Title: **family survives 40 countries living only on Bitcoins**
Post by: fiulpro on December 06, 2020, 02:14:25 PM
So this popped up in the news today :
 https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/12/05/bitcoin-price-buying-bitcoin-how-this-family-buys-sells-everything-in-cryptocurrency.html (https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/12/05/bitcoin-price-buying-bitcoin-how-this-family-buys-sells-everything-in-cryptocurrency.html)

This is a story of a family which survived 40 countries depending just on Bitcoins. They did that for 4 years and invested in Bitcoins in 2017 when the price was 900$. The family apparently does not pay in anything other than bitcoins , so they are travelling the world and asking the people and the government if the transaction can be made in Bitcoins. How cool is that ??

Quote
But they say there are two places on the planet where you can pay for literally everything using bitcoin: the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana and a small Italian village called Rovereto

!!!!!

Quote
In Ljubljana, they paid for things like car repairs and cinema tickets in the cryptocurrency, and in Rovereto, it is possible to buy a motorbike, pay your taxes, or get a haircut using bitcoin

He didn't even cut his hair until and unless he did find a person who did accept Bitcoins.

Quote
"I always said to people, 'I'm never going to cut my hair till I find a hairdresser that accepts bitcoin,'" said Taihuttu. "And then I walked into this hairdresser, and he was accepting bitcoin. I was like, 'Oh, no, I need to cut my hair!'"

For Didi, the fact that both a very small traditional village and the capital of a country had whole-heartedly embraced bitcoin was a sign to him that it was possible anywhere.

"In my opinion, any country, any city in the world, can have the same adoption of bitcoin as a store of value, or payment, or peer-to-peer cash," explained Taihuttu. "This is what keeps driving us to explore the world."

Okay I believe it's very cool ! What are your thoughts on this ? This family is not only exploring their way around the world but they are also educating people about Bitcoins.

I hope they will earn more profit, people who investing and trusting to the bitcoin earned money and hoping soon we can see a lot of business that accepting bitcoin so where ever country we visit we can use it.

Big adaption to the bitcoin will happen for sure but it will takes time to happen this. That family is starting using bitcoin and I think it's time for the change and hoping we use bitcoin everywhere.

I think this is like killing two brids with one stone, educating people and using bitcoin at the same time, even with the non-acceptance of bitcoin in his country he still continue to live with that, that a motivation for all bitcoiners and future investors ...

It's great to hear that they managed to travel with bitcoin, but the story is just too dramatic for the average guy like me who wasn't born a millennial.

He didn't even cut his hair until and unless he did find a person who did accept Bitcoins.

He didn't cut his hair because there was nobody to do it for Bitcoin? Ever heard of a hair clipper? It costs like $20 and can run on batteries.

Is that really possible? I mean 40 countries, meaning they cross the borders and using Bitcoin for their financial needs thats awesome. by the way, where it exactly happen in Europe maybe, I believe the people and governments of Europe are more advanced and open to new possibilities compared to the rest of the world.

Basically it is already possible. There is an increasing number of shops that accept Bitcoin. And there are more and more. Bitcoin will continue to gain acceptance in the coming years. By 2030 at the latest, I hope that everything can also be paid for with Bitcoin. Until then there is still a lot of catching up to do.

What a man, standing strong with his wife by selling everything and betting everything on BTC. He's the man. Lol

Anyway, I wouldn't expect that a small Italian village would be such a crypto-friendly place. It's like I want to be there and live there. Definitely, a great family, and they look so happy with their pictures. Imagine visiting 40 countries; that's the life.

I'm curious as to how they are earning their BTC as well. There's no information about it in the article, though. I want to learn more about it, and maybe he is here? I would like to talk to him.  :D

Surprising! 40 countries? How is that possible? It wasn't an easy task by the way. I am assuming he is around only crypto-friendly countries. I can't imagine how he has been managing everything with crypto only. If it's really true, then it's one kind of bitcoin adaptation. He is finding goods for bitcoins and o the other hand he has been spreading words about Bitcoin as well. I think many new people will meet with the bitcoin in this way.

Travelling in 40 countries just using bitcoin, WOW! :o That's the life that I want to experience too. Everything is all  about bitcoin, I can't imagine. I really want to learn from them.

