
Please take part in voting!

I'm taking this quote from the voting topic here:
The "public vote" should go to the interview with most merit. Period.
This would give the users who posted the interview by themselves an advantage. I Merited those a lot more than the interviews posted by zasad@.

@CryptopreneurBrainboss Is it really necessary to award everyone that votes for your interview with merit? I fully understand that you can do with your merit whatever you want, but imho that's not the best use of merit you got as a merit source. Rest assured, there will be people who will vote for you only based on that, as that's what people do when they see chance for an easy merit.

As a matter of fact you are doing the same thing in that Community awards thing, and also ain't cool at all.

I support him giving merits to all people who vote for that interview.

It's really the easiest way to filter all the spineless members, I would not vote for it for 500 merits.

I like to see what democracy brings, it feels like elections. Free buts for some bagels.

What do you think is the right price for voting fraud in bitcointalk forum?

Maybe few merits, secured place in bounty campaign, few bucks or maybe giving positive trust feedback and scratching someone back?

This is abuse and voting fraud, and I wonder can member like this still be on Default Trust and be winner-elect for one of the worst interviews I have read ::)

^ Calm down you two, it is perfectly fine for merit source to give merits to his "fan club" and rig whole elections for few bucks  ::)

May I suggest OP to not count votes from users who received merits for their votes, or, much better solution, just kick "Bob" out of election.

@CryptopreneurBrainboss Is it really necessary to award everyone that votes for your interview with merit?

Thanks for calling my attention, never thought of it that way but I get the point your are making and for transparency I'll resits the urge to do so on both thread. Never knew 1 or 2 merits could cause such harm as I have seen users who have earned a decent amount of merit still give me their votes meaning my merits haven't got anything to do with their decision (on both threads you speak off). I have seen users doing the same as some act of appreciation and just followed without having a second thought.

Be rest assured my actioned had no ill intentions behind it. I won't mind getting punished if the organizers feel that's the best thing to do and also I want to use this opportunity to bring to the awareness of users begging for votes in local board. Yeah I got notification because I was tagged in the replies and fortunately I got my translators always turned on.

I support the best interview to win it all and not popularity, personally I haven't voted because I took it upon myself to to read through the interview again and not get influence by people choices. Thought this could be the reason behind the votes
CryptopreneurBrainboss went from an airdrop participant to a legendary member with 1500 earned merits and a campaign manager. There are sooo many good interviews, unfortunately, I can only pick one.

Nah, I'm perfectly calm about this. It's basic human nature, I saw it too many times already for it to bother me.

If the forum decides by a democratic vote that his interview deserves the prize, I say give it to him. This place is more rotten than we give it credit, so let's just roll with it. This will be just another proof that we really don't deserve a better society than the one we've got.

Fun little experiment, though.

I just checked your Merit history (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1052091) and it shows 55 Merit transactions in "Bitcointalk Community Awards [Voting 2020]" and 21 Merit transactions in "[Vote 2020] Best Bitcointalk Interview". I don't have the time to check all posts now, but if you're only Meriting users who vote for you, that's bad :(

Any idea why nobody voted for you in the first 2.5 days, but you got 21 votes in less than 2 days after that?

I'm quite easy giving Merit, and often Merit posts just because they're "not spam" or "worth reading".
But I can't think of any valid reason why this gets Merited:
Code:
CryptopreneurBrainboss
And this doesn't get Merited:
Code:
gmaxwell

I really enjoyed gmaxwell interview but my vote goes to:
I really like the voting system but my vote goes to
Coincidence?

@CryptopreneurBrainboss, what impact did you expect from the distribution of merits to your voters? True, you got a few votes from some high-ranking members, but what you think was an incentive for those 'Newbie' members who voted exclusively for you. Do you think they've even read the ANN post and voting rules?

I won't mind getting punished if the organizers feel that's the best thing to do and also I want to use this opportunity to bring to the awareness of users begging for votes in local board.

