Hey Guys,
Just curious to see who has held bitcoin on this forum for more than 5 years?
And also, if you've sold it, when did you got in and when did you sold out?

Cheers!

Why is this important to you?

I think many people who have been here for five years or more value their privacy and wouldn't divulge information like that for security purposes too.
Some lunatic could start hunting holders here even if users are supposed to be anonymous.

Because I feel most people has sold out.

Its good to have some understanding of the trading history.

I first purchased BTC in 2012. The during 2012-2013, I received a lot of BTC from various faucets and other give-away sites such as Rugatu, Bittrivia and Bitcointalk signature campaigns. Unfortunately, in 2013 I lost around 60% of my coins when LitecoinGlobal closed down. And again, in 2015 I was facing some financial hardship and I had to sell around 75% of my remaining BTC for $200 per coin.

Then from 2016 to current date, I continue to sell some of my remaining coins.

Now I have around 10% of the coins that I held in 2013.

So from 2016 to date, you have not bought any only selling?

I feel like during the downs, most have sold out. The whales scoped up and took it to new highs and when fomo kicked in, average joes jump back in and the whales dump the coins and the cycle starts again.

People who held onto Bitcoin for more than 5 years are the true believers. Everyone else are only speculating and only get stung by the big players.

Because I feel most people has sold out.

Of course. It's a pretty safe assumption that only a small minority actually held bitcoin throughout the years(and throughout all the price dumps), and there's really nothing we can do about that. The true enthusiasts will stay while the get-rich-quick speculators(or the people who needed the money) will get out eventually.
There is actually no way to know how many people did what, let alone speculate whether they are the minority or the majority. In fact if I had to guess most people who have stuck around for long are already aware of these so called "price dumps" and aren't making rash decisions like the newcomers do. For example someone who has bought bitcoin at $200 5 years ago has never been concerned about price dropping to $3000 because why would they be?!!

The last time I purchased Bitcoin was in 2012 (at that time, the exchange rate was around $10 per coin). Occasionally I received coins through signature campaigns and other avenues, but never purchased any after that date. I regret that I sold most of my coins when the prices were low, but you run out of patience after so many years. Fortunately, I still have some coins remaining in my wallet and I am happy for that.

I am into both options since 2013. I am always there to stack more Satoshis, when the bears come out to play. Buying low, selling high and stacking some profits to hodl long term.  Some of the Bitcoins went into shopping at pump times, some I have given as gifts to newbies, some I have lost due to bad investments (gold for example was one of these in 2014 - shittiest investment I have ever made).

got in: 2012
hoard average price: $6/coin
am i hoarding: yep

when will i fully sell out: never set a date. no time soon. no set min value. .. probably when i become too old to care about bitcoin

losses/learning experiences: only small percentage of hoard
300btc in bad ASIC deal 2013
3btc per exchange that cried "we been hacked" 2014-5

i never put whole hoard into an exchange and these loses are acceptable. yes 300btc loss seems massive now but at the time it was valued at only $2k cost to me. so oh well. lessons learned

Make what you want of these reports
- July 2019: https://coinmetrics.substack.com/p/coin-metrics-state-of-the-network-cf2
- Nov 2019: https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/its-been-five-years-since-21-6-of-bitcoin-has-moved-reaching-an-all-time-high/

I still doubt that many members here would openly admit that they are still holding the bitcoins they bought at few hundred bucks or less which are now worth million/s in USD. There's also a good chance that they already left the forum or became inactive for years.

Of course there's no way, hence why I said it's an assumption. But yea, I misunderstood the question a bit. :P Initially misunderstood it as "people who held bitcoin 5 years ago". Whoops.

Not me obviously. Just got here on 2017 and started accumulating bitcoin on the mid of 2018. So even though I'm here for more than three years already, I don't have much savings yet. But considering that I have already accumulated some bitcoin, I think I'd be holding it for a while. After another two years, I think I'd still be holding some bitcoin and by that time, I can say that I'm one of those people who hold bitcoin for more than 5 years.

Well I have held on to bitcoins for more then  5 years but since I bought some of my sats at high prices and sold at low I am down overall in bitcoin investments.

When i sold my bitcoins I tried to buy some back and got myself in a lots of trouble.  With the fees that I had to pay I lost more money.

