Title: Mycelium in-app sports betting
Post by: LoyceV on December 03, 2020, 05:35:07 PM
I've been using Mycelium on Android for years now, and they're slowly adding more "External Services". I get it, they need to earn money too. At least they allow to disable them via Settings, so it's only a minor inconvenience.

But it's getting worse: they already added a "BUSINESSES" tab between "TRANSACTIONS" and "ADDRESS BOOK" a while ago, and now they've added a "SPORTS BETTING" tab between "ACCOUNTS" and "BALANCE".
I can't be the only one who doesn't like this :( I don't need to see pictures of dudes in my wallet :(
If they keep this up, I think I'll switch to another mobile wallet.

There is also another thread about Mycelium market. I don't like their new additions. For quite some time now.
Until now I didn't find (didn't look too hard either) a better mobile wallet with HW support, but I'm with you: soon we'll have to look for real for a replacement.
Quite shame...

I saw it (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5295619.0), but it's about cocaine.

Electrum is probably the most likely replacement, but I haven't tested it yet on mobile.

LOL.

Ledger Live is doing much the same thing, i.e., adding services like being able to buy bitcoin through one of their partners (which I can't do, because I live in a restricted state).  Coinomi partnered with ShapeShift and Coinswitch and a few other crypto-related businesses, and there's some option to buy gift cards now.

I guess this is the way wallets are headed.  Hell, look at Tron's main wallet.  It's got all sorts of announcements and extraneous crap in it.  Mycelium is a mediocre wallet anyway IMO for the sole reason that you can't set the fees to exactly what you want.  Don't know if they changed that in the past couple of years, but it used to drive me crazy.

You can choose the fee from preset values, with about 10% in between. I'm okay with that.

I remember once exporting the keys to be able to use the fee I wanted.

I just said in the context of "annoying additions to Mycelium"

Unfortunately afaik Electrum for Android still doesn't support hardware wallets. Else I would probably use it already, it would be the obvious choice.
Electrum for PC (windows, linux) is the wallet I'm using since Multibit died. (Core I've used almost exclusively for tests.)

I don't use Mycelium but it looks like they are going the ledger route with adding all this external services.
Other than Electrum you can check out and try open source wallet bluewallet.io, it is getting more popular and they are also supporting LN, with Payjoin coming soon.

Totally agree! It's getting more and more annoying to use the mycelium wallet  >:(

It's gone again, and that makes it look even worse: there was no update in between, which means they can add or remove advertising tabs as they please.

I know it's been a while but after looking at this post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5350964), but it looks like they put back crypto betting tab in between Transactions and Businesses tabs. What's even worse is the casino placed there is a known scam