Many people will be inspired by their story. And one day we will not be surprised if many people also travel, eat at various restaurants and shoppers using only cryptocurrency or bitcoin.

The amount of profit that Bitcoin is giving to people now is expected to give more profit in the future and soon Bitcoin will give people a huge profit. Bitcoin is now very popular with almost all countries in the world.  Bitcoin-dependent Bitcoin is now so advanced that in some countries people are secretly using Bitcoin despite the fact that Bitcoin is banned. I hope that in countries where Bitcoin is banned they will declare Bitcoin legal because Bitcoin is not an illegal bitcoin.  The way it is going now, I hope it will go much further in the future

This story is indeed amazing because they were able to travel to different places only using bitcoin for their day to day transactions.
But I'm more personally amazed how they were able to travel to 40 countries for 4 years since 40 is quite a lot. I bet they struggle finding shops that accept bitcoin back then, but since bitcoin is now gaining more attention, it means that they can find more businesses accepting it. The whole story is fascinating and it's nice to know that they are also promoting bitcoin around the world by doing what they do for the past 4 years.

Of course that's the main concept for not to spend unless in Bitcoin but there are exemption and those are foods ,drinks and other special needs that will surely not accepting bitcoin but they need to accumulate .They had all what they need in the world so cash out at some point is surely plus factor to go around 40 countries and maybe counting.

What i love on this is that they are often in telling or asking people about their knowledge about Bitcoin in which may affect each places they go through .and maybe those establishment will come to mind about accepting Bitcoin for special occasions or costumers.

I have no more words to watch a family like this. really really gives us new spirit. they are digital people who are really giving us a new direction to continue to introduce bitcoin wherever and to anyone.

The story you are telling is simple but has enormous value.

Oh it's the Bitcoin family and the legend Didi Taihuttu. Famous since 2017, everybody knows this guy that sold most of his belongings, bought Bitcoin and kept moving between countries.
Some criticize this decision but if you read first what he has to say it makes good sense.

As what I have understand about their story, they are so creative. They are "forcing" merchants to accept Bitcoin by any means necessary, and they've accomplished it while traveling to 40 countries. This is what we call "true advocacy" and "massive adoption" by forcing them to embrace cryptocurrencies in open arms. If I were in their shoes (as a solo traveler), I would try that too (maybe when pandemic is gonna be over).

I have read about the family back in 2017 and they are still on the road. Every once in a while I see them on my youtube feed too. It's a very adventurous life for the family to go places together along with the kids. Its fun because they do have an RV to live in while moving from one place to another. The kid's school is very much possible now since everything is online, this covid just made it perfect.

Through a combination of bartering, bargaining, bitcoin debit cards, and convincing vendors to accept the cryptocurrency, the family has managed to traverse much of Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

Just as I suspected when I saw the title, they used debit cards, which of course makes it significantly more easy to spend "bitcoin", since merchants won't even have to deal with Bitcoin, it will be automatically converted to whatever currency the merchant accepts. But this is against the core principle of Bitcoin of having no middlemen.

I don't think this story proves anything, living 100% on Bitcoin is like trying to write a book without the letter "e" - possible, but very hard and time-consuming. This isn't a proof that mass adoption is happening.

I want to know which country they have crossed. What about the regulations of each country, it will look problematic if they don't have fiat money in a country that doesn't accept crypto as payment. For education about bitcoin, I agree that they are introducing bitcoin indirectly to countries that may not yet accept bitcoin as payment. However, maybe this education will not be effective in developing bitcoin users. Moreover, this is done in remote areas with low education and no internet. But I was amazed to hear that this family is very confident in the future of bitcoin and they are doing the right thing and will definitely make a profit for now.

The experiences of the Taihuttu family are exciting when traveling these countries only living with Bitcoin. Besides being valuable for any economic study carried out on this case.

I also liked the article that pointed out the opinion of the CEO of Galaxy Digital about Bitcoin, it is encouraging and could draw the attention of potential investors.

Quote
Mike Novogratz, CEO of investment firm Galaxy Digital, thinks this comeback rally is only just getting started. He sees bitcoin rising to $ 60,000 by next year.