I first bought some BTC back in 2017 when it was just around $800 back then I thought that it was already high price for a 1 whole piece of coin,
But I was wrong the price of Bitcoin could get even higher and because of it I took my profit along with some Sats that I gain from faucets and winnings on gambling.
I don't hold BTC for a long time or I couldn't since I would always convert it into Fiat to take profit.

Because I feel most people has sold out.

I think that you are missing an important aspect: quite a big number of people who will answer you here are actively earning Bitcoin (especially from signature campaigns, but also other types of jobs too). Many may not be aware that they are indirectly buying Bitcoin. At least this is my opinion.

This being said, I've sold indeed Bitcoin, but especially in the last 2-3 years I've sold a bit less than I've earned.
And my first satoshi are also about 5 years old. I've bought some in 2015. I wish I would have bought a couple Bitcoin back then, not just sats, but I didn't. I went by the rule "only invest what you afford to lose".

After five years i hope it price can be 50k+. I know btc when it 300$ but today it price 20k. If you sell now after 5 years you will be tell sad story in your friend and family.

I've never held Bitcoin for more than 5 months and I can't imagine hodling Bitcoin for 5 years.
I can't share all the information about how many times I sold my BTC,because I don't think that this is useful for anyone and I actually don't remember lots of transactions, that I've made in the past 5 years.
Why are you asking this question?Do you plan to hodl Bitcoins for 5 years?I wouldn't advise you to do so.
Anything can happen in 5 years and I'm not an optimist about the future of human civilization. :(

I got to know bitcoin in mid-2017 so it hasn't been 5 years, but it seems like a little to those who have held bitcoin for 5 years.
Personally, although I have not known and used bitcoin for 5 years, I have bought and sold bitcoin many times for reasons of need and sold it when the price went up from the price before I owned it.
and the reason I didn't hold it for long is because bitcoin can solve my financial problems and can change my life for the better especially in the economy.

My bitcoin journey started back in 2016, If I remember correctly bitcoin was only worth $400-$500 back in the day and I got lucky on all the things that I am doing and I'm earning good amounts of bitcoin and when the bull run happened back in 2017 that is where I sold almost all of my bitcoins.

So far the longest time that I held onto my bitcoins is for almost 2 years or less I guess. I started accumulating bitcoins after the bullish trend ended in 2018 and recently sold most of my holdings this recent pump of bitcoin.

I have understood the purpose of your question. The majority of investors here cannot hold for more than 5 years because the Crypto market is considered a manipulative market and it is ingrained in everyone's subconscious. I believe so.
I was also an early Bitcoin investor investing in it back in 2014 and unfortunately I bought BTC at around $ 800. After I bought Bitcoin, it dropped more and more and I completely lost faith in it and sold all BTC at $ 325 by the end of 2014. From then on, I lost interest in BTC until five 2017.
It can be concluded that there were a lot of investors in BTC early on but not everyone has the patience and confidence to hold it over a 5 year period. And of course, not many of them are now rich :)

While it's impossible to find out how many people who did that, you can get rough estimation how many bitcoin was held for at least 5 years by open blockchain explorer (such as Blockchair) and filter for any UTXO with age older than 5 years.
True. Though the rough estimation would probably a little bit too "rough" and inaccurate for us to end up with data that's decently meaningful. It's pretty could potentially be as inaccurate as saying that funds from a certain wallet address is "lost" just because the funds didn't move for years.

As for the members of the forum, there are not too many who have been active for more than 5 years, but as can be seen from some answers, some have kept part of their coins for more than 5 years. Yet here we are talking about a period when Bitcoin was still quite cheap compared to today (the price was measured in a few hundred $), and few believed that a value like today is possible.

I personally have some coins that I earned as a beginner through faucets or through signature campaigns, but unfortunately I did not keep everything I bought during 2014 and 2015 - I consider it a good lesson for the future. I also hope that the time will come when it will not be necessary to convert BTC into fiat in order to spend it in the usual places such as shopping malls, cafes, restaurants.

Thanks for your reply and everyone for their inputs.

Unfortunately, to a certain extend I believe BTC is being manipulated at every bull and bear cycles. Like you mentioned, not many active members with more than 5 years on the forum. Thats just showing most bought BTC at some stage(joined the forum) and likely sold out when it went down and never returned. Those who sold when it was high, probably would still stick around the forum since the likelihood of them getting back in at the low kept them on interested and stuck around on the forum.