Do you have any evidence for that? By the way, I think machine translators are really bad at catching sarcasm! ;)

I see valid point in all you have said @LoyceV and others too. I believe the idea behind this initiative was to give the best interview a recognition and nothing more, that their favorite chances of winning is been challenged doesn't mean they should drag my reputation under the mud. I have spent years building the trust & respect I have now and I wouldn't trade that or allow it to be taken away from me merely because of few bucks. I earned everything I currently have and I'm very proud of it, I got no local board to support me and have to work twices than most of them.

I hate the fact that my name is getting dragged all round the forum especially in local board therefore I would love to withdraw from been eligible in this contest. My actions were just an appreciation and nothing more, if my actions brought about dishonesty to the contest I'm sorry and It'll be best I withdraw to avoid further complications. Understandable few users took advantage of this act of mine and for those that genuinely voted for me, thank you.

Please grant my request @zasad@ thank you.

The problem with your interview is that it's really, really, REALLY bad. There are so many good ones and if yours was even decent, I'm sure it would not cause such a stir.

You have to be aware of that yourself, right? Just read a few of the good ones, then read yours and then try to justify giving it a vote. You don't have 5 votes, you have like 20+, maybe even more. So, naturally, we all know something's gone terribly wrong there.

That said, I'd hate to see you withdraw from the contest because in reality, these votes are not your fault at all. It's the fault of people who vote for you just so you will maybe remember them in the future when you are picking campaign members or for the merit you were giving. You did nothing wrong so do not take the blame for it.

I didn't have the time for it, but I've seen as possibly some sort of "friendly bribery". You are not new in here and you know that there's quite a hunger for merits, since they can bring better paid places in most signature campaigns.
It doesn't matter at all if you knew or not that meriting will attract more votes. It may not even matter if you withdraw from the contest or not (honorable move, but possibly useless since there's plenty of time until 17th for many more votes around).
What matter the most is to see the point and .. well, merit posts only for their usefulness ;)

I consulted with the sponsor and here is our opinion:
As far as we understand, CryptopreneurBrainboss did not violate any special forum rules. The rules of this competition do not prohibit awarding voting participants.
We try to remain neutral as much as possible, so we cannot accommodate such requests.
We remind you that the rules of the competition do not prohibit changing your vote.

There are so many interesting participants in the interview and some of those are really amazing talks. It's gonna be a tough competition and we can see some issue on voting. There are 213 choices I'm sure not all read everybody's interview and focus on the person that somehow interest them. If the contest was shortlisted by a committee let say up to 5 to 10 candidates that will be chosen to proceed with the voting.

At least if there is a short list people can have time to review which one is really struck them most or amazed. Anyway just a thought but I appreciate this wonderful competition. Thumbs up to you @zasad and to @Best_Change for sponsoring this event.

Still thinking regarding my vote there are so many interesting interviews. Very confuse whom to write. Anyway will vote when the date is close to the final date.

Usefulness to whom? I bet that Brainboss finds those posts useful. Well, at least for him. :)

Joke aside, if merits have been implemented to improve the overall quality of this forum, then I just don't see any reasoning for using merits in this way. Especially not by merit sources, since their responsibility for distributing merits is even greater.

@CryptopreneurBrainboss Is it really necessary to award everyone that votes for your interview with merit?
I read the rest of this thread and realize the issue, but I'm not entirely convinced that he was trying to induce other members to vote for him by meriting those who had previously voted for him.  IMO he was probably thanking those people for their votes--but I agree, he shouldn't have done that for two reasons:

1) Even hinting that a vote for him would lead to the voter getting a merit is reputation-damaging for the reason that's now obvious, i.e., he's starting to look suspicious.

And 2) As mentioned, merits should be given for good posts, not necessarily as a thank you (although I do think that people are free to do with their sMerits what they will, as long as it isn't selling them or abusing the system.

I totally lost track of this thread and the interviews somehow.