That is precisely what they are trying to prove, that it is possible to only use your bitcoin and do it with style however while this is very interesting very few people are going to follow on their footsteps but it is an interesting read and another sign that points to the future that we are going to experience in which everything will be paid with bitcoins regardless of where you are and I cannot wait for that to become a reality since the whole idea of exchanging your coins for fiat in order to buy something seems flawed to me

It's interesting to know that there is a family who believes so much in Bitcoin, that family is really promoting Bitcoin in a unique way.
I just found a family that relies on Bitcoin as a living, unfortunately there are still a few countries that legalize Bitcoin as payment.
It looks like this family managed to inspire a lot of people, and also prove Bitcoin can provide wealth.

Wow! 40 countries? They are living their lives a dream. This is giving positive vibes to crypto community, that it is indeed possible to live with bitcoin. Lucky for them who believed in bitcoin when it was relatively cheap and amass some for their stash. If nothing else, this article will be a good inspiration to nonbelievers of crypto.

Wow really touching true story. In this case, this is the real use case of Bitcoin where they only want to pay with BTC. How cool. I wonder how if they faced difficulties when they found no one accepting BTC. This is risky, but they did believe that BTC has value and they know someday BTC will be really high, as what we can see right now. And now, they are smiling at what they believe.

This may inspire companies to promote the use of bitcoins in their prpducts, and may also help them build their profits in bitcoins instead of fiat which will greatly boost thr people's confidence towards cryptocurrencies in general. Though on the downside, this could've caused them a lot of trouble and inconvenience knowing that few establishments and company that offers services are allowing bitcoin payments.

All those waits  being paid now and everything is moving positively on their end, they are now enjoying all the fruits that came from this market.

A very enjoyable experience and a very important role so that they can make this fun thing happen is bought Bitcoin at a low price, it would have been different if they bought it at the highest price in 2017. The way they believe in Bitcoin is very inspiring.
If this article also mentions the 40 countries they have visited, it will be very interesting because it can inspire other travellers who also want to use Bitcoin to be able to visit those countries that accept Bitcoin.

These guys have made a lot of research before doing such things, we need to consider that as well because if you travel to a country where they don't have any access to bitcoin then you will be in trouble. it is nice to support such a journey since it will motivate others to do so and at the same time they can help with the economy of bitcoins to get it more popular to the other people but still studying before investing is a nice thing to do first.

For promotional purposes, this is good. But still I am not witnessing any genuine increase in adoption during the last few years. Usage of Bitcoin, for making payments have gone down. Even those online retailers who used to accept it earlier are no longer doing so (Steem and Stripe are examples). Hopefully, the recent PayPal integration may reverse the situation and make Bitcoin more acceptable globally.

they are still at it huh. the first time I saw this news I thought that they would just give up since they have kids and travelling around the world with that young would be a lot hassle.

Okay I believe it's very cool !
it is cool!
What are your thoughts on this ?
when the news about this broke out I thought they are crazy investing everything they have on something so volatile like bitcoin. even now I still think they are crazy for doing something so reckless. I am glad their gamble ended on a positive side but would not suggest this to anyone I know.
This family is not only exploring their way around the world but they are also educating people about Bitcoins.
and as it should be. to be honest I think every people who are into bitcoin should at least share their knowledge or educate someone(if let to) to help bitcoin to its adoption.

It just shows that living only on Bitcoins nowadays is doable already since there are some establishments who are accepting Bitcoins already.
I think that it is just hard to find any establishments that are accepting crypto right now unless you will ask it.

Its kinda cool for me that I'm thinking of doing it too in the future but not for years but possible for weeks or days only :D. With more and more establishments accepting crypto already, using it would be easier few years from now for sure. I just hope that more and more families/people will try this and spread some awareness globally.

That is an interesting story, he has good discipline, he stood on what he had said and he did it. We can say that guy is very loyal in the world of cryptocurrency because he never used any fiat currency, he only used cryptocurrency and that was a total effort for the guy who visits only two countries just to use their bitcoin and not to use any fiat currency. I never think that I could do the same thing but maybe in the future, if the cryptocurrency will become more popular all over the world.