Anyway, the ones that has held on more than 5 years, or even 3 years are true believers. Hats off to you guys, shows character more than financial gains. Well Done.

Misconceptions I think many people are having is that holding is the only thing to do once you've invested into something. But that's absolutely wrong. The market price is not continuously and consistently increasing over time. Market analysis is needed in order for an investor or user to make decisions whether to invest or sell at a certain point because that would generate income not holding alone. Profit from holding for years won't be as big as profit from selling at certain price points, "bullish market" times to be specific. The will be losses to some cryptos because not all cryptos are having price increase especially the small ones in this industry.

There is a lot of people here in the forum who held bitcoin more than 5 years and most of them for sure already sold it and they got a lot of profit. Maybe the bitcoin they have got from the trading, investing and the others campaign  but it is not important where they did get bitcoin as long as you get your bitcoin in a good way not like the others they have bitcoin because they scamming people which is really bad.

Five years ago bitcoin was only 500$ and those who held bitcoin that time until now probably had big profits if they want or try to sell their holdings. Anyway, for the newcomers still holding bitcoin is  possible to get big profits in the next 5 years. For we know that bitcoin has slowly been adapted by the community believing its worth and even trusted that bitcoin independency cannot be ruled by any third party services except in the use of centralized exchange. Well, we will be hoping for those DEX  to also get a good chance in balancing the centralized exchanges.

I still have a full coin from 2015 (that makes it five years!) I remember betting with a friend about that! I should have bought and held 10 full coins not only one from 2015! I was already very skilled in terms of how to use btc but I didn't go the extra mile. Still, I feel good today knowing I was able to extend and preserve my wealth and hopefully that of my kids.

I've been into the Bitcoin world since 2017 just 3 years and didn't meet your qualification of 5 years.  However, during those years a lot of things happened the ups and downs of Bitcoin and to my personal necessities as well which required me to sell most of the Bitcoins that I have gained.

I have bought Bitcoin once too for I know that how Bitcoin can help me when I'm in need, due to these reasons I would say that I buy and sell Bitcoin not at the appropriate time because of its price instead I did and will still continue to do it when I needed most.

Very few people will be able to hold Bitcoin for more than 5 years because if Bitcoin increases, people will sell it to make a profit instead of holding it for so long.
I'm a part of it.

But there's no assurance that the market price will continue increasing in the future, so doing so won't benefit you, just my two cents.
But that depends on your goal as an investor. If you are just aiming to experience having an amount of it, then holding for a longer period of time would be fine. But if you are into profit, I won't suggest holding for that long, because there's still a possibility for its market value to depreciate. Thus, it would be better to analyze the market, perhaps in this case.

You can safely assume that on this forum account's age is roughly equal to the time of hodling Bitcoin, providing that an account is still active. Think about it, if someone registered on Bitcoin forum, that's because they are interested in Bitcoin, and if you are interested in Bitcoin, you have to own it, there's no other way to interact with it. And if someone is active to this day, that's because they still own Bitcoin, because why else would they be on this forum?

Of course there can always be exceptions, most notably people who only own altcoins, but still it's a good approximation. So, if you're looking for big data, search for this forum's account age stats.

You wont really be getting solid feedbacks or information on what you do seek for because you do talk about those people who had been holding since 2015.

We cant be sure if the people who had responded into this thread are valid or solid holders or just trying to pretend that they had held but actually they had already sell off.

Why it is important for you to know? When it comes to holding then this do involved lots of patience basing of on all the volatility that we have seen
into this market then fighting that kind of emotion wont really be that simple.

firmly believe that no one has held bitcoin for that long even though we know that bitcoin is a long-term investment. because bitcoin changes occur every 4 years and at that time everyone is competing to sell because the price is usually high.
it is clear from the many that there are still saving but not because they want to invest but because of negligence so that they miss high prices.

I think they are the beginning of the start of bitcoin, currently the price of bitcoin is very low even considered junk, maybe they are the one who lasted for 5 years holding btc. at that time, bitcoin was so easy to obtain, even the faucet alone reached .1 BTC. per his claim. I think those who are in  bitcointalk forum this is a community of campaigns as well as developers of very difficult projects for those who withhold bitcoin from 5 years in the past.