The problem with your interview is that it's really, really, REALLY bad. There are so many good ones and if yours was even decent, I'm sure it would not cause such a stir.
Are you referring to CryptopreneurBrainboss?  I'll have to go back and read what he wrote.

Title: Re: (Discussion) Best Bitcointalk Interview

The vote was split into two completely different positions.
1. This is a high-quality interview that gmaxwell did. Without question, this is an absolutely quality interview.
2. This is a simple and casual yet candid interview with CryptopreneurBrainboss. This is an interview with the most ordinary ex-bounty hunter, who eventually realized that he was wasting his time, and after that, he gained a reputation, which commands respect.

Comparing the two interviews is like comparing soft to cold.

And then, of course, people's opinions are divided on their sympathy for CryptopreneurBrainboss. If you look closely at those accounts that voted for CryptopreneurBrainboss, they are like-minded people, if you can call it that. Almost all of them are from the same country, and most likely this is just support.
CryptopreneurBrainboss is certainly not to blame here. I doubt it was collusion. If you look at the merit sent, most have a lot of merits received from CryptopreneurBrainboss. This is nothing more than gratitude.

Probably in the conditions it was necessary to clearly define what needs to be assessed by quality, and not by sympathy.

Yup. That interview is not even decent, let alone worthy of challenging gmaxwell's. That's where all the fuss came from.

That said, we are a diplomatic society so if people decide that one's the best, I fully support it. I don't have anything against CryptopreneurBrainboss, I do have everything against every single person who gave him his vote though. Not because I don't respect opinions, it's because of what's behind voting for it.

Ok now I feel offended as my interview was written with all sincerity and zeal. I didn't bother to add some extra words to spies things up and make it interesting to read. i wrote all I have gone through over my years on the forum and community at large therefore you continuously tagging it not decent kind of offset me. I get it that your fav chances of winning was challenge (as I understand from discussions ongoing in your local board (https://archive.is/wip/jCIX7)) but that doesn't mean you should disrespect me. Also If I may ask, was there any standard set for the interview, I guess not.

My interview might haven't had interest you but I believe it did to others and probably given some individuals hope. You speak of decency, so you mean I shouldn't have written the truths but made up stories like some hollywood scripted films so it'll interest you and satisfy your urges, Please. If you're only voting a particular users interview because it was decent then that's on you and just like others voting because they want to be on the winning team or because a high ranked user has voted that particular individual then so be it. 99% of the time, the best never wins but the most popular and favorite users always does. Nothing serious here, lets not fight ourselves, it's just a vote.

Well, I really don't care whether you are offended or not. It's a forum, deal with it or don't read it. I'm not disrespecting you, I'm just calling your interview inadequate for a top reward.
I don't have a favorite, I do not care about this at all, I said 5 times already that I have nothing against you and that I feel you should win if the votes say so.

Just please, don't pretend it's a good interview. It is not. People are voting for you because they hope they will eventually earn 3$ off of you.

Now, I already said the same thing too many times so I won't be replying here anymore. I'll just read your next interview in the New York Times.

Since there's more than one person who can win anything, I would have preferred to have some sort of ranked or even cardinal voting. There are more interesting interviews than just one, but looking at this thread so far, there's going to be a pretty big gap in terms of votes between individual places. There might even be multiple users taking the 3rd place.

I'd like to support this idea, too. There are a number of interviews that are good, each in its own way. It is unfair to ask members to vote for only one candidate.
In my opinion, a better solution would be for the jury to select a dozen representative interviews and then the community selects the best among them.

Sounds good and I would have supported the idea at the start of the contest.
But changing the rules in the middle of the contest may not be OK for all the participants or for the sponsor, so a discussion with them (sponsor and the current top5?) may be needed before the idea gets more traction.
Else it could get confusing.

Yes, at this point it's probably too late, I wish I had found about this thread earlier, maybe it would have been received differently. On the other hand more than half the time allotted to place a vote has already passed and the number of votes hasn't even reached half the number of published interviews, so that could be a good argument with restarting or extending the vote. Eh, either way, it's still a cool initiative.