Can somebody tell me why the capital of Slovenia is the most Bitcoin friendly city in Europe? There must be a reason behind that.
I though that Malta and the Baltic countries(mostly Estonia) are the most crypto friendly countries in Europe.
This is a cool story, however I hate traveling and I hate spending Bitcoins,so I will never follow the example of this Bitcoin pioneer. ;D
BTC is getting more mainstream so more small businesses will begin to accept BTC payments in addition to fiat.I really hope that this trend will survive, even after the BTC price crashes and a bear market begins.

It is indeed very cool. And knowing that they're not just traveling but educating others as well, now that's even more amazing. I think, assuming I didn't know about bitcoin and then I'll meet them and they'll educate me, I'd believe them. Because their experience of traveling with just bitcoin is enough proof for me that bitcoin isn't scam and could be really beneficial.

That's for me though. But I hope those people whom they'll meet can also see what bitcoin can do. Good luck to the family.

This really is a amazing and unique story and we should all be happy for this man and his bitcoin family.
Every day I think to myself if I would have bought bitcoin for $900 a coin in 2017 like the Taihuttus family.
Didi Taihuttu even waited to cut his hair from someone that will take bitcoin.  Need more stories like this 1.

Kudos to Taihuttu family for taking such a bold step in propagating the message of Bitcoin across 40 countries, at the same time spending, transacting with Bitcoin, of course their contribution to spreading of good news about bitcoin and bringing it into more limelight with their voyage is quite remarkable such adventure was taken by a single family who summoned courage and risk to embarked on such a journey is very appreciated, this will increase more adoptions across those countries visited by them.

this is not a cool story anymore, but it's amazing that all the activities they do with Bitcoin are great they have done in 40 countries, that's amazing.

If they go to my country I am willing to accompany them in all the activities they do, otherwise they will starve, very limited public places that accept Bitcoin, certain people do it, kidding, ha.

I once read one of the news about Forbes Kashmir journalist who underwent 7 days of all his transactions including buying coffee etc, with Bitcoin.
it's just that at the end of the story he didn't believe Bitcoin could do it all, after that he just acknowledged and believed Bitcoin was a digital currency that he could rely on.
He did it as a test of Bitcoin, what other people say is true, eh it turns out to be true.

This story can be a good source of information or idea that bitcoin can bring a positive impact in your life.

Bitcoin can give you a lot of opportunity that you can find when you work on your job for so long. This cryptocurrency can make you have a businesses where you can have a stable profit. Bitcoin will not let you down when you believe on it and when you manipulated it properly in the market.

As soon as possible, engage in bitcoin because it is a proven and tested that it can give you or brighten you future even if it is volatile in the market.

This is a once in a million group of people venturing 40 countries and take note using Only Bitcoin ,though maybe they had also use fiat in some way but the majority of their Travel is with bitcoin.

For many of us this will remain as dream and until forever won't become reality.

He got a lucky family that will abide by his craziness and you cannot find many families to follow the same path and it is true that it is a dream for majority of the people. Travelling 40 countries is a dream for anyone and to visit the cultures and different lifestyles is a dream for me as well but you cannot have everything in life without sacrifices and i have visited a couple of countries with the profits i earned from the cryptocurrency market but i made my travel by converting it to fiat.

This is a once in a million group of people venturing 40 countries and take note using Only Bitcoin ,though maybe they had also use fiat in some way but the majority of their Travel is with bitcoin.

For many of us this will remain as dream and until forever won't become reality.
This is only possible if they held lots of bitcoins into their own wallet and its impossible not to say that they havent get any conversion from fiat knowing that
not all countries will really be positive towards bitcoin or does prohibit it but with that 40 countries then its dumb that they would chose to those places which
they cant able to make use of their coins. So they'll stick into those pro-bitcoin places which they can easily make out conversions if they wanted too.
You are right that the achievement of this family do able to attain is somewhat cant be taken by most families out there. This do signify on how they
really support up Bitcoin.

The person could've experienced lots of difficulties finding the right places accepting bitcoin for the required services. His dream needs to come true, maybe within few years of time we can expect atleast a 50% reduction in the difficulty to find a place where bitcoin is accepted in exchange for services. Looking him fiat users might think, what's the using it with such difficulty. He could've got an inner happiness that nothing could provide him. Going through the news myself too feeling an inner happiness thinking of his achievement.