May be that is true. But I am someone who regret the fact that I sold most of my coins when the prices were low. In theory, it is always profitable to sell at spikes and buy at dips. But in reality this is never practical, as we never know what will be the peak price and when the coin will bottom out. Anyway, I have learnt my lesson and I am keeping most of my remaining coins for the long term.

People who held bitcoin will sell their bitcoin, especially if they really need money for their needs. If the price was low, and we are in urgent thing, we will sell it right away, but we will repurchase it after we have another money and see the price is at a low price. We will try to buy more bitcoin or earn more bitcoin in many ways.

I feel it is better to make more bitcoin, but we can also sell some bitcoin to fill our needs to help us make money in the future. Don't forget that not many people will invest their money in bitcoin while they will sell their bitcoin if they need money.

My first engagement with Bitcoin is way back in 2016 where the price is only about $600-$700 and unfortunately, I wasn't able to hold for a long time due to the reason of no one exactly knows that Bitcoin will grow this much and also because I have financial crisis back then so I had no choice. Only if I have known that Bitcoin will be this much, perhaps I just hold it in my wallet and I am pretty sure that most of us are thinking the same way. However, it's never been too late you and I can now accumulate Bitcoin and Hold as much as you can, at least we are now certain that Bitcoin has the potential to grow even more as mass adoption occur.

I held Bitcoin since 2015 and around 2017 I sold almost all of them and left just a few, something less than 10% of what I had. I left it there till the price went down and I came back and invested again on top that small amount when price was low.

So, I guess that qualifies for the five years? I didn’t want to take so much risk when I saw that the price has been going up too much and I felt a lot of people are going to sell their coins, so I decided to sell a huge percentage of what’s in my bag. I even twice; in 2018 around $8,000 price per unit, and then this 2020 around $6,000 price per unit, I guess I got in a bit late, but I’ve been able to cover up. People tried to put fear in me when they were saying price won’t go further and that it will drop to $1,500.

Because I feel most people has sold out.
Well, you are right. Maybe from the 100% people who have bought 5 years ago. Around 95% has sold maybe 50%-90% of their holdings. Except the Winklevoss twins and other known strategies and bitcoin investors, they've held a lot and also took some solid profits during the heights.
I've sold some just a few months ago and would continually do it but wouldn't put on my sale more than 10% of my asset.

Thanks for your reply and everyone for their inputs.

You're welcome ;)

Unfortunately, to a certain extend I believe BTC is being manipulated at every bull and bear cycles.

We might call it manipulation, but some would say that it is just a natural process of something that is still relatively new and many investors are not yet quite sure how to proceed at certain times. Different phases of growth and correction have had different catalysts, and we are currently in a phase marked by large funds like Grayscale or private companies like MicroStrategy or PayPal. At this point, it’s hard to say if they have long-term plans (which seems logical), or if we’ll have a brutal correction again after the next bull run.

Anyway, the ones that has held on more than 5 years, or even 3 years are true believers. Hats off to you guys, shows character more than financial gains. Well Done.

What would you tell about those who have been holding since 2009/10 - and believe me, there are such believers ;)

Well you can't know people who held their bitcoin for that long or maybe they just forgot that they have bitcoin in their wallet  open it, i started bitcoin when i was high school i think it was 2013 and it was my really good investment where i supported my self to graduate in high school until i graduated college i also have small business now that came from bitcoin this is reason why i keep solding half of my bitcoin and if i keep that bitcoin for that long maybe i am not who i am today.

I’ve held for over 5 years & continued buying over the whole time too. Despite a couple of bad bear markets bitcoin travels upwards in price over a sustained period. Fiat currencies are losing value over time & bitcoin is clearly gaining in value.

What do you mean by "sold out"? if you mean selling all of your Bitcoins, then I guess no one will sell all of his Bitcoin in one go to make more profits, unless he really needs the money.

I am holding my Bitcoin and Altcoins for about 3 years already since the last bull run. I've just sold few of it to sustain my everyday needs and to pay my bills. Selling it all out means you just killed the chance of making profits in the long run. So if you'll hold, you must also know how to take advantage on that.

