Title: Know what you are buying
Post by: Ryushin on December 03, 2020, 04:34:52 PM
A friend went behind my back to buy some GPUs on Aliexpress and they are all fake brands, he knew I'm into mining for many years now and I don't still know what he won't ask for advice before doing this, Im here to tell the difference between real and fake graphics card

Fake graphics cards are always too cheap to begin with and the real graphic cards are more costly

Here are some original gpu brands

1. Asrock
2. Gigabyte
3. Sapphire
4. Zotac
5. MSI
6. Asus

The gpus my friend bought has no brand at all, they only have the names like RX480 and stuff, they are complete unbranded GPU

AliExpress is full of substandard fake and copycat items. This is probably because it's just a marketplace hosting different sellers, and they don't have strict policies when it comes to fakes. The most important thing to do to avoid buying fake is for one to directly by from the official site of the GPU brand or official distributors.

Here are some original gpu brands
<snip>

In fact, none of these brands are actually producing GPUs! As far as I know, the only two manufacturers of GPUs that can be found in mainstream graphics cards are AMD and nVidia.
Maybe you were talking about graphics card manufacturers?

In that case, that's by no means a complete list. There are also other manufacturers who are known and produce high quality graphics cards.

For example: EVGA, PNY, XFX, Galax, Palit, Gainward...

Unbranded graphics cards are the most scary ones, they performs very worse and have bad capacitors, they aren't built for any intense use, I only trust two cheaper brands from china and that's Icolorful and yeston, but buying cards with no brands at all is a total waste of money, people need to be careful on aliexpress or other chinese online stores, they always have fake products

Aliexpress isn't like amazon where they reject any fake items, Aliexpress is opened to all different types of sellers, if you don't know what you are buying you will end up with fake items, there is no doubt that aliexpress have some cool items with good grade but also it's full with bad products, to buy the right graphics card make sure you search using the brand name of the card you wish to buy, for example ASUS cards, there are some brands that aren't high quality too like veineda and yeston, I have seen too many complains from buyers, the best chinese brands are colorful and Maxsun, they works just like ASUS and Gigabyte graphics card

This is one of the major problems of buying online. Especially on just random sellers online, without good reputation or feedbacks from buyers.
I'm sorry for the lost of your friends, for sure those amount of money is somehow not small since most of the graphics card for mining may expensive. We can't also totally blame Ali Express about this, since they can't totally control the sellers on their platform.

How much your friend paid for that fake GPU? there's another modus for these GPU sales.

If you're into a p2p local market, avoid paying first and have it with COD. But with such platforms like Aliexpress, they don't mind what's on their platform being sold by their sellers.

Did your friend report it?

Nvidia is also another common original brand.

What can we expect in much cheaper price brand new items?Maybe i will consider it Good items but cheaper if it is Second hand or slightly used.

Alliexpress did not cheat your friend or anyone since they did not pretend to be selling High quality items,Instead they are selling what their product is and it is our obligation to ASk for what we are buying for.
and in this part your friend Knows nothing about GPU yet He buys without asking for professional opinion .

We have to be very careful about buying and cutting branded items are never counterfeit they usually use fake items to promote the brand name bought a lot of things from alli express so far and haven't been cheated. But if you are afraid of online shopping then there are many ways to buy and sell products from alli express in addition to the rules we use to buy products there are some strategies for buying products. If you use these strategies buying your product will be easier and safer carefully inspect the seals before buying or cutting the product.

We are working hard for every single cent we spending so make sure that it is worth it.

Don't look just for Cheaper product but also the capacity and life span ,sometimes it is ok to pay higher but will be your longer, than purchasing the lower one but will be a trash in the following days.

Specially in Gadget accessories because the competition is very tight so other companies offering the lower value but imitated items.

It would be helpful to have some good advisory YouTube videos about modern gpu mining. It is difficult for the inexperienced ( like me ) to evaluate advice.

prices too attractive? Chinese site? it is very likely that the products / graphic cards are fake, or sub-brands with a similar name, however the best configuration in my opinion ryzen 7 (processor) and rx580 (graphics card) to buy new and if possible in a physical store

You have to fight for your case to be eligible for a refund. As long as you have sufficient evidence that you received an incorrect/ counterfeit product.

Not too long ago, I ordered some L-sized clothes from a Chinese seller. Arrived in M-size so naturally I had to raise a dispute with evidence of the order confirmation and the final product.

A few days later, I got refunded in full since it's totally not worth sending the stuff back.

I think that it is very important to do a detailed search before buying something. When you don't do that and choose an item just considering its e.g. price, it becomes open to surprises. The chance of being fake or of poor-quality increases at an important rate. Even if you don't have much knowledge about what you want to buy, you can ask a person who can help and choose the right thing easily.