It amazed me in a small village in Italy, they accepted bitcoin for any payment. Even for barber payments, which are rare in any country.
But I don’t know, maybe this is happening in a country that already legalizes bitcoin. Like Japan, for example. But I’ve never heard
such an amazing story before. In fact, it’s from a country that legalizes bitcoin though.
Let alone in a small traditional village that is usually untouched to the internet, this must be difficult to be found in many countries.
In big cities, they sometimes accept bitcoin for investment only.

This is so interesting and fascinating. The problem with BTC is the wide acceptability but these guys have shown that it's possible to totally live off of BTC. But it was up to me I wouldn't spend btc instead I would use them for savings and spend another strong altcoin.

asking the government ? but how can they do that or they only do a research online if the country that they are going to visit is crypto friendly or not because they are going to be in great trouble if ever they just decide to jump from one country to the other without knowing their laws and regulations  . i dont know if the family have invested huge amounts of money because they manage to travel on 40 countries , imagine those expense if airline or ship , the food and other necesities but they invested in btc when its value is still small and they also in good profit now .

I read the article on some site elsewhere and it warmed my heart to the family. Of course, not every store or services accepts Bitcoin and that could be a problem. There's always that need to exchange to fiat to get things going. I must acknowledge that they did take a huge risk selling off all valuables to buy Bitcoin (which is a very big gamble for me) and did have a huge stack of it. Anyone who started off that way would easily trade their hodlings at high and then buy back at low. That way one gets to still keep profit afloat.

He didn't cut his hair because there was nobody to do it for Bitcoin? Ever heard of a hair clipper? It costs like $20 and can run on batteries.

I guess he was trying to experience cutting his hair and paying for it with bitcoin 😏

Or probably the clipper can not be bought using btc, if they can buy other stuff with btc i assume they can also get a clipper with btc except of course this item can not be found in a btc acceptance store,

in any case, am just trilled to see such a btc enthusiastic family who truly live and dedicate their lives to the cause, it is very easy for many people to say they love btc, but am sure it will be most difficult to live it (i.e using only btc to make payment) especially when it is not universally accepted yet. kudos to this family.

Agreed, while this is a great story from the point of view of being a great advertisement for bitcoin and how anything can be done with it, it could be said that the fact the whole family is in sync and agreed to something like this is a miracle in itself, it is not rare for most families today to not talk to each other that much thanks to social media and other electronic means of entertainment, so the fact all the family agreed to travel all around the world using an exotic currency like bitcoin is incredible by itself.

This life could be normal in the next following years. To be honest, what I can see mostly in stores right now are usually accepting digital payments in our country, but in terms of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, it is too hard to make a payment using it. With that, I can say that it is really difficult that these families do really survived years with just using Bitcoin. There are still instances that they converted their BTC for fiat in order to provide for their necessities.

But knowing the duration of the story, they might have stored too many Bitcoins with them to support their living. Going back, a few years from now, we can see QR codes with Bitcoin logos available for us to make these payments.

I don't know why they need to find a person to accept Bitcoin as payment if they can easily exchange it in Fiat using exchange. There is no difference in using Bitcoin and Fiat money , but using fiat will have you more option to use your money and there are countries that also have a hard time in bitcoin and other crypto Currency because of the regulation. So it's not possible for you to only have Bitcoin if you will travel around the world maybe they are just lucky to find many persons that will accept it .

I'm curious how was their life during the great bearish market but they're still up in profit after realizing that they've bought at a lower price in 2017. I envy this guy that he gets to travel to 40 countries together with his family and even used bitcoin as their main currency for survival.
This guy is a real legend and advocate of bitcoin. He applied it with his family and not just used it but he lived with it.

If you mean the bearish market in 2020, then it probably did not hurt them much because the bearish period was relatively short. And it also depends on when they bought their Bitcoins. If they did in 2016 and 2017 it is very likely that they bought relatively cheap to todays prices. Even if they bought at the peaks of 2017 they would have not made such a big loss if you take the average prices of the last three years. So, overall this would probably has not been a big issue for them.

The other one on 2018. We're mostly in bad time by that year and this year was way better than it. They've bought bitcoin early on 2017 and that was before the bull run that came to happen on end of year of 2017.
They haven't sold on bull 2017 IIRC and that's why I'm thinking about it how did they coped up during 2018. But realizing it, they're still up in profit because they've bought under $3k and the price was still 3 digits by that time.