It's clear that we both have two completely different approaches because I do not wish to sell anything and, actually, I am accumulating as much as I can and I am glad I was able to get a nice buy during the super drop which occurred in March 2020 after the covid-19 outbreak. I trust bitcoin will continue to progress both on the development and adoption level, hence I have no incentives to sell anytime soon.

I still doubt that many members here would openly admit that they are still holding the bitcoins they bought at few hundred bucks or less which are now worth million/s in USD. There's also a good chance that they already left the forum or became inactive for years.

Or there is another variant - lots of people who bought Bitcoin at the very beginning, just lost their keys to wallets or their computers because of different reasons, and they can be named still like holders, but their assets are locked for them. Completely agree that too few people will answer such questions -  how many? When bought? And when and what the amount sold? - rich people prefer privacy about their finances. Assets like to be counted and silence.

I believe that person who bought bitcoin 5 years ago had already sold their bitcoin  back in 2017 when they Kept the Holding for 2 years and that should be a Multiple value from the time of Buying so who would still Hold when you have already gain too much amount?and even if you wanted to hold for long yet you will take the advantage of selling first then Buy again in cheaper price because that year bitcoin has been proven to go upside down so practicality wise to sell High then Buy Low.

and also you are correct that those wallets that still holds bitcoins for that long might have been a dead wallet meaning keys cannot be found anymore.

Of course the old holders still have some of it because the price per unit can be reached by the middle economic class. With the current price for 1 bitcoin compared to 5 years ago, spending it by degrees will certainly meet their needs. Unlike nowadays, its impossible to buy just 1 bitcoin and expect the price to increase by 100x in the next 5 years.

Firstly, the OP is asking a private question which cryptocurrency holders are advised not to provide in other for them not to be attacker target, that aside you can't speak for every Bitcoin holder, and the last time I checked people like Anthony Pompliano will keep their holding. Mind you, those that sold all their holding in the year 2016 ATH have already blame themselves and the best thing to do in every ATH market is to sell 50% of ones holding because anything can happen now the crypto market is going mainstream.

I held bitcoin for 10 years in this years. When i sold my bitcoin? I will sell my coin when i need money, so far i never sell btc except altcoin. But now i keep my coin in blockchain.com , but sure i have to check their rules everytime.

Keeping bitcoin for ten years is not easy for me guys, I move my coin from core wallet to another wallet because my i dont enough disk space and good connection to keep sync. I always move my wallet from wallet provider, from exchange wallet, paper wallet, hardware and etc. But now i keep my coin in blockchain.com , but sure i have to check their rules 4 month. I almost got stuck and can not login to my account when they upgrade their platform several years ago, so that's why i have to check them every 4 month

I think i got mental sickness, fear of loss my bitcoin. Although i kept my coin in blockchain.com i make several backup key, google 2fa, email, passwor, etc in hundred papers in my house. this is really annoying mental

Most of the holders who holds this kind of timespan are the big whales or we say the big investors or companies. But with regards to solo investors who accumulate not that much amount of bitcoin, I guess there are very few who holds this long like 5 years or more not only if they forgot that they have bitcoin in their wallet.

In my case, I am not a very term holder because I only hold if I think there are chances that the market will recover and once I can reach my target selling price then I will dispose my bitcoin right away and wait for the right time again to buy it back in a lower price.

Such kind of people who have held Bitcoin for 5 years or more are really fantastic individuals for they have made up a right choice considering Bitcoin upon first purchase way back 5 years ago is still not that expensive compared to what it is right now that the price is rising over time. Many of those individuals are surely pleasantly happy that upon holding Bitcoin for 5 or more years, they have unexpected that from the price they have bought Bitcoin can give them a big profit when Bitcoin rises on the year 2017 coming from 3 digits on the first quarter going to 4-5 digits on the same year and up until now. Surely those are the patient ones and have truly believe of Bitcoin's capacity to rise up its price making them profitable about it.

Unfortunately, not me. There may be many who keep bitcoins that long, and it is amazing for them.
I kept Bitcoin not that long. Only when before ATH in 2017, I bought about $500 for bitcoin and already took advantage of ATH in 2017.
I guess by then many were already selling it too. And enjoy the profits.
Now I collect Bitcoin from faucets and other campaigns although not much, and from savings as well, but it is not up to 5 years.

