Title: Re: Bitcoin transaction stuck for days, Child pay for Parent method will work?

Hi friends,
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/6d39ddf0ec4ce578bd70300c317865aa40d471e9feed3b794655f51ad5b33e9a
My btc transaction is stuck from 5 days because of low fees, it also has unconfirmed parent TX. I really want it to be confirmed.

If I send $1 with really high mining fees such as $50 to the receiving address, will it do the trick?
You could contact Mr.Spider703 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5034315.0). He does the service for fee and free of cost. What you've added as fee is very low considering the input value. You should've chosen at least $5 worth bitcoin as fee. What you've added is just a dollar.

If the new transaction you want to make has UTXO of the previous transactions (the two transactions), it will work. With the increased fee in the third transaction will make miner to pick the transactions fast and include them all in the next block, the three transaction will be confirmed at the same time.

If you have control over 3DNZTfv3zyrBXju919t1CWF5nz81Fxb4Ak, yes. You can use CPFP method.
Just note that the transaction in question has an unconfirmed parent too. So, the fee you need to pay for the new transaction must be that high to cover the fee of that unconfirmed transaction too.

If you are not in hurry, you only need to wait. Your transaction will probably be confirmed in the next 48 hours. Even transactions made with 1 sat/vbyte are usually confirmed on the weekends.

If you are in hurry:

In the first unconfirmed transaction (https://blockstream.info/tx/794b3223490d46ad9f2e5ddb66e9964748c23241bac2d933dc2c78ee024b05fe), the size is 15,603 vbyte and the fee is 3.4 sat/vbyte.
In the second unconfirmed transaction (https://blockstream.info/tx/6d39ddf0ec4ce578bd70300c317865aa40d471e9feed3b794655f51ad5b33e9a), the size is 111 vbyte and the fee is 51.3 sat/vbyte.
Assuming the new transaction will have one input and two outputs, its size will be about 160 vbyte.

The total size of these three transactions will be 15,874 vbyte.
For getting a fast confirmation, you need to pay about 10 sat/vbyte. (Note that this rate is dynamic and can change over time)
This means that the fee must be paid for these three transactions should be about 160,000 sat.
58,750 sat has already been paid and you need to pay about 101,000 sat (about 19 dollar) for the new transaction.
So, even if you are in hurry and want your transaction to be confirmed in the next block, there is no need to pay 50 dollar for the new transaction. About 20 dollar should be enough.

Your transaction has confirmed, so you don't need to do anything any more.

However, for future reference there are four ways to speed up confirmation of a transaction:

  • 1. Pay a miner directly to mine your transaction. Note that "transaction acceleration services" are generally scams (the exceptions are the major miners).
  • 2. If your wallet supports RBF (replace-by-fee), you can resubmit the transaction with a higher fee.
  • 3. CPFP (child-pays-for-parent) using the change address. If the transaction has a change address, you can send funds with a very high fee from the change address. In order for a miner to get the high fee from the new transaction, they must also mine the stuck transaction.
  • 4. CPFP (child-pays-for-parent) using the receiving address. If the receiver of the funds in the stuck transaction sends those funds with a very high fee, a miner will be motivated to mine the stuck transaction. See #3.

Saw your post just now and found that the payment has got confirmed. The primary reason for Bitcoin transactions to remain unconfirmed is always the fee. So always choose the right fee which is recommended by your wallet and you will never face such an issue. I found an interesting article a few days back where there is a lot of valuable information relate to Bitcoin unconfirmed transactions (http://"https://cointikka.com/bitcoin-unconfirmed-transactions/") you can read it.

You are in too much hurry with your transaction (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/6d39ddf0ec4ce578bd70300c317865aa40d471e9feed3b794655f51ad5b33e9a) that was broadcasted with 29 satoshi per byte. The fee is high enough to get confirmation and 5 hours ago yours was confirmed. Now it has 41 confirmations.

Child pay for parents can help you and you can use it if you move your bitcoin in the early of every week. Your transaction was made on Friday and in weekends fee will be lower so you can wait for 1 to 2 days and save a little transaction fee.

The mempool with https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,2h shows today you can move your bitcoin with 4 satoshi per byte and get it confirmed in next 1 block. It is 6 times cheaper than the fee you used.