To think of it, maybe the voting topic would be seeing more views if it was in Meta? Although with the monetary rewards it's where it should be.

That is actually a good measure to choose which interview to vote for. Mine (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262967.msg54819672#msg54819672) wouldn't be interesting for the 99.9999% of the population that doesn't use Bitcointalk, but gmaxwell's (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262967.msg55722022#msg55722022) would be interesting for almost anyone who's ever heard the word Bitcoin.

Captain Hindsight: you should have asked voters to estimate how many interviews they've read. I get the feeling many people only read one.
I think I've read about 80%.

I think that all posts made by users with Newbie and Jr. Member ranks (with less than 10 earned merits) should be reported, as they don't respect the posting rule stated in OP. Furthermore, many have no idea about their nominations and their posts are spam. Besides, nominated users should also refrain from meriting the posts where their names are mentioned as this practice encourages dishonest votes. As many can see that some received merits from the ones they nominated, this will only encourage others to vote, hoping to receive merits as well. Also, this can be considered as a dishonest move from those awarding merits for users which voted them, as something like this influences the contest.

Thank you zasad for the possibility to get interviewed.
As I told you earlier I have a lot of fun writing it, and I am happy that so many readers took their time to appreciate it.
The 100$ is just the icing on the cake! (well, the amount in BTC got smashed between the endo of the contest and today!).
I think I will invest those in (yet another) BTC full node!

Dear winners, write your bitcoin addresses in this thread to send you winnings!

Thank you zasad@ and Best_Change for coming up with this awesome idea. The truth of the matter is without this initiative many of the awesome interview I have read in the past week won't have been read due to the fact that I'm no longer a frequent visitor to the reputation board and the interview thread. You reminded us that some interesting stories have been told by the forum members that needs to be read and It wasn't a disappointing experience.

Big congratulations to all the winners and most especially gmaxwell, well-deserved first position. You created some magic there and it was all from your experience. Thank you Best_Change for always coming through for the forum and support her members initiative and hopefully you'll triumph against all the lawsuit against your company. Thank you once again.

Congratulations to gmaxwell and fillippone as well as to 2 lucky participants.
Is there any reason CryptopreneurBrainboss didn't get mentioned? He got 2nd place.

Possibly because of the somewhat controversial victory of CryptopreneurBrainboss. It was an unethical tactic to reward voters with merits.
I don't know if you've read the whole topic, but you can check out LoyceV's analysis here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5294958.msg55749749#msg55749749).

I thought you back down on the votes.

therefore I would love to withdraw from been eligible in this contest.

I already left a note after he done that, and it seems he ignored it.
Appreciation can be done tru messages, or might acceptable  if he only done that with 2 -3 persons with 1 Merit each... but LoL almost who voted for him got the Merits.

At first I have no problems on CryptopreneurBrainboss in his way of giving Merits but this lately I think his Source should be taken away from him.

(P.S. I have no personal grudge against him, it's just the way he acts right now compared before - it's  way too different)

Captain Hindsight: you should have asked voters to estimate how many interviews they've read. I get the feeling many people only read one.
I think I've read about 80%.
ive read maybe 50%. unfortunate as its not fair to those i havent read but when the wave of newbies came in i lost interest. i didnt even know gmaxwell posted one until i saw the votes for him.

I've read about a quarter of interviews in full, and skimmed through another quarter. With a low barrier of entry it becomes a bit tiresome to go through all entries once the numbers swell past a certain point (remember the art contest for the forum's anniversary?).

Anyway, congrats to all winners and thanks for organizing this.

I join in congratulating the winners! Your interviews are truly some of the best. Well, those who did not win but really wanted to win I wish not to lose heart as on the forum constantly arranged contests in which you can try not only their strength but also luck.

Thanks to zasad@ and Bestchange for a great contest.