I started mining in 2011 and have held for almost 10 years. At the time, it was about supporting the network, not making money. Unfortunately for me, I sold a good majority on Mt. Gox in 2013 when it hit $1k. This was primarily because when I started it wasn't even worth $1 and I never imagined it would have the value it has today. I was earning 0.05 BTC/day CPU/GPU mining with a single desktop up until the first halving in November 2012. After that, it started taking about 3 months to earn the same payout with the same gear but I stopped in 2013 after killing multiple PSUs and getting sick of replacing them.

What I didn't sell was primarily only held because Slushpool had a minimum payout of 0.5 or 1 BTC at the time. Surprisingly, they never touched it despite me not logging in or mining for 4 years until ATH in 2017. Their terms allowed them to take my coins but they didn't. This is a reason why I still mine with them now and I am only still mining because of investing the dust that was left.

I sold again in 2017 and 2020 when it was $19k and bought again at various prices including $3k between December 2018-March 2019, $4k in March 2020, and my entire stimulus check in April 2020 at $6k.

Why is this important to you?

I think many people who have been here for five years or more value their privacy and wouldn't divulge information like that for security purposes too.
Some lunatic could start hunting holders here even if users are supposed to be anonymous.

He is just asking an easy question and not asking for a person's information, so I think he is just curious about bitcoin's existence and advantages before up to now.

I owned bitcoin for almost 3 years and it is a good run for me as I make it grow and earn profits from it based on my manipulation. I practiced trading, I sold effectively, and having a good memories and experiences with bitcoin will help you to grow more as an investor.

Always cheer up and keep your heads up if you feel like you're losing a huge amount because bitcoin is volatile and it is what it is.

Although I don't hold bitcoin for more than 5 years, I still held some bitcoin and this time, I think I will wait until the price can break $20k, and if the price can reach $25k-$35k, I will sell my bitcoin and enjoy the money. But I will not use all of the money for my life because I want to buy bitcoin again, especially if the price can drop too deep. I've sold my bitcoin because I need the money and that means for me. Everytime I need money, and I will sell some bitcoin.

And today these are not the same people who participate in subscription campaigns. Therefore, I doubt that they will simply read such topics. I really like to read the message histories of accounts with early registration date. And yes, I meet people who bought bitcoin or participated in giveaways back in 2013. And since then, their bitcoins, which were not numerous at that time, have grown. But they still remain loyal holders.

So why find out the privacy of other people, I better focus on the Bitcoin that I have. I want to share a little about my first
experience of collecting Bitcoin from various faucets, from 2015 to 2017 I managed to collect 0.1 BTC. Then in 2017 I tried
trading and gambling. Finally, my total Bitcoin reached 0.7 BTC and I sold all of them when the Bitcoin hit a price of $ 15,000.

I haven't come across a lot many people, who have held their assets for more than three years. Extremely long term investments (>5 years) is common only in real estate and bullion sectors. In most of the other sectors, the average duration of the investment is less than 3 years. Even among the earliest Bitcoin users, only a small minority has held on to their coins from the pre-2013 period.

HODLing Bitcoin for 5 years is already profitable when you are earning them slowly. Stacking up and investing on Bitcoin before resulted in a profitable outcome because of the rise in Bitcoin's value. I only learned Bitcoin within the last 5 years and I wasn't enthusiastic enough to learn it before and that is why I'm utilizing my time to learn everything I can within the Cryptocurrency Industry.

I feel like during the downs, most have sold out. The whales scoped up and took it to new highs and when fomo kicked in, average joes jump back in and the whales dump the coins and the cycle starts again.
This may be true who knows as if whales will admit this manipulation,But indeed that people will Sell their Bitcoin knowing that in 2017 the price multiplied and everyone who Holds bitcoin for at least 1 whole year are the one who take the opportunity to Say "That Was a real Bull run" so they might replaced their coin in more cheaper because after months the value drops half or more so Buying again may double.triple or even quadruple your holdings.

People who held onto Bitcoin for more than 5 years are the true believers. Everyone else are only speculating and only get stung by the big players.

Like that the account you Quoted, admittingly That in any instance you may release your coins either intentional or not yet it will Gone partly in our hands.

I was so frustrated by watching the chart yet didn't lose my heart, I didn't sell my coins in frenzy rather I keep my they spare in my wallet for over 2 years. I am simply waiting for the cost to reach $20,000 so I can sell them and get back my all cashback.

Oh, it is too hard to wait for pump right, it's been 3years since we see the ATH, I hope it will go 20k this next year again, I doubt that we will get that value this month so we are around 18k this day right? I think this is the right time to buy bitcoin and hold it for next month, buy some alts as well since it is now in dip .

Yes, it is the case. Yet the best scenario would be buying it not in 2016, but even earlier, but yes - from 2016 to ATH, and then buying again this year, is still decent ROI. And no, its not impossible actually if you don't simply trade, or HODL forever, but rather analyze markets, trends, hypes, news (including fake ones - what has been pushed to masses), mining activity, etc., etc. Over time it gets natural without too much efforts.

For beginners it must be very difficult to make a choice. But if you have experience in this case it will definitely feel easy. Of course you have a lot to learn if you want to predict the price of bitcoin correctly. But also must be prepared for the risks.

Yes, you are absolutely right. It must have been hard to continue keeping when it hit $10k, then $15k, and then selling at almost 20k, but experienced people in investments know well about human biases, and mass market biases, as well as correlations and connections between various factors which might seam independent. So once someone master those, it's not too hard in the end. There are way harder things than that.

I entered Bitcoin in 2013 by mining. I was doing mining with my PC and I had earned through faucets too. At the time, faucets paid an amount of bitcoins which is today, worth around hundreds of dollars. I kind of abbandoned Bitcoin in 2014 and sold most of my BTC. I re-entered the crypto world in 2016 and couldn't recover my coins. I am now a web dev and I do pay per job stuff. I accept Bitcoin as a method of payment and prefer it over all other payment methods.

about others in this forum I don't know anyone personally who hold bitcoin for more than 5 years. but I am sure there would be a lot of bitcoiners holding for long time. including all the forum staffs and admins. and core devs. and all the old miners.

Hey Guys,
Just curious to see who has held bitcoin on this forum for more than 5 years?
And also, if you've sold it, when did you got in and when did you sold out?

Cheers!

There is two type holder in crypto currency some people hold for short time and increase Their asset by trading. Some people are long time holders they always Control emotional and think positive and never sell on panic time. Only a few people can do this and i think they cannot  expose  her self on public and it can be risky also

I am definitely not one of them who held Bitcoin for iver five years but I did earn Bitcoin when it was roughly between $300 to $400 I believe and then I had to sell those when the value of Bitcoin reached $1000 and again I earned more bitcoin's through signature campaigns before the 2017 bullrun which I sold during the peak. I wish I would have held some bitcoin's when it was $300 to $400, but those who have stored heir Bitcoin from last 5 years have lot of patience and they would be really rich by now.

I once read one of the threads on this forum that he has been holding bitcoin for a long time and even when bitcoin hit the moon in 2017 he didn't sell it, too bad I forgot who he was. Anyway, those who have been consistent in holding on to bitcoin so far are something great and I really appreciate it, because to hold on for the long term is very difficult and not something easy. Well, in life we don't know when we will experience any disaster or problem that will require large and fast funds, and when they still prioritize their investment then they are the real holders and / or investors.

I know someone who still holds his bitcoin for more than 5 years.

He is currently out of the country and is unable to sell because he migrated to the US which has some restrictions in using bitcoin. I was told that if he withdraws his funds it will be known and it is against the regulation. For now, he does not have any plans yet, the only thing he said is he will decide once he goes back to our country again.

I don't understand what your topic means? Very few people will be able to hold Bitcoin for more than 5 years because if Bitcoin increases, people will sell it to make a profit instead of holding it for so long.

You're wrong.

Many people held for much longer because they're not after a small profit. You probably don't have a lot of money so it's hard for you to understand but people who make 100 thousand USD a year are not so crazy about selling their coins every time they go up 10%. They're more interested in the safety that cold storage gives them.

I don't have a lot of money but held my bitcoins for 4 years and did not sell them when we touched 20 thousand this year.

it looks like someone has held bitcoin for more than 5 years. but there are also those who sell bitcoin after knowing the price of bitcoin has increased. so it is not easy to speculate who and why is holding or selling
